_Installation Overview_
I. Objective:
Installation of Open Office Database as a front-end to MEDILIG-MySQL database
II. Prerequisites/Tested with:
1. Install MySQL .\MEDILIG\DB_MYSQL\MEDILIG MYSQL – INSTALLATION.pdf
2. Restore MEDILIG DATABASE .\MEDILIG\DB_MYSQL\MEDILIG MYSQL – INSTALLATION.pdf
3. Install OpenOffice.org 3.2.1
4. Install Java runtime environment (JRE)
III. Steps to follow:
1. Copy JDBC driver under JRE folder
From: .\MEDILIG\FE_OpenOffice\Connectors\mysql-connector-jave-5.1.13-bin.jar
To: C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib
You may download the latest version of JDBC Driver for MySQL (Connector/J) from MySQL web site
2. Connect MySQL and Base
Here is a tutorial to connect MySQL database with OpenOffice.org Base.

i. Run OpenOffice.org and select Tools-Options-Java
ii. Check that “Use a Java runtime environment” is found e.g. Sun Microsystems Inc.

iii. Click the Class Path… button, Click Add Archive and open JDBC driver (see step 1.)
iv. The Class Path – Assigned folders and archives should show the full path to the driver
v. Click on OK to close the dialog. OpenOffice.org will notify you that you need restart the program
for the changes to take effect.
vi. Finally, restart OOo and check functionality. Close OpenOffice.org completely, that is, close all
open OOo windows and shut down the quickstarter program located in the system tray (if it is
running). Restart OpenOffice.org, and the JDBC connector should then be available and
functioning.
3. Double click .\MEDILIG\FE_OpenOffice\MEDILIG_JDBC_MYSQL.odb
This will open OpenOffice.org Base application, click on Tables. It will ask you for a password to
connect to the MySQL server.
