tion. Disappointed to find that no one can read”.In his last chapter, however, Guy claims that there is also an obligation for entrepreneurs. He calls it “The Art of being a Mensch” and he argues that “right is right and wrong is wrong”. He calls entrepreneurs to simply follow a few rules: help people who cannot re-ciprocate, and don’t care if the recipient is poor or powerless, help without the expectation of return and help many people. Do what’s right because a Mensch does not the easy thing, the expedient thing, the money-saving thing, the I-can-get-away-with-it thing. And repay society because you are blessed. These blessings come with the obligation to repay society because you owe to society.

Many years ago I watched an inspiring video by Guy Kawa-saki - “the Art of Pit-ching”. And most of the Do’s and Don’ts he brought up are still true and fun. I loved the way Guy was gi-

ving his message: concise, clear, at eye level with the entrepreneur’s world and with plenty of humor. This is why for this issue of Startup Campus Connect I won’t write about trends and what to look out for, but borrow from Guy’s inspiring new book “The ART of the START 2.0”.

It’s a great read about Conception, Ac-tivation and Proliferation when you are in the process of learning and in parallel executing the art of building a startup. Guy gives a great introduction for Star-ting Up and helps you with incredibly practical hints for Launching, Leading, Bootstrapping, Fund-raising and - of course - Pitching. He emphasises that these are the key activities for the ac-tivation of a startup and you get price-less advice on so many little things and questions that come up again and again in early stage ventures. In chapter three, he unveils the secrets of proliferation: Building a Team, Evangelizing, Soci-alizing, Rainmaking, Partnering, and Enduring. He guides your way in a fun and easy manner, so that you are pre-pared to not be surprised by innovation, unlike J. Gutenberg, who on October 3, 1493, reported “Finally finished inven-

ETH Entrepre-neur Club

The Club‘s vision is to foster entrepreneurship in Switzerland and make Zurich the tech startup epicenter of Europe. The club organises many events, such as the Startup Speed Da-ting where students are matched with startups.

ETH transfer ETH transfer is the technology transfer office of ETH Zürich. ETH transfer supports the ETH community in all questions relating to research contracts with industry, inventions, pa-tent applications and licensing. ETH transfer supports young entrepreneurs in the early stage of founding their own com-panies.

IFJ The Institute für Jungunternehmen (IFJ) runs venturelab, Venture Kick (CHF 130’000, training and network for your startup), as well as is supporting founders through incor-poration services, intensive courses, business plan software and business events.

Impact Hub Located in buzzing Zürich-West, Impact Hub is a space whe-re entrepreneurs and all kinds of innovators come together to prototype new models for a world that works for all - connec-ting all sectors, industries and cultural backgrounds.

Investiere Via investiere, smart-money investors from Switzerland and the EU contribute to financing rounds of outstanding ear-ly-stage startups. RUNWAY Startup Incubator

Run by the ZHAW and supported by its partners ZKB and Technopark Winterthur the interdisciplinary Incubator Run-way offers startups in the early phase coaching, collaborative workspace and networking to accelerate their business and startup development.

seif seif supports and promotes teams seeking to apply innova-tive business ideas to respond to current social and/or en-vironmental problems, otherwise known as «social enterpri-ses». We do so by offering companies programs, consulting, training, and general support according to their needs and stage of development.

SICTIC The Swiss ICT Investor Club (SICTIC) is a non profit associ-ation that connects smart money investors with early-stage tech startups.

Startupticker Startupticker.ch is the online platform for young entrepre-neurs, innovators and supporters. The hub increases the vi-sibility of young Swiss companies and serves to highlight the diverse and vibrant start-up scene.

Startup@UZH Startup@UZH is the platform of the University of Zurich. We support students, alumni, PhD‘s, staff and researchers of the University of Zurich in the area of entrepreneurship and connect them with further service providers, investors, sup-porting associations and potential co-workers.

Technopark Alliance

Comprising the TECHNOPARK facilities in Schlieren, Win-terthur and Zurich. It increases awareness of knowledge and technology transfer, promotion of innovation and emerging entrepreneurs, and optimising conditions for startups and spinoffs.

ZKB ZKB offers professional support in equity and startup financing or mezzanine capital.

ZHdK (Z-Kubator)

The Z-Kubator supports students, researchers and graduates of Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) who want to contri-bute to the cultural and creative economies with independent projects, be it non-commercial cultural and design projects or with commercial startups. Serving as an experimental le-arning laboratory, the Z-Kubator gives users the space to de-velop and test new business and operating models.

About STARTUP CAMPUS

STARTUP CAMPUS offers CTI Entrepreneurship training courses and is an in-itiative of the Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI) in Switzerland.

We support the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs in developing their business ideas, setting up their company and implementing a strategy for growth. You can choose from three specific training courses, all run and led by experienced entrepreneurs. They are aimed at the founders of young knowled-ge based companies and at members of universities with innovative visions.
