JARED CHOC, PLANNING AND TECHNOLOGY MANAGER THRU: ALLAN POLLOCK, GENERAL MANAGER SUBJECT: WEST SALEM CONNECTOR UPDATE Issue Shall the Board receive an update on the performance of the West Salem Connector for the period of June 2015 through August 2015? Background and Findings On June 1, 2015 Cherriots began operation of the West Salem Connector, a flexible, on-demand service which serves West Salem and connects people with regular Cherriots buses. After 3 months of operation, the service seems to be doing well. We have seen an increase of ridership each month. The service has been used by 133 different passengers. The service is averaging 1.55 passengers per revenue hour (which is just slightly less than our CherryLift and RED Line services). This is below our target of 3-5 passengers per revenue hour, but not unexpected since we have been operating the Connector alongside Routes 22 & 23, and only connecting with hourly service across the bridge, both of which changed on September 8. In the last three months, we have made a number of improvements to the software and service. We’ve added two new Connector points to help serve students and allow riders to better connect with the new Route 6. We have also streamlined the registration process, lowered the advanced booking requirement to 30 minutes (from an hour), and squashed dozens of bugs in the system. The lessons learned from this summer will benefit the riders of the Connector tremendously as it stands on its own alongside the new September 8 routes. Recommendation None Proposed Motion None
