Meeting the dossos

The dossos offer:

• entertainment• sorcery rituals

• mercenary services

What attracted you to the service:

Fame of Burkinabe’ sorcery

Here it’s the story:

I communicate my will to meet some

magician to my local network

Local people tell me that I can’t contact the service provider directly, but they will try to work as

intermediaries

After one month, none of the

“intermediaries” seem to be able or willing to let me

meet the sorcerers, in the meanwhile

they keep telling me stories that raise my curiosity and

eagerness.

One day, during the independence day, I zip around on the moped with Olle’.

We end up in a “bar” where artists and “unconventional

people” happen to meet

By chance the Dossos are there playing some music. Olle’ exclaims: “wow...

the Dossos! They are really cool!!!”.

I don’t know anything about the Dossos, I assume

they are musicians.

Olle’ introduce me to them. They start singing and

dancing at literally 20 cm from my face looking right into my eyes. The song is customized for me, Olle’ does the translation in real

time.

Olle’ suggest me to drop some coins into their instruments,

that’s how I pay for the entertainment

service. Price is up to me.

Only at this point they reveal to me that I’ve been

blessed (sorcery service) And if I want they can give me an amulet also.

I ask for the price. They tell me a price. It’s not negotiable (thank

god).

The older member of the group take his

moped and leaves. He has to prepare the

amulet for me.

He comes back 30 minutes later with 6-8 rings

of different size covered with a

black greasy, magic potion.

I can pick the one that fits me. It will serve as protection.

There are some rules though: no

more eating unborn animals.

I have to do a ritual and repeat some magic words.

I pay.Again.

The older guy has a good opinion of me, so he decides to

introduce me their other service.

He shows me some pictures of him with

the president of Gambia.

He shows me images of him with the

head of an hippo he killed

He shows me images of people they killed in Ivory

Coast

They can do mercenary services too, but I’m not too interested of becoming a client. So they drop that proposal and we

go back to music-entertainment.

What’s cool:

• you don’t know who they are and what they do, when you find out it’s too

late.

What’s cool:

• the way you approach them (through other

customers)

What’s cool:

• the custom made service

What’s cool:

• the uniqueness of the experience

What’s NOT cool:

• the experience might be a bit

extreme
