First of all, congratulations on the new bundle of joy you are expecting. Becoming a parent is truly the most important and rewarding job you will ever have! Newborn sessions are my joy. Those sweet brand new little angels are my muse.

You will never forget the first moment you laid eyes on your daughter or the first time you heard your son cry.

These are truly magical moments. As much as we hope and pray they will stay little forever, they grow up anyway.

Those first Those first few weeks seem to fly by and each moment becomes a fleeting memory.

As a newborn photographer, I strive to capture those first few weeks and turn the resulting images into a work of fine art to be treasured forever. Newborn photography requires loads of patience and planning, two skills I have down to a science! I will shower your little one with TLC while you sit back, relax and bask in the glow of your sweet baby.I know that I am holding your greatest treasure in my hands; safety is always my top priority.

Custom photography is simply that… a custom experience tailored to suit you, your style, your personality and your needs. When I am contacted for a newborn photography session far enough in advance of the actual session date that is scheduled, I have the luxury of ordering pprops such as hats, blankets, baskets, etc that are suited entirely for your session. You can not walk into a cookie-cutter studio and expect them to have a lamb hat to match the nursery theme in your baby’s nursery and even pair that hat with a backdrop that fits your color scheme. With custom photography (and enough time bebeforehand!) that is entirely possible!

I can also guarantee that the “photographer” from your cookie-cutter photography session will not be going home that night to spend many hours editing those photos, removing blemishes, blogging about your session, and going the extra mile for customer #2634. Custom photographers do! We spend many hours perfecting your images to create a unique gallery that truly makes our clients’ personalties shine through; a gallery that will preserve an incredibly important memory in your lifetime.

When was the last time you had portraits made at a large chain studio and actually had the luxury of your photo session including props that were custom ordered just for your session? Did he/she seek to find out who you are, what your style is, what your goal is with the session they performed? Can Can you even remember the name of your cookie-cutter in-store photographer? The answer to all of that is probably no!

Once you decide to schedule a session with

me, we will set a tentative date based on

your due date. I understand that babies rarely

come when predicted and I will accommodate

their personal plans for arrival. But a due date

will give us a base line. Once your infant is born,

please get in touch with me and please get in touch with me and we will firm up

our date and time.

“ Babies are best photographed in the first 10 days of their new little lives. ”

They sleep better, don’t have colic yet, and usually haven’t started developing baby acne or

cradle cap. If you are a c-section Mom, we can work something out. I know from experience

that recovery can be slow and painful. That’s why I offer sessions in the comfort of your own home.

Page 7: Megan Carey Photography Newborn Guide

Once I arrive I will give you some time to

feed and sooth your baby while I set up and

we make final styling selections. I start my

sessions by taking some portraits of your

baby on a beanbag. After that we will move

on to some relationship poses with Mom,

Dad and Siblings after which I will mDad and Siblings after which I will move on

to photographing your newborn in the props

that you have chosen. This order may be

changed due to the disposition of young big

brothers or sisters.

Before I leave, I will ask you to sign a model

release. This allows me to use your images

to pto promote my business on my website,

social media, and marketing materials.

Now you can relax and dream about all the

beautiful images that will soon be yours. I go

through the images from your session and

select the best. Once I have the “final cut”

selected, I meticulously edit each individual

pictureto correct any blemishes. If you purchase

digital imagesdigital images, I will provide a usage license (aka

print release), so that you can print your images

at the lab of your choice without any hassle.

Your images will be ready for viewing within

two weeks, at which time we will sit down to

view and order. You now have wonderful,

precious images to remind you of the innocence

of of your newborn, and you have documented in

a beautiful, meaningful way what those first few

days of life were like. BLISS!

Newborns are photographed very early intheir lives in part because of their flexibility. They are still incredibly fragile though. It is essential that they are handled with the utmost care. Part of this is being able to readbaby and respecting their physical comfort.I will not I will not force any baby into a pose that theyare not comfortable in, nor will I place them in a pose or prop without proper support. This means that often parents or family get to be a photographer’s assistant for a day. Any time baby is in a prop or basket, I will ask that someone sit next to them, and I will give clearinstruction to them so thinstruction to them so they will be confident. Many of the cutest poses are done by compositing more than one image together. The image to the right is one of the images used to create the hammock portrait. This was a three person job, and would not have been attempted without many hands and an incredibly sleepy baby.

Styling a session is one of my favorite partsof newborn photography. After getting to snuggle with beautiful little ones of course! I love to hear all about your plans for theirnursery and your own personal style. This helps me to create a completely personalexperience experience for you with gorgeous images you will cherish and display proudly. With enough time before your session, I will search, purchase and even custom commision props for your session. Many of my favorite vendors are in Europe and Australia, so I prefer to have styling consultations via phone, email or even over a ggood cup of Starbucks a minimum of 6-8 weeks before your due date to ensure plenty of time for items to arrive. I also have a large stash of props that are versatile to match any style.

Page 9: Megan Carey Photography Newborn Guide

Have any hats, bows, headbands, blankets, props, family heirlooms or other items you

may want in the shots ready.

Make sure the room or rooms are warm. (If we do the shoot at your location). Your

baby will usually have their clothes off for most of the session so it needs to be extra

warm.

Have room or rooms where the baby will be photographed tidy and clutter free please.

YYou should wear lightweight breathable clothing since it will be very warm where we

are shooting. If you would like to be in some of the photographs (and I will likely try to

talk you into at least one or two shots) we will shoot those first before you get

disheveled or sweaty due to the warmth in the room for your little one.

Your hands may be shown in some photos. Please have nails trimmed and clean.

Silence phones or any other distractions during the photo shoot. You are welcome to

take pictures of your session. In fact, I love seeing pictures of me in action!

TTry to have at least one other person there with you during the shoot to help.

Sessions can often get long and tiring for all involved.

Have water on hand…newborn sessions make you thirsty!!

Before feeding baby, remove all clothes and socks. Unfasten diaper so it can be easily

removed and wrap baby in blanket. This will help eliminate any creases or red marks

on the baby’s body.

Feed baby approximately a half-hour before session is scheduled to begin. It is

imperatiimperative that baby is well fed and burped.

What should we have available for our newborn session?

Lots of diapers! If you will be formula feeding, also bring lots of extra formula. If you are nursing, be prepared

to nurse a few times while you are there. I keep the room very warm for the newbies, so please dress

accordingly (layers are your friend). Remember I will be talking you into portraits with your little one, so I

encourage you to have something comfy nearby to change into if necessary.

Do we need to have our own props?

II’ve got tons of stuff including hats, headbands, backdrops, baskets, buckets, you name it. Still, feel free to include

any special things that you’ve bought, or family items you want included (monogrammed blankets, heirloom

bonnets, a special necklace that will be passed down, something with dad’s favorite sports team’s logo, etc).

Can we do portraits of our newborn with older siblings?

Absolutely, I LOVE sibling shots…but I can’t guarantee it for very young siblings. We will try our hardest and I

have lots of tricks and different ways to make it happen but I’m sure you know how unpredictable two year olds

aare. If they want nothing to do with the new baby, sometimes it just isn’t possible without massive amounts of

tears…from the sibling and rarely the parent. I also highly recommend full family pictures which can be a great

way to get siblings comfortable in front of the camera with mom and dad before it is their turn to be the star.

When do we pay you?

The session fee for the portraits is $250. A non-refundable retainer in the amount of $150 is due at time of

booking to secure your session, and the remaining $100 is due on the day of your session. That $100 is applied

as a credit towards packages only, and is not deducted from a la carte purchases, nor is it refunded if you choose

not to punot to purchase a product collection. Payment for product collections are due at the time of the viewing and

orderint session. Gift registries are available as well.

What type of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, check and credit card payments made via Paypal.

How long after our session will our portraits be ready for viewing?

Portraits are ready for viewing within two weeks of your session. We will set up a good time for your viewing

session at the completion of your portrait session. At the reveal, I will show you your images, the product options,

and spoil and spoil you a bit. This is also your time to order. No worries, viewings are low stress and lots of fun!

Do you also offer prints?

Absolutely. All of my collections include a print credit, and my a la carte menu has options for a range of sizes to

chooose from. With the purchase of digital images, you will receive a print release for your own printing needs,

and I can recommend some fabulous labs who will do a much better job than big box stores for a reasonable price.
