We realize that we can choose how and what we will be fed, both spiritually and physically. We learn how high we can soar, rather than making little hops into our relationship with the Divine in each of us. As we learn to fly, to trust our wings, we discover a much bigger world than weʼd seen before. The winter months encourage us to stay inside, which leads to quieter activities. If weʼve got the quiet time, we might decide to use it to discover who we are in the depths of our magnificent souls. Where have you been playing chicken with your own Divine Self? Are you willing to discover your power and soar rather than survive?

Valentine’s Day...A Remembrance of Love

The theme for February this year is “Awakening to our Spiritual Magnificence” and the theme for March is “Realizing the Power of Mind.” It seems to me that we attain the first, at least in part, by doing the second.

Imagine that you are a bird. You know you are a bird. You hang out with other birds, eat with them, roost with them and have lived with them your whole life. Now someone wise comes to you and explains that yes, you are a bird, but you are an eagle not a chicken. And so you have to redefine who you are – how you eat, where you live, and what your expectations for your life might be. You learn that you are not a failure at laying eggs every day. You werenʼt built to do that. You learn how to fly, which might be a bit scary at first. You learn to hunt, which might feel overly presumptuous or even arrogant if you were low in the pecking order in the farmyard.

We are all humans. We all live on this earth. But what we didnʼt know, or maybe didnʼt fully understand, is that we are not as fowl (sorry) as we thought we were. We are discovering the

magnificence of our own souls. We realize that we can choose

how and what we will be fed, both spiritually and physically.

THE PREZ SEZ

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! YOU ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

From Winter to SpringJust as we gather up the harvest

to prepare for the winter, there is an inner preparation that occurs like hibernation that readies for the new growth of spring. The Celtic tradition that has been changed to ground hog day in the US is called Imbolc (IM-bulk). It is a cross quarter, halfway between the winter solstice and vernal equinox. It celebrates the coming bounty – lambs growing in the womb, seeds starting underground, bulbs readying – all changing from the inside.

Our Center has been making these kinds of quiet internal shifts, have you noticed? We had a bounty of interested board nominees ready to step up into greater leadership. If you donʼt arrive early, the number of available seats on a Sunday are scattered here and there. This is a positive signal that our message of a world that works for everyone resonates. New faces are lending a hand, and a wonderful set of classes is being offered to deepen the meaning of the Science of Mind teachings. All around are the preparatory indicators of a bountiful outpouring of good will…in, around and through this Center and its members.

I am excited by the possibilities ahead for 2016 with this kind of energy and verve. Touching the

lives of young people that have faced obstacles, helping families that have suffered loss, providing hope and truth in the face of health challenges are some of the ways I see us making a difference. Remember it can start with a simple thought – we are all one in this enormous family. Families rally together and create a bond that is strong and flexible at the same time.

From winter to spring…a perfect time to visualize the Good!

HEYKIDS!

As spiritual beings we are creative, and when I struggle to believe that, when things seem to be a rigid black and white, I turn to our children who bring it into full color.

Our children live in the moment without worrying about how the moment will unfold, but just knowing it will.

A few weeks ago, the children

put on a puppet show for one another just because they had the idea, and as the story came alive we were all lost in our laughter. All the children contributed in some way and they did so with care, respect, and fun.

What a way to live!Sometimes, I forget that it

doesnʼt have to be hard to be a spiritual person; itʼs just a matter

of listening to your instinct.

We have been talking to the children about listening to the small voice inside us, and I know that through our creative play, we are doing just that.

As we move into February and March, we will examine the “who, what, where, when” of God and how that translates into the “how” and the “why.”

I have no doubt that the children are seeing their spirituality shine through each Sunday.

Erin Smith, Youth/Family Coordinator

Pixie Stick HeartsWhat You Need • Construction paper or colorful paper stock • Scissors (you could also use pinking shears or fancy edged scissors) • Metallic ink pens • Pixie sticks • Craft glue

1. Cut out an assortment of hearts from the paper. Fold the hearts in half and make a small circle in the middle (this is where the pixie stick will slide through).

2. Ask kids to design their hearts with drawings or lovable phrases.

3. Slide the pixie sticks through the hearts.

4. On a separate piece of paper, draw and cut out arrow heads and backs. Attach the top and ends of the bows with glue. Set aside to dry.

VISITATION MINISTRYDuring the month of December, 13 team members reported visiting

(actual or telephone) 13 separate individuals. A total of 37 separate visits were reported. In addition, 11 team members participated in one Virtual Prayer Circle for an individual undergoing a surgical procedure at the hospital. Two team members were actually at the hospital during the procedure and performed an actual Prayer Circle. Also, one team member reported visiting the local VA hospital to visit a veteran in hospice.

A Virtual Prayer Circle is performed when it is impractical to be at the hospital. A Virtual Prayer Circle is where each member goes into prayer at a designated time, wherever they are, for an individual undergoing a medical procedure.

Would you like a visit, telephone visit, Prayer Circle or Virtual Prayer Circle by the Visitation Team for yourself or another? The team will, upon request, provide food and transportation where needed for those being visited. If this is for you, please contact the Pastoral Care Coordinator, David Sharer, RScP at (928) 771-2791. The team loves to serve by making visits and praying with you.

PRACTITIONER'S VIEWPOINT YES - WE ARE A LOVING COMMUNITY

As I am writing this I am looking out over Lake Pleasant feeling very grateful. The beauty of Arizona surrounds us daily. We live in a place where it is very easy to experience a natural connection with Spirit. There is much to be grateful for... and an item that is high on my gratitude list is our Center. The Center for Spiritual Living Prescott is a special place. It is a place where we come together to open to, and celebrate our gifts, a place to know more fully our ability to create the lives we most want to live. The teachings offer us the opportunity to claim our creative power. People come here to learn more about who they really are and how life can be more about Love and less about Fear. This is the month of February when we traditionally think about loving relationships. Given what is going on around us, it is a great time to be aware of all the wonderful loving relationships we have. It seems to me that people come to the Center to experience more love in their lives. It’s a great choice since the whole focus is how to give and receive more love. People stay for varying lengths of time. Some leave after a very short period of time and others seem to feel the “coming home” feeling and stay around. Regardless of the readiness the message is always consistent. “Love is Spoken Here.”I encourage you to celebrate with me the beauty of the love we share. We are a community with a very special loving purpose, “Creating A World That Works For Everyone.”Ken Kasner, RScP, PhD

SPRING - THE REBIRTH OF LIFEAfter months of bundling up to keep warm, most of us are probably ready to celebrate Spring and the rebirth of life that is evidenced in nature. With the arrival of warmer weather and increasingly longer days (Vernal Equinox, March 20th), nature celebrates with visible signs of transition from dormancy (viewed by many as a form of sleep, rest or death), to awakening (or rebirth). As we celebrate Spring in the northern hemisphere, those in the southern hemisphere are moving into the time where nature prepares itself for rest/sleep/death and people are preparing for rest/sleep/death (of a sort) through longer nights and shorter, colder days.Without experiencing rest/sleep/death, could nature or man possibly experience a full celebration of life? Without full expression of life, could nature or man possibly experience a full celebration of rest/sleep/death? It is through the experience of both life and death that we experience fully as creation. If this were not true, I believe the Omniscient One would have created differently!Around the world, people celebrate Spring and fertility in many ways according to their traditions, religious and spiritual beliefs. Christians celebrate the resurrection of Yeshua ben Yosef/Jesus on Easter Sunday (March 27th). The Jewish Tradition celebrates Passover, widely referred to as Chag he-Aviv, the Spring Festival (evening of April 22nd to the evening of April 30th). Wiccan/Neopagan tradition (northern hemisphere) celebrates Ostara marking the coming of Spring and the fertility of the land (March 20th). In SOM, 413.1.2, Ernest Holmes states: “Christ is God in the soul of man. The resurrection is the death of the belief that we are separate from God. For death is to the illusion alone and not to Reality.” Because we celebrate God within every day, I wish you happy celebration of the warmer days of Spring and to rebirth!Trish Mabante, RScP

I Recognize the Indwelling Spirit

Be still, and know that I am God. – Psalm 46:10

A belief in the Invisible is the very essence of faith. Prayer, or spiritual communion, demands a complete surrender to the Invisible. It knows that because the Creative Power of God is at hand, all things are possible.

Whatever our idea of God may be, the perception of Reality is always an inner perception. As Moses tells us, the word is not afar off but in our own mouths, and Jesus taught that the Kingdom of Heaven is within us. The prayer of power is not so much a petition as it is an inner recognition.

We cannot doubt that the Spirit has already made the gift of Life – since we live. Ours is the privilege of acceptance. Thus we are to assume the attitude of a grateful beneficiary of the divine gifts. This should be done simply and directly. The Spirit is not something that was, or that is going to be or become. The Truth is that which is; it exists at the very center of our being. To pray in spirit and in truth means to recognize this indwelling Spirit and to declare the truth about its activity through us.

Today I directly experience the reality of Spirit, allowing It to renew my mind, guide my decisions, and direct my affairs. I know that in the eternal act of creation, everything passes from the Invisible to the visible to be temporarily experienced. I rest in peace, assured that my needs are met by this play of Life upon Itself.
