1 MA’ 1971 VOLUME 3 NO. 2 OFFICIALPUBLICATIONOF THEMEDICALSOCIETY, H.K.U.S.U. 15THFEBRUARY1971 EDITORIAL Thenewmedic sweater thatwasout recently has seemingly inedgeneral acclamation. Before this, medical students were merely marked by - besides thebooks intheirhands . themedic tieandblazer. Andnow it seems thatthere is suddenly a new population of medical students walking about in theirbrandnew navyblue sweaters. These people constituted partof the”out” crowdof the first andsecond yearmedics whohavesofarbeendenied of theprivilege ofwearing a medic tie, letalone buying one. Thefactis: although there isnohard-and-fast regulation whatsoever governing theexhibition ofthis article, members of theMedical Society whoarenot throu yetwiththe1st MB examination are justrefrained from doing so by a tradition that hasbeenhanded-down forallthese years. Perhaps onemayargue thatthemedic tiehasbecome some formofa reward forthe1stMBcandidates. Butthat just started one remembering thecute littlewhite pig one got inthe good old kindergarden dayswhenoneshould present a clean epidermis. The point is: the medic tie, with its present status, stigmatised a barrier between seniors and juniors among members members oftheMedical Society —- confe!ring a sense of inferiority arid insecurity tothelatter. While fraternising thefreshmen (aswe always do everyear whenanewacademic yearstarts), with barrier andthe stigmata of it, must beabolished.. - Thesweater is a good start. Let’s with thetie. seewhatwill happen MEDIC-ARTS-SOCIAL BARNDANCE TheMedicbarndancewasheldin the evening of 15th Jan., 1971at ourMedicCanteen. Over40 ladies anda few gentlemen fromtheFaculties of ArtsandSocial Sciences honoured theoccasion by their presence. Thiswas thefirstime thatOur ja hands wereextended to theSocial Sciences fellow undergiads. Thefunction waswell supported by more •thana hundred students fromthevarious classes. Many were onlytooreluctant to go when the gathering ended by midnight. midnight. Seudae: Decrease in the population of theMedical library Witfl a corresponding increase intheUnion Library. WHERECANALL THE MOBILESGO? While thetrafficcondition in HongKong isdeteriorating day bm day, theMedical students havealsostarted appreciating its maunancy lately. Withthe car-park infrontoftheCanteen gone, mecar-owners already felt the inadequacy of parking Spaces; andarsareseen scattered all along Sassoon Road. And as from Jan., 5,cars ofmedical students are prohibited to park 111 Queen MaryHospital Compound untilfurther notice. So redy, where canallthemobiles go? PROFESSOR FREQUENTER-OF-LIBRARY Miny a time, prof.Roberts canbeseen sitting in the 7, wellabsorbed inhisbooks. Heisthe professor I come m often in the library. Those whohave attended his I must admit that they are concise, fullof concepts and : Hisefforto prevent cerebral indigestion among I to be complimented andIthinkhis presence in ‘helps to make the place less noisy too. AS THEY SEE US EXCELLENT TEACHING FACILITIES Ontheirarrival they were agreeably surprised to find the place cleaner than expected expected and everything very well organised. Most impressive wasthe“excellent teaching facilities”, especially at the outpatients’ department. As yet, language posed no problem, problem, and patients werenot uncooperative. In addition, everyone around the wards weremost helpful. They suspect suspect thhis hqpy state f affairs probai...xistsonly forthem. Their Medical Society backhomedoesmuchabout thesame things most medical societies do. Among other things like running a cheap bookstore, producing a newspaper, newspaper, printing notes, sponsoring sponsoring a variety of sports, and taking careof all political political manoeuvers, the Society occupies two seats in the Faculty Board thus directly participating in criticising theircourses, andalso organises organises medical conventions. STUDIOUS, CONSCIENTIOUS STUDENTS Whenaskedwhat they thought ofthestudents’ attitude, attitude, they were of the opinion thatlocal students, atleast those they havecome across inthehostels, are very studious, veryconscientious, butsomewhat disinterested in extracurricular things. They believe that thiscondition couldbedueto the importance importance of the degree to students in HongKong, so muchsothat nothing would bedone to jeopardise itsrealisation. realisation. LAfENTE STUENTSTAFF STUENTSTAFF R ATjHIP - Astothestudent-staff relationship, relationship, they foundthis being kept attoo professional a level, resulting inalamentable lamentable lackof dialogue between thetwo. What they most deplore deplore is the way in which students are openly criticised infront ofthe patients. They havesofarnever encountered such treatment abroad. They suggested thatamore acceptable acceptable method of setting right errors could consist of simply informing or demonstrating to thestudents thecorrect way how things should be done. Their tight schedule has notallowed them manyoppo opportunities to taketimeout to seethe city. They have come without preformed ideas. However, they would liketo havea lookat the unique resettlement areas before leaving for home. They would recommend more students to come to Hong Kong fortheir electives, but thatthe necessity to fmance the whole enterprise from theirown pockets couldserio seriously detera greatmany from coming. Theyhope that closer cooperation between themedical societies ofboth universitives, some sponsors and spare beds inthehomes of local students would help ease thesituation. Their Specialty Clerkship ends by theendof February. Let us wishthem every success. EXCHNtiEPUBL1ATION INTHELIBRARY NOW In reviewin...that jn the past, therewasaconfusion in the exchange of publications, it was passed in thefirstCouncil Meeting of theMedical Society thatthe ExternalAffairs Secretary will takecareof all the exchanged publications with other Universitiesor organisations. In orderto facilitate the reading ofthese exchanged publications, it was arranged with the Librarian to provide a corner in the library wherethe above mentioned publication could be placed. MissJ.

以去旅遊。心中不禁大樂,遊地方是我般大的愛好;

交叉於一點;

只在心靈深處,;

是痛苦與痛苦的起點;
