To the ones that make this all possible;I’ve been sharing my dreams with you for a while now about the goals I have for this Midwest move-ment. I want to see everyone come together and be ready for the spotlight because it’s headed our way. Whether you’re in music, sports, fashion or media it’s your time.

The world is watching the Midwest and they’re just waiting for us to do something to grab and hold their attention. Who would have imagined the Super Bowl would be coming to Indianapolis?!

I must say I am proud of the things that have been going on around here. The Midwest has been show-ing up and showing out at industry events and more lately. Now, let’s come together and make these moves so we can go even harder.

The ball is rolling for Midwest unity and worldwide recognition with some of the things our people have been working on. Yung Ro’s “Donk Dat” remix video featuring Chingy and City Spud was just pre-miered on World Star Hip Hop. Recently, a guy in Germany asked me how I knew Nappyville and told me that they listen to their music there. Mutt Dogg went hard at the Core Retreat in Atlanta. Mr. Indiana recently wrapped up touring with Young Jeezy for the Recession Tour. G-Mack’s got everyone singing “Get Naked” with the remix with Bobby V.

Midwest Leak Magazine has produced the official guides to the Core DJ Retreat in Atlanta and the Texas Urban Music Summit in Dallas. Let’s not forget the moves our media partners are making. Stop Beefin Start Eatin radio’s pod cast is listened to on a world-wide scale.

Forget saying “We’re coming.” We’re here and it’s our time. Le’Deana Brown

FIRSTROUNDDRAFTPICKS

JEZABELLE, LIQ SQUAD’s 1ST LADYLe’Deana: Is Jezabelle your given name?

Jezabelle: No, but it was given to me. When you’re a girl you ride with a clique. I have a clique and there’s five of us. We are cousins and sisters. When we would get ready to go out, they would always be like, “Uh oh! Here comes Jezabelle!”

What made you decide to use that as a rap name?

I feel like the game needs a Jezabelle. It needs some-thing promiscuous, but classy.

Is that how you describe your rap style?

It’s different. People keep comparing me to Mia X. The way she projects her words, her swag, the way she works…she’s my favorite rapper.

Do you write this your music yourself?

I don’t get any help from anyone. You can’t even add an “and” or an “in” into any of my verses. I don’t play that! What’s funny is, a lot of people may not think that I do write all my own stuff. I’ve only been rapping for two years. I wrote poetry when I was young, but someone inspired me to start wrapping. My life expe-riences became music to me.

What is your subject matter?

I enjoy talking about things I can relate to. Every woman feels like they’ve popped their collar and got their pimp on. I feel like I’m a teacher. I feel like I have something to give. My subject matter involves money, guns, sex and all types of stuff. It’s how a real woman is supposed to treat a situation when it occurs.

For example…

If a nigga ain’t doing what he’s supposed to do, I can tell you how to treat him and how to treat that situa-tion. I got you! If a nigga did you wrong, I can tell you how to get back at that nigga!

Mz. NickyMz. Nicky is a solo unsigned artist, born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is the second youngest out of six children. Growing up in the Madisonville Mz. Nicky got a clear understanding on life at a young age with her mother being an in home mom and father being a hustler. Things became all too clear to see her mother struggle with the reality of her husband’s attraction to the fast life. Her father could be found appearing in news articles for money laundering and putting his family at risk.

Despite the rough childhood, Mz. Nicky later left school to take care of her dying father in her senior year. Mz Nicky battled with the acceptance of losing her father and learned how to express her self with poetry. Since the age of ten she has always had a unique talent for poetry and music. She started writing her own lyrics at the age of twelve. But at this time poetry was her method of taking out her anger.

After a brief hiatus, she later decided to return back to school and publish a book in 2006. She began rapping but really did not know she had a gift for music. Although she started out rapping for fun, Mz. Nicky’s inspirations in life were the female pioneers in rap including Mia X and Da Brat. She had visions that she wanted to be able to take care of her family like her father but with a different approach.

Mz. Nicky inherited her mother’s wisdom on life and humbleness. She also inherited her father’s hustler mental-ity, but steered it in a more positive direction, which was music. As she has gotten older her music lyrics have drastically matured as well and have caught the eyes of many people. The most common reaction to her is that her swag is like no other female artist. She is often compared to her childhood idol Mia X and a female versions of Lil Wayne.

She enjoys the thrill of being on stage in front of a crowd, performing and opening for major artist like Juvenile and performing at over thirty venues in her early career in Cincinnati and other nearby cities. She is receiving great reviews about her music and performance she works hard on improving to make each performance unique. No two performances are ever the same with Mz. Nicky. With the feedback she has received it has expired her more and made her want to become a star more than ever before. This is her lifetime dream and destiny. She is determined to become a star.

A Letter From Your Therapist:It’s important for people to treat themselves to massage because your body is everything. You have to take care of your body so that you can function to your highest potential. In order to be stress free you have to be relaxed. This is the key to being more productive and having your mind clear to do the things you need to do.

Massage is good for your health and your body. If you have a tight spot or tension in a par-ticular area you are not functioning at your full capacity. People will go to the doctor and get medicines to mask the pain. Tylenol or muscle relaxers may make the pain go away for a time, but massage gets to the root of the pain. Massage therapy brings oxygen to back to the tissue and gets things flowing right again. Problem solved!

It is important to visit a massage therapist because a simple back rub is not therapeutic. The place where you feel pain may not be the source of the pain. As the owner of Loyal Hands Massage Therapy we offer professional massage by trained therapists. Each muscle has an insertion and origination point. Professionals are trained on where muscles come from, which directions they run and what techniques relieve certain conditions.

I have been a nurse for nine years and have been educated on the inner workings of the body. I recognize the problems people are having and educate them on how to prevent them in the future. When you bring people knowledge, they have more appreciation for you and your skills. Knowledge is power.

Love,Loyalty

DERRTY DJSMIDWESTSUMMIT

2009It was a beautiful thing to see the Midwest come to-gether behind the Derrty DJs this May. Artists, DJs, record labels, media and fans came out to show love for the STL based DJ crew’s Midwest Summit.

The weekend was full of panel discussions, par-ties, concerts and listen-ing suites. Midwest Leak Magazine was in the building and captured some of the highlights for your viewing plea-sure here. More photos are available on MidwestLeak.com

The sad point of the weekend came during the May Day parade. Dur-ing a time meant for cel-ebration and fellowship, gunfire erupted. Thanks to the Young Fly & Saved (THEYFS.com) crew for pointing out the tragedy and reminding the city that’s not the way it’s supposed to be.

The highlight of the weekend was the finale concert featuring the re-union of the St. Lunatics. Gorilla Zoe, Yung Joc, Twista, Rich Boy and more came through and blessed the stage before the Lunatics.

The crowd in the Lou’ went crazy to see all of their ‘Tics together. They went even crazier when the mics went out and the concert had to come to an early end. All in all it was a wonderful week-end and a great show.

COVERSTORY

MENof

BUSINESSBy: Le’Deana Brown

At first glance, people assume that M.O.B. must stand for a derogatory phrase commonly associated with the pursuit of currency above all else. However, in the case of this India-napolis based duo, the acronym stands for something that no one can deny will aid in the pursuit of currency and many more things if they live up to its expectations and strive to be Men of Business.

Abstract Entertainment Group is breeding the young gentlemen to be just that taking care to introduce M.O.B. to every aspect of the music game possible and in a professional manner. This comes not just from going around passing out flyers, but maximizing every opportunity.

Hard work and diligence pays off. The Men of Business won the 16th annual Billboard Songwriter Award for best lyrics for their song “Head Right.” They submitted their positive themed song against many independent artists across the country. “Head Right” is not the only positive themed song penned by the duo. UGP will be shooting the video for “Head Right” soon and M.O.B. is inviting out any other independent artists, DJs and models to be a part of it.

“We wrote the songs with no intentions of them winning an award or being placed in a movie, but we regularly submit for every opportunity we can. We’ve submitted to songwrit-ing contests and movie soundtracks,” said M.O.B.

The song “Girl Dance” was recently selected for film placement through Carson Entertain-ment, a Los Angeles based film company.

Men of Business has been moving around a lot lately performing for many industry events and as opening acts for concerts.

“We’ve opened up for Do or Die, Freeway, and were even asked to come back up for an Encore at the E-40 concert,” said M.O.B. “We’ve done shows in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, Georgia, Florida, and New York in addition to our home state of Indiana.”

Men of Business is about their business and helping the business of others even doing shows for community service in their hometown. The group opened for Pleasure P at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Academy recently.

The duo is scheduled to perform at the Texas Urban Music Summit in June and Abstract will be having an independent artist showcase at the Music Mill June 19th and 23rd. Their single “Bounce” is available on all digital outlets and their new mixtape, “The Way We Liv-in’” will be available on June 23rd as well. The group’s new single with Bohagon is called “The Way You Move” and is available to check out online at MySpace.com/kdbuke317.

Abstract Entertainment Group also offers management to other independent artists. For management or booking inquiries, call 317-410-4290 or 317-701-5386 or email [email protected]
