The intensifying demand of potable water led to several significant improvements in applications of membrane technology in water and waste water treatment.

DESIGN PARAMETERS Following factors to be consider while

designing membrane system include membrane life, membrane fouling & disposal of concentrate

Two types of membrane configuration used in distillery plant is Hollow fibre & Spiral wound

Membranes are typically made from polymeric materials, although ceramic & metal oxide membranes are also available

Although ceramic & metal oxide membranes are more costly than other types, they are used for many industrial processes because they can withstand very high temperature

estimated at approx 15.6billion US dollar in 2012. It is expected to grow around 8% annually in next

years. It is forecast to increase to 21.22 billion US dollar in 2016 and 25billion in 2018
