Fall Activities When summer draws to an end, we'll be ramping up our Delano Neighborhood Activities. We would like to fill some volunteer positions to help plan these events at the September meeting. Please attend if you are interested. We will need volunteers for the Delano Neighborhood Cleanup. We need people to follow the Packer Trucks, Car and Drivers to haul volunteers behind the trucks, volunteers to put donation flyers on the doors, help with food donations and helpers to serve a meal to the volunteers. Call Dorothy to volunteer. 316-945-8425 See attached flyer in your mailed newsletter.

Delano Neighborhood Yard Sale. In previous years, Delano had neighborhood wide Yard Sales. I do not know how many neighbors are still needing a yard sale before the Delano cleanup so if you are planning one, now is the time to get ready. Most like to have a sale in a week or two before the cleanup. I plan on having a small sale also. Dorothy

The recent Block Parties On Tuesday, Aug. 8, residents across the City of Wichita celebrated Neighborhood Night Out. Our two block parties were visited by several city departments. Police gave bike lights to the kids and even gave a bike & helmet to the drawing winner.

Will walking beat bicycling

again this year?

In 2016, local “active transportation” grew by 64% in the last four years. Surprisingly, walkers were 72% of the active folks counted in 2016.

“We’ve documented this growth with the annual Bicycle & Pedestrian Count,” announces Tricia Thomas, Communications Manager for WAMPO (Wichita Area Municipal Planning Organization. “As we know, bicycle and pedestrian investments economy, public health, and the overall quality of life,” continues Thomas.

Volunteers do this count: please pick one of the 35 sites for 5-7pm on Thursday Sept 21 or 10am-noon on Saturday, Sept 23, by contacting 268-4325 or kswampo.wufoo.com/forms/m1lifzeg1fv9xww/ by Sept. 13. Brought to you by BikeWalkWichita.org

Bike Share in Delano Our first two Bike Share ICT stations have officially opened. They are located North East of the roundabout at Sycamore St & Douglas and one block West at Oak & Douglas. Bicycle-sharing systems make bicycles available for shared use to individuals on a very short term basis. Bike share schemes allow people to borrow a bike from point "A" and return it at point "B" for an $3 hourly membership, or at no additional cost if they have purchased a yearly membership. Bike Share ICT is a program of Health ICT. It provides the Wichita community with easy, affordable access to bicycles for transportation and recreation. More details are available at BikeShareICT.com.

"Park & Recreation Fall classes" Administrative Aide II Jessica Jones, City of Wichita Agency reports that Wichita Park & Recreation Fall class guides are available starting the week of (8/21) at local Dillon’s locations. Pick up a copy before they run out. Rather look at it on line. We have it posted on our website www.wichita.gov/ParkandRec/Pages/ActivitiesGuide.aspx

We put on these types of events primarily to promote our downtown Delano businesses. We are expecting at least 10,000 people to come to Delano for each day of this event - we want Delano businesses to benefit from these crowds. We have been distributing wooden nickels (10,000 of them) (with the dates of the Fall Fair) at various events over the summer to promote the event. Sponsors are encouraged to come up with some sort of deal for people who come back to Delano in the week after the Fall Fair and show their nickel. A business could offer a discount on a purchase. The intention is to get people to return to Delano to spend money in our shops after the event is over. We will have posters and a web page that will list the businesses participating in this promotion (see attached
