RE: 2019–20 K12 Strong Workforce Program Selection Committee Work Calendar and Membership
Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the updated membership for each region’s SelectionCommittee to support the application selection process of the 2019–20 K12 Strong Workforce Program (K12 SWP). K12 SWP Selection Committee membership began in February 2019 and extends through February 2021. In regions where there has been attrition, membership was augmented using the same application and selection process as the prior year (see Revised – Guidance on K12 SWP Selection Committees – 2019-20 K12 Strong Workforce Program, October 28, 2019 for details.)
2019–20 K12 Strong Workforce Program Selection Committee Work Calendar and Membership December 20, 2019
Please find included to this memo a list of all K12 SWP Selection Committee members and alternates by region. We request that you reach out to the membership no later than December 23, 2019 to congratulate new members, welcome back returning members, and highlight some immediate obligations so members can plan accordingly. For regions that identified alternates, we request that you also notify these individuals of their potential responsibilities and invite them to participate in all training activities. Finally, please notify individuals who applied but were not selected to thank them for their time and interest in this opportunity.

K12 SWP Selection Committee Training All K12 SWP Selection Committee members, including alternates, will be expected to attend or view recorded versions of two important trainings:
1. The K12 SWP Selection Committee Welcome webinar scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 12:00 pm –1:00 pm PST. This webinar will be co-hosted by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) and the California Department of Education (CDE). It will provide a high-level overview of the Selection Committee roles and responsibilities and of NOVA, the online platform. WestEd will send the registration link to all Selection Committee members and alternates by December 20, 2019 as well as a reminder on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
2. The K12 SWP NOVA Platform Training webinar scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm PST. This webinar will also be hosted by the CCCCO and will provide a more detailed, in-depth training on navigating the NOVA platform, where Selection Committee members will read, review, and score K12 SWP applications. WestEd will send the registration link to all Selection Committee members and alternates by December 20, 2019 as well as a reminder on Thursday, January 2, 2020.
Selection Committee members will also be expected to attend a face-to-face training hosted by each Regional Consortia. Attendance at this training is mandatory regardless of prior membership on a K12 SWP Selection Committee. We request that you plan to host this one-day event between January 6 and January 17, 2020 or a time shortly thereafter. In this meeting, participants will meet all members of their region’s Selection Committee, work to calibrate the scoring of applications using the K12 SWP rubrics, and learn to navigate the NOVA platform successfully to score applications. All regional chairs will receive in advance a suite of materials to support the facilitation of this meeting.
Work Schedule for K12 SWP Selection Committee Members We suggest scheduling all of the tasks required of Selection Committee members and sharing these dates and expectations with the membership as soon as possible. Below is a suggested table of events and dates to support your work with the Selection Committee. Beginning January 14, 2020, the CCCCO will host a weekly check-in call with Selection Committee Chairpersons and the Regional Consortium designee.
Again, we thank you for all of the time and thoughtfulness you have given to recruiting and selecting such a diverse group of secondary, postsecondary, business, and industry leaders. We look forward to working with your Selection Committee so that they are well prepared for their important responsibilities.
