Our Festivals
The Winter Okanagan Wine Festival at Sun Peaks ResortThe Festival turns 19 in January 2017 and hasgainedaninternationalreputationasanintimategatheringofwine,cuisineandspectacularwinterrecreation. The festival runs for 10-days in themiddleofJanuaryandattractsaffluenttravelersfromthePacificNorthWestandabroad.
The Spring Okanagan Wine FestivalWe celebrate our 23rd year in 2017. This 10-day festival coincideswith bud break at thebeginning of May. Our targetmarket includesregional wine tourists, BC Lower Mainland andAlbertaresidentswithathirstforeducation,wineandfun.
The Signature Event SeriesOur Summer Signature Event features theoutdoor tasting at theMileHighWine &MusicFestival at Silver Star Resort which is held thesecond weekend in August. During the yearweofferotherfeatureSignatureEvents,suchasPoutine& Pinot, to entice visitors andpromotethepurchaseofBCWines.
The Fall Okanagan Wine FestivalForover36years,theFallOkanaganWineFestivalhasbeenattractingvisitorsandlocalsalike.This10-dayfestival,endingontheThanksgivinglongweekend, has received numerous awards fromWestJet andAmericanTouringAssociation as aoneofthebestwinefestivals inNorthAmerica.Itoffersawidearrayofeventsincludingtastings,music,andfood.
Our Judging Competitions
The BC Best of Varietal Wine AwardsHeld in April in advance of the spring tourismseasonandSpringOkanaganWineFestival, theBC Best of Varietal Awards highlights the newreleases. Our judging, which culminates in anevening of awards, are designed to promoteand draw attention to the best varietals in BC.An extensive print and social media campaignbefore,duringandaftertheeventstimulatesalesopportunitiesforthewineries.Inadditiontothe“WineoftheYear”medalsareawardedforBestofVarietalaswellasgoldandsilvermedals.
The British Columbia Wine AwardsTheBritishColumbiaWineAwardsjudgingisheldin September in advance of the Fall OkanaganWineFestival.Itistheoldestandmostprestigiouswine judgingcompetition inBC. Apanelof10professional wine judges from across NorthAmerica,usingstandardizedblindtastingpointssystem,awardGold,SilverandBronzeMedalstoworthycompetitors.FromthisjudgingPlatinumawardsaremadetothosetrulydeservingwinesofthetop1%ofmedalwinners.Thisculminatesin the “Premier’s Award” for best wine of thecompetition. Awardsarepresentedataspecialreception thatkicksoff theFallOkanaganWineFestival.Apublication,togetherwithasignificantpublicrelations,socialmediaandprintcampaignbringattentiontotheawards.

Ourmission is to support thedevelopmentofthe wine tourism industry in British Columbiabyhostingseasonalfestivalsandwinejudgingcompetitions to promote winery sales at thecellardoor.
Wine tourism in the Okanagan, SimilkameenandThompson regions is aneconomicenginevalued at over $100 million annually. TheOkanagan has been named as the #1 WineTourism region in North America (HuffingtonPost)andvotedthe#2wineregiontovisitintheworld (USAToday). In large part this is due totheeffortsofourindustrytocreateworldclassFestivalsandeventstoattractwinetouristsfromaroundtheworld.
In 2015, theOkanaganWine Festivals Society was awarded the “Best MembershipOrganization” by Kelownanow.com and ExcelPersonnel. We encourage you to joinwith ustodayandbeapartofthesuccess.
