Hippocrates was also the first physician that held the belief that thoughts, ideas, and feelings come from the brain and not the heart as others of him time believed.

Hippocrates traveled throughout Greece practicing his medicine until he found a medical school in the city he was born in which is Cos , Greece

He began teaching until He soon developed an Oath of Medical Ethics for physicians to follow

Today most physicians that want to become doctors must take the Hippocratic oath as it is in their medical practice

He died in 377 BC and today he is known as the “Father Of Medicine”

The earliest Greeks thought that illness was punishments sent from the gods.

They did not know about the natural causes of diseases and healing until Hippocrates bought that scientific way of thinking

Today people who become doctors take the Hippocratic oath , they promise to be honest, preserve life and to keep all information between them and patients private.

It is said that the Caduceus is the “magic wand” that Hermes (messenger of the gods) carried around but in the Bible it states that the Israelites complained about the fact that they were living through harsh conditions in a desert in Egypt so the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many Israelites were bitten and died. They told Moses that they had sinned against him and the Lord and that Moses must please pray to God to take away the poisonous snakes. The Lord then told Moses to make a bronze snake and put it on a pole, so that anyone who was bitten could look at it and be healed. This is stated in Numbers 21:4-9

Hippocrates invented the Hippocratic oath and the clinical observation. He bought a new way of thinking into the lives of many people. For example : many ancient Greeks thought that illness was punishments sent from the gods. Patients believed that the gods cured them during the night, while the truth was that the doctors drugged the patient into sleeping to cure them.

The world would be a disaster. We wouldn’t be able to have a proper modern society without the Greek contribution of medicine to our world.

Many more people than there are now will be dying all over the world because there wont be doctors who have the knowledge of medicine or healing to be able to cure the peoples illnesses.
