How did you use media

technologies in the construction

and research, planning and

evaluation stages?

Social Media

Staying in contact was important in the planning process as it was through email and social network sites that I could get in touch with my actors and actresses.

Forward planning

To ensure my talent were made completely aware of the filming dates I planned ahead and let them know about filming weeks in advance, this allowed me to ensure that they were going to be free as well as myself.

More forward planning.

To ensure that everybody on set was all on the same tracks I made a filming schedule which I attached to emails making them aware of who was needed when.

Blogger

Using Blogger to demonstrate my work has become a great feature, as it is easy to access and great to receive other peoples feedback over a online poll. My online poll allowed members of the

public to help my development and

research of the Indie Genre.

If Yes, which is your favourite song by The 1975?

What do these results prove?

• The majority of people who use internet surveys are aged 16-23. This proves that in order to capture the eyes of my target audience I will have to ensure that my video is on the internet.

What do these results prove?

• To re-enforce my previous slide the results of the next question prove that the majority of people watch their videos online.

What do these results prove?

• The reason I chose the song chocolate was not only for its strong beat, but also because in my survey it was the most popular of the songs.

Flipagram

Flipagram is an App I could access on my IPhone, using flipagram allowed me to display my ideas in a new and interesting way whilst researching into the 1950’s time period.

YouTube

Using YouTube to share my video’s allowed me not only to place them on my blog but to also to allow others to see them and comment or like/dislike them. This was an easy way to achieve a variety of audience feedback.

To create a vintage look

• To create a vintage look I researched existing 1940’s and 50’s movies (as there where no music videos of that time). I observed and took notes on the camera angles used and this really allowed me to get an insight into what audiences of that time wanted to see.

Some clips I liked

• I found three movies on youtube which I absolutely loved and really wanted to incorporate into my music video. Therefore I planned to use my actors/actresses as silhouettes against the movie screen as if they are watching the movies.

• Citizen Kane• Rebecca• Notorious (kiss scene)

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane is a 1941 American drama film directed, co-written, produced by, and starring Orson Welles. The picture was Welles' first feature film. The film was nominated for Academy Awards in nine categories; it won an Academy Award for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) by Herman Mankiewicz and Welles. Considered by many critics, filmmakers and fans to be the greatest film ever made, Citizen Kane was voted the greatest film of all time in five consecutive Sight & Sound's polls of critics, until it was displaced by Vertigo in the 2012 poll. It topped the American Film Institute's 100 Years ... 100 Movies list in 1998, as well as the AFI's 2007 update. Citizen Kane is particularly praised for its cinematography, music, and narrative structure, which were innovative for its time.

Rebecca

Rebecca is a 1940 American psychological drama-thriller film. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, it was his first American project, and his first film produced under contract with David O. Selznick. The film's screenplay was a version by Joan Harrison and Robert E. Sherwood based on Philip MacDonald and Michael Hogan's adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's 1938 novel of the same name. The film was produced by Selznick and stars Laurence Olivier as the brooding aristocratic widower Maxim de Winter, Joan Fontaine as the young woman who becomes his second wife, and Judith Anderson as the stern housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers.

Notorious

Notorious is a 1946 American spy thriller film directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains as three people whose lives become intimately entangled during an espionage operation. It was shot in late 1945 and early 1946, and was released by RKO in August 1946.

Photoshop

I used photo shop to create my complete ancillary text portfolio. I chose Photoshop as it is a professional program with great tools that allowed me to layer and perfect.

I used Photoshop to create this look…

My complete ancillary text (Digipak)

Microsoft PowerPointNot only to create this PowerPoint but also to plan and prepare my music video. I found it a very helpful tool to create my plans and lay them out effectively. It really helped me visualise things.

SlideShare

I then used slide share to share my PowerPoints online so they would be more condensed on the post on my blog. This also helped me to present it.

Microsoft WordThis was mostly used to create tables of schedules that would be easier to attach to a email which I would then send to my talent.

Prezi

I used Prezi to display my presentations in a more creative form. This makes presentations, such as my health and safety presentation a lot more interesting.

Web 2.0

I used google chrome for the research elements of my music video pre production.Although the internet (web 2.0) is extremely helpful, it can also be difficult to search and sift through the information that is factual, reliable and accurate. This is one of the main reasons why I conducted my own online poll as apposed to using results off the internet.

Computers

All of my pre and post production work was completed on a computer, this is because it allows me freedom of design with a professional finish.I prefer to type my work so that I am more aware of any spelling mistakes I may have made or any errors that need to be corrected. It is also easier to plan my work with order and carry it around with me on a memory stick.

Filming

I used a Sony HandyCam to film my entire music video. I found it simple to use and extremely portable which was essential when carrying it round to a variety of locations. It was helpful that the same memory card could be used for my video camera and my photo camera.I also used a tripod to keep my camera still and stable, this allowed me to avoid any shaky shots.

Editing software

Apple Mac

Final cut pro

Final Cut Pro

I decided to use final cut pro as my chosen editing software, this is because I found it simpler to use. One of my weaknesses is editing and using computer programming therefore I allowed myself more time to complete this section of my task.

StructureWhilst editing my music video I had my storyboard by the side of me to give me some structure. Although this was helpful, I didn’t stick to my storyboard exactly as some shots were harder to film than others.Final Cut Pro made my music video easy to lay out. By simply moving a shot from one point to another on the timeline I could create my desired narrative.

Layers/ Filters

To add aspects of the Indie genre to my music video I used layers and textures in my music video. For example;

Black and White.I used black and white to flatter the image and to create a mysterious look. I also find that many music video’s can be quite boring if they are just all in colour, therefore by adding a few smaller sections in black and white it breaks the narrative and keeps the audience intrigued.

Layers/ Filters

To add aspects of the Indie genre to my music video I used layers and textures in my music video. For example;

Shot over shot blurring. On many occasions I layered one shot on top of the other perhaps a little bit slower or quicker than the first to create a distorted effect.

Layers/ Filters

To add aspects of the Indie genre to my music video I used layers and textures in my music video. For example;

“Fairy dust” effect.I like to call this one the fairy dust effect as (although it is extremely hard to see in this image) it shows little pigments of light floating across the screen. I like this effect as I feel it brings a sort of female innocence into my music video. Although subtle I find it very effective.
