Why Are College Councils
Important?
1. Higher recruitment rates
1. A successful college council can bring on 20+ members per year
2. A way to bring on large numbers of young men rapidly
2. Help our Order grow younger!
1. Average member is 18-22
3. Future state and local leaders
1. College councils are often our most active
2. College officers get a lot of experience in a short amount of time
3. Upon graduation, they bring energy and excitement with them
Making College Councils a
Priority
➢ One of the greatest indicators of success for college
councils is a state council that makes them a priority
➢ need consistent support and communication
➢ College councils often need extra attention
➢ Unfamiliarity with K of C structure, forms, etc.
➢ Full of energy/ideas, need guidance and mentoring
➢ If you support and prioritize your college councils, you will
see them grow exponentially!
➢ e.g. Kansas 2020-21 – 112 new college Knights, 10.2% of total
intake
How to Support Your College
Councils
➢ Appoint a capable and qualified College Councils
Coordinator or team!
➢ Ideally young, former college Knight OR someone who works well
with college students
➢ Give him a budget to allow him to visit councils, and possibly hold
events
➢ Ensure that college officers receive college council-
specific training
➢ District Deputies (or state college coordinator) should be equipped
to properly train their college councils
➢ Consider holding a statewide officer training or college councils
conference
How to Support Your College
Councils
➢ Build relationships with your college councils
➢ Many college Knights are not familiar with our organizational
structure
➢ Reach out to introduce yourselves and let them know you are there
to help
➢ Don’t let the first communication from the State Council be a
request for per capita
➢ Communicate effectively…and don’t oversaturate
➢ Keep mass emails to a minimum…don’t include them on
communications that are not relevant to college councils
➢ Utilize communication methods they will respond to
COVID Recovery
➢ COVID-19 created incredible challenges on campus
➢ Remote and hybrid learning
➢ Fewer events/programs, zoom burnout
➢ Poor recruitment
➢ Discouragement
➢ Re-energizing your College Councils
➢ Extra training and guidance
➢ Reach out to councils who are at risk of falling inactive
➢ Ensure fall recruitment drives are occurring
➢ Ensure College Conference attendance
➢ Support and encourage spiritual programming
➢ Have a plan for growth
Creating a Plan for Growth
➢ What college councils currently exist in my jurisdiction?
➢ Are the councils active?
➢ How can we strengthen them?
➢ What are the best opportunities for college council
growth?
➢ Where do I begin? How do I go about doing this?
➢ We will work with you and your college council coordinator to help
you develop a plan based upon best practices to establish new
college councils in your jurisdiction
College NCD/Reactivation
➢ Get your state chaplain involved to get buy in
from campus chaplain/campus ministry
➢ Assign a younger member to spearhead the
effort
➢ Assist with a recruitment drive, and then hold an
exemplification on campus
➢ Please reach out to us early in the process!
➢ We can provide resources, and even schedule a visit to
campus
How We Can Work Together
➢ Appoint a State College Councils Coordinator!
➢ Jurisdiction College Councils Reports
➢ Personalized for your state
➢ Includes a list of councils, 2021-22 Goals, and action
