We will open our session with introductions and a comparison of surrogacy with other parenting options. We will then provide the first part ofour comprehensive surrogacy workshop that was developed based on the accumulated knowledge of hundreds of gay men who have alreadygone through the process. In this part we will go over the various surrogacy arrangements available for gay men, and prepare you to make the

basic decisions regarding your surrogacy journey.Topics covered will include:

• Basic terminology, types and components of typical surrogacy arrangements.

• Typical sequence and timeline for gestational surrogacy journeys.

• Major decisions that shape the surrogacy journey.

• Considering your family vision, financial constraints, risk tolerance and ethical preferences.

• Known vs. anonymous egg donations.

On the second part of our workshop we will provide peer advice on selecting service providers, cost saving tips, and resources for financialsupport. Topics covered will include:

• Estimated costs, and factors that affect costs

• Cost saving best practices.

• Financial help through the Gay Parenting Assistance Program.

Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in up to 6 introductory 20-minute group consultations with the various seminar sponsors. Anthony currently works for the law firm of Albert W. Ron Poole-Dayan, MHB Executive DirectorRon is the executive director and founding board member of Men Having Babies. He has over 20 years of experience inmarketing and business strategy development both in the USA and internationally. Ron earned his Masters degree in politicaleconomy and comparative politics from Columbia University, and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from theHebrew University of Jerusalem. Ron is married to Greg Poole-Dayan, the Administrator of the Jewish Home Lifecare NursingHome in the Bronx. The couple met in 1994, and are among of the first same-sex couples in the nation to father childrenthrough gestational surrogacy. The twins, born in 2001, were conceived with the use of eggs donated by Greg’s sister, andcarried by a gestational carrier. Ron has been the MHB program coordinator since 2005, and was appointed as the ExecutiveDirector of Men Having Babies upon its in corporation in July 2012.

Stephanie Scott

Stephanie Scott is the Executive Program Director at Simple Surrogacy. Stephanie is responsible for the initialscreening of all Intended Parents, Surrogates, and Egg Donors who apply with our program. She reviews all newapplicant profiles, records, references, insurance policies, and ensures all applicant background investigations havebeen completed and cleared before matching within our program (investigation includes a search of both Federal

and State criminal records, as well as a Residential History and Social Security Verification). She also ensures thatthe surrogates in our program have optimal medical coverage to cover the pregnancy and delivery and arranges forall parties to obtain a life insurance policy.

Jerald S. Goldstein, M.D.

Founder and medical director of Fertility Specialists of Texas, Dr. Jerald S. Goldstein is a native Texan who receivedhis medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas. He is board certified in both

obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Goldstein was an assistant professorin the division of reproductive endocrinology at Washington University Medical Center, St. Louis. Dr. Park joined the San Diego Fertility Center in 2013following her tenure at Columbia University in New York City. Her passion is to combine her extensive experienceas an infertility physician with individualized care and compassion. Jessica Galera

Jessica is the Managing Director at Family Source Consultants, oversees the day to day business operations withinthe agency. As a former FSC Egg Donor herself, Jessica quickly became passionate in fulfilling the dreams ofIntended Parents in building their family and joined Family Source Consultants in 2008. Jessica thoroughly enjoysworking closely with fellow reproductive colleagues and professionals in the field of reproductive medicine. Jessicagraduated from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Family and Child Studies, with an emphasis in Family andIndividual Development and a minor in Psychology.

Sam Chally

Sam Chally is the New Client Manager at Northwest Surrogacy Center, LLC. He provides intended parents withinformation and support as they begin the process of surrogacy, focusing particularly on our San Francisco program.He also assists with the development of our international and domestic programs.

Sam graduated with a degree in philosophy from San Francisco State University. A Portland native, he lived andworked for many years in Mexico and Nicaragua, where he was a teacher, Peace Corps volunteer, and SalesConsultant. He now divides his time between our office in San Francisco and his home in Bend, Oregon.

Emily Mounts, MS, CGC

Emily Mounts is Director of Genetic Services at Oregon Reproductive Medicine (ORM) and leads ORM Genomics,a program dedicated to the integration of clinical and laboratory genetics into the care of patients with infertility aswell as those from the LGBTQ community. She is a board-certified genetic counselor and has 18 years of geneticsexperience, during which time she has counseled thousands of patients to help them make informed choicesabout prenatal and preimplantation testing. She is actively involved in the genetic and family history screeningof egg donors and prospective parents at ORM. Emily has a passion for helping patients and providers navigate

the increasingly complex world of genetic testing and enjoys working with other members of the ORM team toprovide individualized care for each patient. Her professional interests include the genetic causes of infertility,carrier screening, egg and sperm donor screening, prenatal diagnosis, and ethical issues in preimplantation genetictesting. Emily completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan and her Master’s degree in GeneticCounseling at the Medical College of Virginia.

Said T. Daneshmand, M.D., FACOG

Dr. Said Daneshmand completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of California, Los Angeles after completing his residency at UCLA Medical Center. He is Specialty Board Certified in Obstetricsand Gynecology and Subspecialty Board Certified in Reproductive Endocrinology. As the Practice Director ofThe Fertility Center, Dr. Daneshmand’s focus has been in developing safer and more successful protocols forpatients undergoing IVF, especially for patients using an egg donor, a gestational carrier, or frozen embryos. Dr.Daneshmand has expertise in complex IVF cases and his research has included work on endometrial receptivity asa way to maximize the probability of success in IVF. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in egg donationand surrogacy and is one of the main providers of third party care in the United States, with patients travelling frommore than 35 countries in 2014. David Cole is an attorney, specializing in adoption and assisted reproduction. Following that,Mr. Cole handled the civil prosecution of every case investigated through the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center.Mr. Cole is a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys; a national organization devoted to theethical and competent representation of parties in adoption and assisted reproduction matters. Sunday Crider PhD, HCLD/ELD

Chief Scientific Officer, Sunday Crider, PhD, HCLD/ELD (ABB) brings 15 years of professional embryology and IVFclinic operations to 3 Sisters Surrogacy. Dr. Zoneraich received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University. ABOUT MEN HAVING BABIES

With over 4,500 future and current gay parents worldwide, the international nonprofit Men HavingBabies (MHB) is dedicated to providing its members with educational and financial support. Each yearover a thousand attendees benefit from unbiased guidance and access to a wide range of relevantservice providers at its monthly workshops in NYC and conferences in NYC, Chicago, Brussels, SanFrancisco, Dallas and Tel Aviv. The organization’s Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP) providesdozens of couples annually with over a million dollars worth of cash grants, discounts and free services

from over fifty leading service providers. Collaborating with an advisory board made up of surrogates,MHB developed a Framework for Ethical Surrogacy, which has received endorsements from leadingLGBT parenting organizations worldwide. In addition, MHB offers extensive online resources, adirectory with ratings and reviews of agencies and clinics, a Surrogacy Speakers Bureau, and a vibrantonline community forum.

SURROGACY WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES

THE GAY PARENTING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (GPAP)

The Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP) was created as part of our mission tomake surrogacy services more affordable for gay men. GPAP annually provides dozens ofcouples with access to substantial discounts and about $750,000 in cash grants and freeservices from about fifty leading service providers. Funds for this program come from eventsponsorship fees and direct donations. Applications for discounts (Stage I ) are accepted ona rolling basis, and candidates for grants (Stage II) are evaluated annually.

THE SURROGACY ADVISOR DIRECTORY

In an effort to promote transparency and affordability, MHB conducts extensive surveys ofhundreds of surrogacy clients. Using the data we receive, we compile exclusive rating tableswith satisfaction levels for various agencies and clinics, as well as success rates, and realcost figures. This information has already helped many prospective parents save thousands ofdollars by identifying affordable, effective providers. Together with our Surrogates Advisory Board and community partners worldwide, MHBworks to promote a Framework foe Ethical Surrogacy that benefit all parties involved. Wealso work to raise awareness about surrogacy by assisting academic studies, maintaining theMHB Surrogacy Forum on Facebook for dads and surrogates, and setting up the first everSurrogacy Speakers Bureau.
