Centrifugal Pump
Application
The KSB Ajax Mega centrifugal pump is suitable for handlingwater, condensate, oil, some aggressive chemical productsand other liquids mainly used in the following applications:
● Water supply● Irrigation● Air conditioning● Fire fighting● Drainage● Heating● Chemical and petrochemical● Sugar and alcohol industry● Boiler feed● Auxilary circuits in refineries● Auxilary circuits in industry (paper, food, synthetic
fibres, others)
Design
Horizontal, single stage, end suction centrifugal pump dimen-sionally built to ISO 2858 and technical specification ISO 5199.The back pull out design allows for easy maintenance andrepair as the rotating element may be removed without dis-turbing the pipework. Pump has wear rings as standard andlifting eye on bearing bracket.

Construction
Horizontal single stage, end suction with vertical discharge. The “back pull out” design allows for the maintenance of thepump without disturbing the pipework connected to the cas-ing, or the pump alignment. The pump is built to the dimensional and technical require-ments of ISO 2858 and ISO 5199. Flanges are in accordancewith AS/NZS 4331.2, ISO 7005-2 and DIN 2533/16 Bar.
CasingSelf-venting horizontal volute casing with horizontal end suc-tion and vertical discharge. The casing has supporting feetand is fitted with a wear ring. The suction nozzle includes avane to reduce prerotation.
ShaftThe shaft is of the dry type, with protection sleeve to preventcontact with the pumped liquid (for packed gland only). Forstandard mechanical seal models the shaft is in contact withthe pumped liquid.
BearingsGrease lubrication – StandardMax. Pump temperature 105oCThe bearing arrangement consists of two deep groove ballbearings lubricated by grease. Bearings are shielded andgreased for life.Note: MH models have oil lubrication as standard.
Oil lubrication – Option L1Max. Pump temperature 160oCThe use of oil as a bearing lubricant is available as an option.Constant level oiler is provided to ensure optimum oil level ismaintained.
Shaft SealThe shaft sealing is carried out by means of gland packing orby mechanical seal.
The standard mechanical seal is a single, unbalanced, elas-tomer bellows seal. The seal is self-aligning and automaticadjustment compensates for abnormal shaft end play, runoutand primary seal wear. The mechanical drive eliminates over-stressing of the elastomer bellows and the single coil springis not affected by a build up of solids. The seal can be re-placed in the field to minimise downtime.Seal operating temperature –30oC to +105oC.

Accessories
DriveThe pump is only recommended for direct drive via a flexiblespacer coupling. Spacer couplings enable utilisation of theback pull out feature.
Where belt drives are necessary a separate jack (intermedi-ate) shaft with bearings to carry the belt loads may be re-quired.
All drive systems, where supplied by KSB Ajax, are appropri-ately protected by suitable guards.
BaseplateBaseplates for electronic drives are available in a variety ofstyles.
Standard: Fixed and grouted directly to the foundation.Anti vibration: Rigid baseplate on rubber mounts.
Rigid baseplate on spring mounts.Rigid baseplate with inertia block and springmounts.
Pump Selection
For pump selection the hydraulic performance curves shouldbe used. These curves are based on water at 15oC and SGequal to 1.0.
NPSH values are indicated on the performance curves. Atleast 0.5m must be added as a safety margin.
To overcome variations between actual and design systemrequirements it is recommended that the driver power ex-ceeds the absorbed pump shaft power:
Peripheral SpeedAfter determining the pump operating speed and checking itsmaximum discharge pressure, the impeller material mustbe checked to ensure that it is suitable with regards to itsperipheral speed, observing the following limits.
- Cast Iron - to 40 m/sec.- Zinc Free Bronze - to 60 m/sec.
* Peripheral speed of 250mm diameter impellers at 3000rpm is 39/sec.
