Why joined AN Campus Forum Council:While serving as a place-holder for my colleague, Sarah Bogdewiecz last year, I got to know Campus Council and the work they do. I found it rewarding and engaging and I wanted to dedicate a full year of service myself.

What I would like you to know about me!

I am the ESL Center Supervisor. I have a Masters degree in TESOL from SIT. My wife and I lived in Suriname, South America, while serving in the Peace Corps, which was followed by a four-year stint in Japan teaching English. I practice the modern Japanese martial art of Aikido and recently started homebrewing. We have two cats and one daughter, Penny, who recently turned 5!

Why joined AN Campus Forum Council:It is my pleasure to serve once more as a member of the NOVA Annandale Campus Forum and to effectively, efficiently and earnestly represent the collective concerns of all Classified Staff. I seek to ensure equitable input to the campus leadership regarding the viable role of Classified Staff to support student success outcomes.

What I would like you to know about me!I am a native of New York City and joined the NOVA Annandale Campus in Fall 2001. I currently serve as a First Year Advisor in the Office of Student Success and as a SDV 100 Assistant Professor. I have served the College as a Senator; Campus Council (now Forum) member; Personnel Services Committee (immediate past Vice-Chair); as a presidential appointment to the NOVA Commencement Committee and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee; and on various institutional task forces. I am a passionate advocate of student engagement resulting in student retention and completion. My doctoral work focused on improving community college transfer to a 4-year institution. In 2018, I was awarded an NVCC Classified Staff Recognition Award due to exemplary performance and contributions that have made a significant impact at NOVA. I am proud to be amulti-award-winning Life Member and past Regional Director of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.and a member of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., the NAACP, and an affiliate member of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.

What I would like you to know about me!I'm originally from Massachusetts and have lived in Northern Virginia for seven years. I love being a tourist in the DC area! My husband and I enjoy taking our two young boys to visit the historical sites and beautiful landscapes of the area. I am active in several community organizations and I am a staunch supporter of family-friendly policies for staff, faculty, and students on our campus.

What I would like you to know about me!Active lawyer since 1993 and with an extensive work pro-bono in Civil Rights cases in Brazil against the Brazilian Ministry of Defense. I worked as a volunteer at the Civil and Criminal Conciliatory Court in home state of Rio de Janeiro. Due to high ethical standards I was retained as lawyer by fellow lawyers and judges. As a student I believe in the concept that you always have something new to learn. In 2001 I worked as a law professor. I have a Bachelor’s in laws by the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Jesuit), with Canon law studies by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, an MBA in Mkt and LL.M. in National Security Law at George Washington University (2015). I began at NOVA in 2016 with a double major in CyberSecurity and Cloud Computing Security. I am an SGA Senator and SGA Parliamentarian as well as President of the Women in Business Club, College Democrat and Astronomy Club. I strongly believe in teamwork and promoting a better environment for all at NVCC, and in promoting an Equal Rights agenda. If I were to choose music to define me, it would be “Nenem” (Boca Livre), “Wave” (Joao Gilberto) and “Defying Gravity” (Wicked), among many, many others.

What I would like you to know about me!

I started at NOVA in 2014 as the Associate Dean of Students. I am passionate about student support and success and have been privileged to work in the field of student affairs for over 25 years. I am currently pursing my PhD at George Mason with a concentration in Higher Education and a secondary focus in Education Policy. I enjoy family time with my husband, two wonderful teenaged boys and our two labradoodles. When there is free time, I like gardening, crocheting, outdoor activities and family time!

Why joined AN Campus Forum Council:I joined Campus Forum Council to become aware of, and understand the various policies, and initiatives for the Annandale Campus. In addition, I wanted to support faculty and staff and be a resource for them.

What I would like you to know about me!I am the CARE Counselor for the Annandale Campus and offer support and resources to students to address their overall well being. I am passionate about mental health and wellness and offer a variety of workshops for students, faculty and staff. I am a member of the Senate and serve as the Chair of the Annandale Campus Recreation, Wellness, and Fun Committee. I am certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors and am a member of the American Counseling Association and am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has practiced therapy for over ten years in a variety of settings to address low self esteem, depression, anxiety, trauma, and other life adjustments. I have a love of connecting with people as they journey through the various phases of their lives and I enjoy cooking, reading, dancing, being outdoors, engaging in service, spending time with friends and family, and a host of other activities.

I love NOVA and Annandale and I joined the campus forum to represent Annandale faculty and get more involved in the life of our campus and advocate for ESL students and faculty.

What I would like you to know about me!

I am originally from Russia, have lived in the U.S. since 1998, and love this country as my own. I teach ESL, have worked as a professional writer and editor, and have a beautiful daughter who is a student at GMU and is taking some NOVA classes, as well. Hobbies include reading, writing, solving puzzles (mainly jigsaw and logic), playing free poker, making jewelry, and knitting.

What I would like you to know about me!I started at NOVA in 2007, teaching math on campus and online. In 2011, I became the Assistant Dean for the math department while continuing to teach math. In 2018, I accepted the position of Associate Dean for the math department. I love to read and do all sorts of puzzles; jigsaw, logic, math, cryptogram, and crossword puzzles are among my favorites.

I was elected by adjunct faculty to represent their interests, based on my desire to advocate for issues unique to adjunct status.

What I would like you to know about me!I am an ordained Kohenet (Hebrew Priestess) and compose music related to that movement. In my free time, I love to cook and bake and I used to have a catering business. Ask me about recipes! I have three adult children and two cats: Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. My focus before coming to NOVA to teach Humanities and English, was in directing, designing, and stage-managing theatre professionally. I teach Western, World, and Women's history courses on the Annandale campus. I turned my love and obsession with books into a career. My academic expertise is printing and the book trade of early-modern Europe. I appreciate the content of books, their construction, the dissemination of their ideas and books as objects.

• As many of you know, Dr. Kress has asked each campus forum council to commit to three actions for this academic year which will enhance the diversity, equity and inclusion efforts around the college.

• Annandale will do the following:• Advocate to HR, through a formal proposal, to have anti-racism training required by all faculty and

staff and offered to students as well as establishing specific diversity, equity and inclusion guidance regarding hiring practices.

• Sponsor two interactive events, one in the fall and one in the spring, with conversation and guidance around decolonizing your course/syllabus.

• Offering direct mentor support for students enrolled in ESL and developmental English at the Annandale campus.
