06 January 2006�EpiphanyOn the 6th of January Christians celebrate the feast of Epiphany. According to the Bible three wise men arrived at the shed in Bethlehem where Jesuswas born. They offered myrrh, gold and incense, symbolising suffering and death, kingdom and honour. Children dress up as kings, carry a golden starand go singing from door to door, asking for a treat. In Austria they write 20-K+M+B-06 above every door- This brings good luck. An interesting Greektradition surrounds the Epiphany also known as the Blessing of the Waters Day, after the Orthodox belief that on this day Jesus Christ was baptised inthe River Jordan. In many port towns, divers go in after a cross the local priest has thrown into the water. The victorious diver is believed to be blessedwith luck for the rest of the year. According to the Bible during that day Saint John “The Baptist”, baptized Jesus Christ at Jordan River and at the sametime the “Holy Spirit” appeared above Jesus Christ stating the presence of God. In some parts of Italy children receive gifts from “La Befana”, a kindof good witch.

auf. Dafür bekommen sie eine kleine Geldspende oder Süßes. Bevor sie weitergehen, schreiben sie mit Kreide die Anfangsbuchstaben ihrer Namenund die Jahreszahl über der Haustüre auf : 20-K+M+B-06. Das bringt Glück.� �Christenen vieren ‘Driekoningen’ op 6 januari. Volgens de bijbel kwamendrie wijzen (later koningen) aan bij de stal waar Jezus geboren was. Ze hadden geschenken bij: mirre, goud en wierook. Deze symboliseerden Jezus’lijden en dood, zijn koningschap en verering. Kinderen verkleden zich als koningen en gaan met hun ster van deur tot deur en zingen liederen in ruilvoor snoepgoed.

This cross remindsus of the fact that we all have to die, that we will return to dust. Christians all over the world prepare for Easter. Some of them do not eat meat or candyfor this period of 40 days, some don`t drink any alcohol, this is a kind of fast.

06 March 2006 Clean Monday The Monday before Ash Wednesday IS called Shrove Tide in Belgium. In Greece, where it is also called CleanMonday, it is a day for picnics and kite flying, at which Lenten foods are eaten. It is also the beginning of a 40-day-fasting.

In some areas people burn fires to celebrate Christ`s resurrection. Christians commemorate the resurrection of Christ. OnEaster Sunday children get chocolate eggs, brought to them during the night by flying bells. These goodies are often hid in the house or the gardenwhere everyone has to look for them.

Bei der Messfeier werden Brot ,Ostereier, Fleisch, Salz und Butter geweiht und anschließend zu Hause mit Verwandten und Freunden verzehrt.In manchen Gegenden werden in der Auferstehungsnacht Freudenfeuer angezündet.

Christenen herdenken het feest van de opstanding van Christus. Op deze zondag krijgen kinderen chocolade-eieren, die hen gebracht worden doorvliegende klokken. Deze eieren worden vaak ergens in het huis of de tuin verstopt waar de kinderen ze dan moeten zoeken.

Die Sträuße werden getrocknet und im Falle einer Krankheit verwendet ( Tee, Salben, aber auch Schutz vor Geistern ) Maria Hemelvaart. Christenen vieren de hemelvaart van de maagd Maria. Εορτασµος της Κοιµησης της Θεοτοκου. Si celebra l’assunzione della Vergine Maria in cielo. È anche chiamato Ferragosto dal Latino Feriae Augusteae.

17 December 2006 Saint Dionysios DaySaint Dionysios day, patron saint of Zakynthos This is the date when Saint Dionysios´ body is said to have been received into Heaven. Saint Dionysios“Sigouros’’, the Patron Saint of Zakynthos, spent part of his life serving as a monk at the Strofades Island complex south of Zakynthos, later as an abbotat Anafonitria Monastery and finally as a bishop at the Egina Island. During his service at Zakynthos the murderer of his brother asked for his helpignoring who Saint Dionysios really was. Saint Dionysios finally forgave him, hiding him from the police, that’s why since then he has been named «Saintof forgiveness». On that date it is the name day of those who are named Dionysis or Dionysia.

Project Summary:In the process of finding out about our ROOTS, getting aware ofthem, appreciating them and accepting each other roots we wantto reduce racism and xenophobia. The 5 participating countries,involving their minority groups will offer a big variety of cultures.

In VIDEOS produced by pupils they have presented their schoolidentity. On WALLSHEETS they have documented their identity withintheir area, history, specific features. This CALENDAR has beenanother end product of working on tradition.

Another aspect will be the concentration on the young peoplethemselves. In a questionnaire we'll find out more about TODAY'SPUPILS (habits,...) their WISHES for the future (work, marriage,...)and their FEARS (pollution, unemployment,...). We are excited aboutthe results. "Do we differ from each other?" or "Is there a globalEuropean?" are questions to which we'll find an answer.

Comparing the results we'lll see if there are national trends and ifthere are specific differences between mal and female answers.The results will be presented in a leaflet.

The project has been documented by a website. The evaluation hasbeen done by a questionnaire at the beginning stating stereotypesand prejudice towards foreigners and at the end to document thechanging attitude towards froreigners.

The production of our MEGA-calendar was financially supported by the European Union.
