“Digitalization in India”
A new era of development
‘Digitization’ and ‘Digitalization’ are two conceptual
terms that are closely associated and often used
interchangeably in a broad range of literatures.
Digitization refers to “the action or process of
digitizing; the conversion of analogue data (esp. in
laser use images, video, and text) into digital form.”
Digitalization, by contrast, refers to “the adoption or
increase in use of digital or computer technology by
an organization, industry, country, etc.”
“Digitalization includes Digitization” “Digitization is
the first step to realise digitalization” Without digital
information, no big data based solution is possible”
Digitalization is the use of digital technologies to
change a business model and provide new revenue
and value-producing opportunities; it is the process
of moving to a digital business. Representation of
digital economy the time is right for Indian
companies to pursue digitalization-whereby
digitized resources, such as cloud-based software
and machines equipped with digital sensors, are
transformed into new sources of profitable revenue.
India as a nation has one of the influential
government and political body in the world. India is
seen as a tough competitor for many developed
countries and global markets. Yet, we are a few steps
back when it comes to digitalization. The recent
scenario seems to move in a different horizon
towards digitalization. Digitization has ensured that
the right benefits are reaching the right people
effectively.
Like any other system, digitization also has its share
of demerits, a lot of times it is misused. Rural areas
fall short both in access and understanding of the
digital world. There is also a threat with regard to
privacy and data protection. Other crucial
components which are lacking during the course of
digitalisation are insecure cyberspaces, lack of e-
surveillance etc.
The crux of this seminar is to profoundly deliberate
various dimensions of digitalization and its impact on
the society at large.
