So…. What Is A Gunsmith?By Definition:

“A gunsmith is a person who repairs, modifies, designs, or builds guns.” (Wikipedia)

Does this sound like you? Maybe!

• Generic term covering home gunsmiths to professional gunsmiths

• No qualification or schooling required to be called a “gunsmith”but certificates are available

• License in a professional setting required

• Are you comfortable with the firearm and know its parts?

• Is it a small project? Manageable?• THAT’S OK!!

Guns are not toys! Safety First!

When to not use a gunsmith…

Comfortable with:

• Install of new parts

• Sights

• Field strip and clean ( refer

to owners manual)

• Scope installs

• Have the right tools or machines and skills

• Rule of thumb: if not fully tearing down gun

I don’t need a gunsmith!

When to use a Gunsmith

• Unsure of take down and reassembly

• Regulated chemical use such as refinishing / Cerakote

Work requiring machining such as:

• Slide serrations, porting, scalloping

• Barrel installs, threading, turning

• Blueprinting actions, bedding

• Trigger / action jobs

Reliability & Safety Checks

Professional gunsmiths offer reliability packages such as:

• Tuning ejector and extractor

• Polishing feed ramp and chamber throat

• Polishing breech face internal slide

• Spring changing / upgrade

• Magazine tuning

• Internal component inspection

Professional Cleaning

• Offer ultra-sonic tank cleaning

• Use non-corrosive solvents

• Difference between home cleaning

and a deep clean?

• Take down of firearm to individual

components

• Clean, lube and inspect for worn or broken parts

• Inexpensive, surplus or corrosive ammunition can damage gun

• Maintenance is key! Recommended every 500 to 1,000 rounds
