Evaluations
The District and the associa-
tion believe evaluations
should be meaningful to the
employer and employee, fos-
ter success and accountabil-
ity in job performance, and
provide an effective commu-
nication process. This pro-
cess should provided strug-
gling employees and their
supervisors an opportunity to
discuss an employee’s job
performance, his/her profes-
sional goals as they relate to
the goals of school site/
departments, information
about employee contribu-
tions, and district support in
the workplace. All classified
employees are to be evaluat-
ed by their Immediate Super-
visor. The forms used in the
evaluation procedure shall be
approved by the District and
the Union.

Presidents Message
For those of you that didn’t attend the Chapter Meeting on 4/12, we did a number of things. We
nominated members to sit on the negotiating team and we elected our delegates to CSEA’s Annual
Conference. Congratulations to Michelle West and Jared Ruddell for being elected to represent our
chapter at Conference in addition to me. We also elected Deb Cotter to be our Alternate in case
Jared or Michelle are unable to attend.
In the realm of Round Table we had a lively discussion about changes coming out of the Personnel
Department. These changes include, but are not limited to, things like elimination of flex time,
staggering lunch times, and other items that while technically in our contract are allowances we
have made over the years to make everything just “work”. Since in this new day the niceties are
being removed and we are being sticklers for the rules, we need to show the District what the world
is like when everyone does just what is in their job and nothing extra to make the everything “work”.
This includes taking all lunches and breaks, not starting work until your start time, leaving right on
time even if there is still work to get done. I do understand that there are things in all our jobs that
for the best interest of student we feel obligated to do, but I would ask that we be aware that we
need to be compensated for all work we do either through pay or comp. time.
Speaking of Comp. Time is was brought up that people didn’t want to work for Comp Time because
they never seem to be able to use it and they feel like it just sits on their Comp. Time sheet. Ac-
cording to our Contract, Comp. Time must be used within one (1) year of when it is earned or it
must be paid out. If you have been diligently using the Comp. Time form and making sure you get
your Comp. Time sheet signed by your Supervisor there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to
either use the Comp. Time or be paid for it. If you have any difficulties with Comp. Time contact me
and we’ll work through it.

Q: When students have a minimum day, do I get to
shorten my day and leave early when the kids leave? A: If
your paid time exceeds the student early release time, you
MUST stay and finish out your contractual day. The
ONLY exceptions are if you use compensatory (comp.)
time, or vacation time. In either case you MUST go online to
SmartFind Express to select your reason for absence.

Administrative Professionals Day April 26, 2017
During World War II, there was an increased need for skilled administrative personnel, particularly in the US. The National Secretaries Association was formed to recognize the contributions of secretaries and other administra-tive personnel to the economy, to support their personal develop-ment and to help attract people to administrative careers in the field. The first national secretaries week was organized in 1952.

Work to the Rule
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) prohibits employees
from volunteering their time in the same capacity for
which they are getting paid. It also mandates that employ-
ees must be paid for any work that is “suffered and permitted”.
Your work is suffered and permitted if your district knew or
should have known that you were working above and beyond
your assigned time. Note: district compensation can be in the
form of money, or compensatory time. Either should be logged
in SmartFind Express.
NOTE: In accordance with our contract Article 7 section 1
subsection b workday. The Lengths of the workday for each
classified assignment shall be designated by the district.
Each employee shall be assigned a fixed, regular and
ascertainable minimum number of hours. For just cause, the
District may change the hours of the workday of an
employee on a permanent basis. Appropriate notice should
be given.
Classified employees care about the children that we educate
and as a result of their dedication, often come to work early,
leave late, or skip lunches and breaks just to get the job
done.
NOTE: In accordance to our
contract Article 7 sections
2 & 3. Lunches and breaks are the
employee's right and should be
taken uninterrupted.
