She was awarded the Senior Jubil ee Scholarshipin 1925 and was the first student to graduate fromMemorial University CoUege in 1926. Mrs. F reckerthen attended Lorett o and St.Michael'sCoUeges, theUniversity of Toronto, receiving a Bachelor of Artsdegree (Honours) in English and History . A GoldMedallist in English in her graduating year, Mrs.Frecker later obtain ed her Master of Art s degree fromthe University of Toronto in 1930. From 1929 to1933, Mrs. Frecker wasa lectu rer inE nglish and Latinat Memorial University CoUege and in 1933 retiredfrom academi c life to marry Dr. G.A. Frecker andraise eight children.
She returned to Memorial in the academic year1958-59 as a lecturer in the Department of Englishand was appointed Associate Professor in 1972. Shewill retire at th e end of thi s acadernic year.
Mr. Harnu m was born at Sound Island, PlacentiaBay, where he received his early educatio n. Heatte nded Bishop Feild CoUege in St, John 's and upongraduating entered the business world working ininsurance until he set up his own comp any, Harnu mInsuran ce Agencies Ltd .. in 1955 .He sold his interestsin the firm earlier thi s year .

GEORGEALBERT mCKMANDr. Hickman was born and grew up in Fortune,
Fortune Bay. He att end ed the Newfoundland NormalSchool graduatin g in 1927 and taught in severalNewfoundl and outp ort s. In 1935, Dr. Hickman completed the two-year diploma course at MemorialUniversity College and in 1937 graduated from MountAllison University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Hereceived the degree of Master of Arts in Educat ionfrom Acadia University in 1941 and his doctoratefrom Columbia Universit y, New York , in 1954 .
For eight years, Dr. Hickman served as pr incipalof Grand Falls Academy and came to Memorial in theFaUof 1944 as Head of the Department of Educati on .

Dr. Creighton joined the University of Toront o in1927 as a lecturer in the History Depart ment andbecame fuU professo r of History in 1945 . li e was theSir J ohn A. MacDonald Professor of History at theUniversity in 1965.
He is the autho r of many books on Canad ianHistory includin g the widely acclaimed two-vo lumebiography of John A. MacDonald. His other works~~I~~:~,:inion of the North and The Empire of the
Dr. Creighton is the recipient of several awardsfor historical writing which include the Tyrel Medalfor History , the Royal Societ y of Canad a in 1951 , theGovernor-General's Medal for Academic Non-Fi ction ,1952, and the Molson Prize, awarded by the CanadaCoun cil in 1964. He hold s membership in a number oflearned societies and is a Corresponding Member ofthe Royal Society.

Cecil Mouland, born in Doting Cove, BonavistaBay, September 27, 1893 , repre sents the sturdy ,self-sufficient Newfoundlander and is an outst andingex am ple of hi s generat io n and time .
As with most of his generation, he was afisherman during the Summer months and worked as alogger in th e Wint er .
In the Sprin g of 1912, he made the first of histwo voyages to the sealfishery as a sealer on board oneof the famed " wood en walls" , the S.S. Newfoundlandcommand ed by Captain WesKean. His Iast vspring atthe ice"wasin 1914, again with Captain WesKean inthe S.S. Newfoundland, but with tragedy and con sequences that were never contemplated.
On March 31, 1914, the Newfoundland's crewwere put on the ice floes on the Front. Some of thesealers returned to their vessel ear ly in the morning because of thr eat ening weather co nd itions. Mr. Moulandand his part y passed onwards.
Later in the day, some 120 sealers, many ofwhom had little food and were dressed in only lightclot hing became strande d in a blizzard .
They were on the ice for two nights and threedays befo re being rescued by ships o f the sealing fleet ,who ironically were only a few miles away from thelost party.

Mr. Mouland never returned to the sealfi shery. Tn1928 , he went to Brooklyn , United States of Ameri ca,where he worked as a carpenter. Retirin g in 1958 , hereturned to Newfoundland and resided at Hare Bay,Bonavista Bay, until he moved to St. John's severalyear s ago.
