The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program at UB puts you on track for an exciting career in one of the most rapidly expanding areas of health care. You will learn to perform a wide range of laboratory procedures, including determining the chemical content of blood and fluids, matching blood for transfusions, and analyzing specimen results. Valuable hands-on experiences in clinical rotations will help sharpen your technical and evaluation skills, which will eventually contribute to a diagnosis and treatment recommendation.
If you wish to pursue advanced studies, a Medical Laboratory Science degree will offer you opportunities in biomedical research graduate programs, physician assistant programs, or medical school. Career choices are wide-ranging, including employment in hospitals, reference labs, public health, forensics, industrial laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and fertility centers.

While studying Medical Laboratory Science, you will obtain extensive knowledge of laboratory practices, methods, and instruments. Your classroom learning will be enhanced by 600+ hours of hands-on experience in clinical rotations. The Medical Laboratory Science program requires students to complete a total of 128 credit hours prior to graduation, 53 of which will be in your program core.
