IntroductionA memorial is a lasting symbol of remembrance, a tribute to a life now ended, perhaps a final gift to someone dearly loved. It is therefore extremely important that its design should be carefully chosen.

Our brochure has been created to offer you memorial designs in all of the traditionally used materials. Included in these are the finest of Italian marbles, coloured granites from all corners of the world and natural stone such as Nebresina, Sandstone and Bren-na which all originate from the British Isles.

If you are unable to find a suitable memorial within this brochure, our knowledgeable staff will be pleased to talk you through suggestions and prepare a unique memorial to suit your personal requirements.

Memorials for CemeteriesCemeteries are council maintained or private-ly-owned and usually allow memorials made from any natural material. However, memorials must comply with the sizes restrictions laid down by the cemetery regulations which, in many cases, restrict the use of certain types of memorial, in certain sec-tions of the cemetery.

Memorials for ChurchyardsPermission for memorials can only be given by the incumbent vicar if they comply with the rules laid down by the local diocese. Only memorials with an unpolished finish are allowed in churchyards and in some areas, designs are restricted. Suitable materials include medium and light grey granites, Yorkstone and Purbeck. White marble memorials are not gener-ally permitted but designs in Nebresina, which is buff coloured, are quite acceptable.

Permit FeesPermit fees are charged by both cemeteries and churchyards and these will need to be added to the cost of the memorial.

StoneYou will notice there are many different colours and designs in the headstones and memorials; these are all interchangeable, although some motifs will not show clearly on lighter coloured stones. Granite is very hard and durable and therefore not affected by weathering and is easy to maintain. The slightly soft-er marble, Nebresina and Sandstone however, lends itself to more intricate designs and allows delicate carvings and details.

Choosing a MemorialOur GuaranteeWe always want to exceed your expectations with the memorial we produce. In the unlikely event that you do find a fault in what we’ve made for you, or if a fault appears over time, we offer conformity guaran-tees of three years, for both work and materials, from the date of completion.

We guarantee to keep the memorial level, free of charge, for a period of three years from the date of fitting.

A trustworthy and honest serviceAs members of NAMM (National Association of Me-morial Masons), we are required to work to agreed standards of business and working practice. The NAMM Code of Working Practice is the recognised standard used by all reputable memorial masons in the UK.

All fixing work is carried out by our own masons who have been professionally trained and have attained accredited qualifications.

We are able to offer a guarantee that all memorials we supply or renovate will be to the standards laid out in the Code of Working Practice in force at the time the work is carried out.

We guarantee to provide you with the very best in customer service, as well as supply you with a me-morial stone of the highest quality.

SWe also offer the additional services:Freshly cut flowersWe can arrange for a choice of freshly cut flowers to ensure that the grave is looking its best which our specialist carer will hand deliver to your loved ones’ final resting place.

Planting of seasonal bulbs or plantsOur specialist grave carers will be pleased to plant out the grave with seasonal bedding plants or bulbs at any of your chosen tendings.

Memorial repairs and grave vasesIf we discover that the memorial or kerb edging requires repair or additional maintenance, we can provide you with detailed photographs and a written report. In addition, we will inform you if we believe that the plot may require the replacement of old or ‘lost’ grave vases, the renewal of stone, pebble or slate chippings, or any turfing or top soil work.

We can provide you with a ‘no obligation’ quote to undertake any of these repairs, renewals or replacements which we can then complete during subsequent visits. A specialist monumental mason would carry out any repairs that may be necessary to the memorial or the inscription.

Special datesYou can choose to have your tendings carried out around special dates of your choice, perhaps to commemorate a birthday or anniversary.

We offer a comprehensive grave care and memorial tending service, providing you with regular maintenance of the final resting place of friends, family and loved ones. We provide a range of high quality services, including regular upkeep of graves and plots, planting of seasonal bulbs and plants, flower displays and memorial refurbishment. So whether you are located too far away, are unable to manage the upkeep yourself, or simply find visiting too emotional, we can help you in the knowledge that the work will be conducted with both care and dignity.

At each scheduled visit all tending is undertaken by hand in keeping with the peace and tranquillity of the cemetery / churchyard by our specialist grave carers and includes the following maintenance:

• Removal of weeds

• Removal of all debris (old flowers, plants and other litter)

• Washing of memorial pot liners

• Light cleaning of headstone/memorial

• Light washing of decorative aggregate

• Light pruning of any bushes on the grave

• A before & after photograph for your records sent via post or email

E Memorial InsuranceOf course you will care for the grave of a loved one. But who will safeguard the memorial and repair or replace it should damage occur over the years?

Subsidence and accidental damage are very common issues. StoneGuard® can ensure damage, from minor repairs to total replacement is rectified very quickly from as little as £5.60 a year.

The StoneGuard® Memorial Stone Insurance is an “All Risks” policy. Typically, claims we receive are as a result of damage from lawn mowers, falling trees and subsidence, or from preventative measures taken by local councils when they feel a memorial stone may be unsafe.

What’s not covered?There are some exclusions which apply to this policy, including depreciation, wear and tear and damage caused over time by sun-light and weather. Cleaning, repair and restoration - other than that following insured damage - is also excluded.
