(MINZAS)
The Mekong Institute (MI) announces the availability of New Zealand
Ambassador’s scholarships for 12 students from Cambodia, Lao
PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand (CLMT) pursuing a Master’s
degree course. The scholarships are available starting
February for school year 2014-2015 and provided mainly in
the form of a thesis grant and technical support. Three
scholarships are allotted for each
country and students will be
selected primarily on the basis of
scholastic achievement, relevance
of thesis proposal, and demonstrated
potential to play an influential role in GMS cooperation and
integration. The Scholarships are funded through the New Zealand
Embassy in Bangkok.
The aim of the scholarship program is to provide professional
development opportunities for Master’s Degree students from
CLMT through a structured training program and research
assignment under the guidance of experienced regional
and international experts. The program’s ultimate goal is
to promote regional development, cooperation and
integration through the network built by the students and
a more strengthened collaboration among Universities in
the GMS.

Objective of the Program
Program Outline
The scholarship program is provided in the
form of a thesis research grant which
follows a structured research cycle to
ensure the successful completion of the
scholarship program and obtaining a
Master’s Degree.
The research cycle lasts for one year and
involves the following major activities:
• Training Program on Research
Methodology – Month 1-2
• Research Implementation – Month 3-7
• Presentation in a Research Roundtable
Meeting – Month 8
• Thesis Completion and Publication of
Research Papers – Month 9-12
Selection Criteria
The applicants should meet the following
selection criteria:
• Has completed all the course
requirements for a Master’s degree
• Intellectual capacity as evidenced by
good scholastic records (provide
transcript of records)
• A well-written research proposal on any
of the following topics: Rural
Development for Sustainable Livelihood,
Trade and Investment Facilitation, and
Human Migration. (Please check the
research proposal format and guidelines
in www.mekonginstitute.org/minzas)
• Demonstrated interest in GMS and
ASEAN economic cooperation and
integration
• Demonstrated potential to play an
influential role in GMS cooperation and
integration in the future
Who Can Apply • Students from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar,
and Thailand who are pursuing a Master’s Degree (thesis option) in any university in the four countries
• Should have completed coursework requirements at the beginning of the scholarship program

previous and current professors (one must come from your thesis adviser)
3. A copy of official transcript of record in English from your Bachelor’s degree and the completed MS degree coursework
