Andrew WheatingA 2008 Olympian. One of the nation’s most exciting 800 meter runners at all levels earned his fi rst two NCAA titles in 2009 and was an integral part of Oregon’s near-triple crown in 2008-09. Was the 2009 NCAA Outdoor champion at 800 meters and the NCAA Indoor 800 meter runner-up. Also ran the 800-meter leg on Oregon’s NCAA Indoor Champion and school record-setting distance medley relay team. Four-time All-American. A two-time Pac-10 champion at 800 meters and a Pac-10 scorer in both cross country and at 1,500 meters. His 800 meter runner-up performance remains one of the indelible moments of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. Ranked No. 7 in the United States at 800 meters. Is the fi rst native of Vermont to run a sub-4:00 mile.

2009-10: Cross Country - Redshirt season.

2008-09: The 2009 NCAA Outdoor and Pac-10 champion at 800 meters. Also was the 800 meter runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Track Championships and ran the anchor leg of Oregon’s winning distance medley relay team as the Ducks captured their fi rst ever NCAA Indoor title. After helping the Ducks set the school record in the distance medley relay (9:29.39) at the UW Indoor Invitational in January, ran his second career sub-4:00 mile at the New Balance Invitational (3:59.11, fourth all-time indoors at Oregon). One week later, set the school record in the 800 meters in winning the Husky Classic in 1:47.03. At the NCAA Indoor Championships, helped lead Oregon to its fi rst national title by taking second in the 800 meters (1:48.54) and running the 800-meter leg on Oregon’s national championship distance medley relay team (9:29.59), earning a pair of All-America certifi cates along the way. Outdoors, won all fi ve fi nals at 800 meters and posted a fi rst and a third at 1,500 meters for good measure. Opened up with a win at 800 meters versus UCLA (1:48.76) to help Oregon defeat the Bruins. Doubled up with a pair of victories at the Oregon Relays, taking the 1,500 meters in 3:40.92 and the 800 in 1:47.66. Helped Oregon win its third straight Pac-10 title with his second straight victory at 800 meters in 1:49.83 and a third-place fi nish at 1,500 meters in 3:51.27. Cruised to his second straight NCAA West Regional 800 meter title in 1:49.48. Gutsy effort at the NCAA Championships to claim his fi rst outdoor title. Won his preliminary heat in 1:49.42 and captured his semifi nal race in 1:46.21. In the fi nal, overcame a tight calf down the stretch and used all of his 6-5 frame to lean at the tape and win in 1:46.21. Also played a key role as the second leg on Oregon’s collegiate record in the 4-mile relay (16:03.24) at the Oregon Twilight Meet. In the fall, ran three races for the back-to-back NCAA cross country champions. Opened season by winning the Mike Hodges Invitational (19:40). Helped Oregon win its third consecutive Pac-10 title by fi nishing ninth (23:46.79) as the fi fth Oregon runner to cross the line. Made NCAA Championships debut in his fi rst 10,000 meter race. Named the team’s Harry Ritchie High Point Award winner. Season

Bests: Outdoors - 800 Meters - 1:46.21, NCAA Championships, Fayetteville, Ark. (6/11/09 & 6/13/09). 1,500 Meters - 3:40.92, Oregon Relays, Eugene, Ore. (4/24/09). Indoors - 800 Meters - 1:47.03 (PR), Husky Classic, Seattle, Wash. (2/14/09); Mile - 3:59.11 (PR), New Balance Classic, New York, N.Y. (2/7/09).

2007-08: Phenomenal outdoor season for the 2008 Olympian saw him win 11 straight races before fi nishing second by .01 in the fi nals of the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships (1:45.32). That only served as a prelude to his silver medal run in the fi nal of the 800 meters at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, clocking a PR 1:45.03 to become the fi rst Oregon undergraduate to compete in the Olympic Games since Matt Centrowitz in 1976. That time ranks second on the school’s all-time 800 list. All-American was the Pac-10 and NCAA West Regional champion in the 800. Also ranks seventh in the 1,500 meters (3:38.60). Became the fi rst native of Vermont to run the mile in under 4:00 when he clocked a 3:58.16 at the Oregon Relays. Truly impressive run of victories in the 800 (nine straight) actually began in the indoor season with a win at the MPSF Championships (1:48.82). Nearly matched that time in his outdoor 800 debut in helping Oregon win the UCLA dual meet by taking the event in 1:48.83. Improved his best time to 1:47.82 in winning the Cardinal Invitational. After winning his preliminary 800 heat at the Pac-10 championships, set yet another personal best in winning the fi nal in 1:46.83. Became Oregon’s fi rst Pac-10 800 meter champion since Simon Kimata in 2002. Scored another pair of fi rsts in breezing though the preliminaries and fi nals (1:47.93) at the NCAA West Regional. Was equally as impressive at the NCAA Championships, winning his two preliminary rounds in 1:48.88 and 1:47.15 to set up the most exciting race of the national meet. Just missed an NCAA Championship when he fi nished second to Texas’ Jacob Hernandez by one hundredth of a second in the fi nals. Set yet another personal best in that race, 1:45.32. In the U.S. Olympic Trials, thrilled the Hayward Field crowd by advancing through the two preliminary heats in 1:47.85 (fi rst) and 1:46.23 (second), respectively, before taking part in the signature moment of the 2008 Trials, the fi nal of the men’s 800. Hanging near the back of the pack with eventual champ Nick Symmonds for most of the race, Wheating used his trademark kick on the fi nal curve to surge around the pack and fi nish second to Symmonds in a personal record 1:45.03 that ranks second all-time on the Oregon top 10. That fi nish earned him his fi rst trip to the Olympic Games, where he took fourth in

Took second (229-10) to help Oregon defeat UCLA in their annual dual meet. Established third and fi nal PR of the season in an impressive third-place performance at the Pac-10 Championships. Topped 70 meters again (71.16, 233-5) in a fourth-place fi nish at the NCAA West Regional to advance to his second straight NCAA Championships, where he earned his second career All-America award with a 10th place showing (219-11). 2007-08: Still recovering from a 2007 injury, earned All-America status in the javelin with his seventh-place fi nish at the NCAA Championships and was a key point-scorer for the Pac-10 Championship Ducks. Then, facing a preliminary elimination at the NCAA West Regional, threw another career-best, 219-9 to move on to the fi nals, where he improved on his mark again. Season-best throw of 220-2 was good for a sixth-place Regional fi nish and a trip to his fi rst NCAA Championships. Continued dramatic performances at the national meet, where he needed a late throw of 220-1.5 to jump to seventh and earn his fi rst career All-America award and score two team points. USTFCCCA All-Academic fi rst team. Pac-10 All-Academic fi rst team. Season Bests: Outdoors - Javelin - 220-2, NCAA West Regional, Northridge, Calif. (5/30/08).
