We are in the process of becoming the Father’s sons and daughters!

One mark of the Spirit-filled Christian is his desire to relate his life to the purpose of his heavenly Father for this hour in history.

There is an awareness of divine destiny which constrains us to be about our Father's business.

The Father’s Table

Our ability to receive is directly proportional to our perception of the Father’s love, which determines our ability to receive at His table!

Jesus was saturated with His Father's love. He had intimacy by experience with the Father in such a way that he was in his Father's presence and heard his Father's words. This is what enabled him to do the Father's works. Cultivating friendship and intimacy with the Father is the key to our growth as sons and daughters.

John 16:23-24John 16:23-24

In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.

Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.

Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father.

In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.

No, the Father himself loves you…

Jesus walked in the Father's love--so can you! Out of demonstrated affectionate relationship with the Father, we enter into an intimacy where we feel His touch, know his presence and become secure in His love.

In that intimacy, we can hear the Father's voice and receive His directions. All of our communication with God is to flow out of a continual experience of the Father's phileo love for us.

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (NASU)

Sonship is being led by the Spirit!

Satan knows that the Father's love is foundational, because the Kingdom can't come unless sons and daughters see and hear what Father is doing.

The Kingdom won't come until the sons of God are revealed.

You can't function as a son/daughter without knowing the Father's love, and Satan wages war against us to hinder our receiving His love, extending over many generations.

Satan exploits our past hurts to fulfill his demonic script for us and sabotage Father’s unspeakably wonderful planned destiny.


For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" (NASU)(NASU)

We are placed before our new Father in heaven. He recognizes us! HE places His love on us! You are aware that you are in His presence.

Have you experienced the spirit of adoption?

The Spirit of Adoption Neutralizes Shame

You Might Have Shame If:

I am afraid to let my true self be known to others


I feel inadequate


I seldom feel as if I am living up to what is expected of me


When I look inside myself I seldom feel any joy at who I am


I define myself by my past failures


I feel inferior to the really good people I know


I am not worthy of love; why would anyone value me?

Because many of our earthly families and friends have let us down, we desperately need to experience being a child of the Father, receiving His unconditional love which is what we call the spirit of adoption.

Matthew 18:4

Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

"You Fathers -- if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not!

If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him." (New Living)

The perception of our heavenly father keys off of our perception of our earthly father. It is the first lens through which we see God. Distortions of our perception of the heavenly father, due to the flaws sin has produced in earthly fathers create the most prominent barriers to receiving the Father's love.

Your Family Evaluation

Take a new look at your parents. When young, we idolize our parents and want them to be perfect and all-powerful. We all too soon realize they aren't. Face the worst in your parents, see their faults and forgive them. This will open the door to seeing Father God as He truly is.

Bondage of Bitterness or The Freedom of Forgiveness
