Section 2 Supporting Evidence

Images of work carried out during my time on placement can be found below.

1) This is an image of a mind map which I assisted the creation of with a small group of third year pupils on the subject of voting systems in the UK. This benefitted pupils in that their knowledge of the area was enhanced, they were able to discuss and check the validity of information with myself and other pupils and they could use it as a tool for revision. In doing this, I was able to improve my communication skills as it involved communicating with a diverse range of pupils with different needs and abilities. It also boosted my confidence as I was able to play a part in the learning of this group of pupils, and take great amount of comfort in knowing this which motivated me to carry out similar tasks in the following weeks. Some pupils also commented on the fact that they felt more at ease asking me questions about certain topics than a senior member of staff. This, again, made me feel useful and showed that the teaching methods I had picked up through observation in previous weeks had been successful.

2) Below are photos of notes I had taken during my time observing various staff members throughout various disciplines at Harris Academy. In doing this, I was able to see the various transferrable skills which would be required to develop in order to work in this field. I noticed a significant difference between the teaching methods of young, newly qualified members of staff and senior staff members, which allowed me to see the strengths and weaknesses of both and subsequently apply them to myself in the classroom environment.

In carrying out observation in different settings, I was able to analyse the way in which different teachers operated within various classroom settings. Placing myself in a wide range of subject areas with unfamiliar members of staff also pushed me out my comfort zone as

well as provided a new learning experience from the content being covered in subjects I had no previous knowledge of.
