“Men’s Day 2014 Celebration”

From Our Pastor . . .

Greetings my Brothers and Sisters, Today, we celebrate our Annual Men’s Day. We are blessed to have faithful and dedicated men within our congregation who give tirelessly of their service and are faithful to the Lord’s work. Today, we thank God for his faithfulness and we encourage our men who are “Doing the

Will of God from the Heart”. We pray that all will be poised to serve our Lord in an exciting and enriching way.

As we assess our churches, we are reminded that many congregations lack the strength of men. We want to make NFBCT a model for what men can do with the Lord’s help by reaching men in our families and communities. If we have men in our congregation who have not stepped up to the plate, let this be a time for discernment. Ask, “Lord, what would you have me to do?” I make this challenge to every man and women of NFBCT to invite one man to church over the course of the next coming weeks. Each one, reach one. You may ask many to attend but make an effort to bring one to church. We further encourage Men of NFBCT to join in prayer, study, meeting and fellowship each Second Saturday of the Month at 9AM. This provides great opportunity to share in doing the work of the Lord for the church and community.

Thank you to the leadership of our Men’s Day Chairperson and Vice Chairperson and those who have helped to encourage them as they have led this effort. Both have put their hand to the plow, pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling in Jesus Christ.

We are excited to enjoy the preaching company of Pastor Antonio Bishop, Sr. and Rev. Dr. Frank Guns, Sr. We look forward to a powerful word from the Lord. Pray for these men today as they preach. Pray that more men will be inspired to do more for the Lord in the church and surrounding community and give their lives to the Lord. Be blessed,

Pastor William J. Smith, Jr.

Deacon Fred Rodgers Vice-Chairman, Men’s Day 2014 Committee

To God be the glory for the great things he has done.

It is my distinct honor and privilege to be your servant leader as vice chairman for this 2014 Men’s Day Celebration. It is a joy to see the men to work, to study, to pray and to worship together in a spirit, of love, harmony, peace and joy.

It is my continued prayer that the men’s fellowship of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) will continue to grow in the blessings of God to hold on to

our faith and continue to send out soldiers of God for kingdom building in generations to come. I thank you and love you for all your great support. Oh, what a fellowship!

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. — Philippians 4:13 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord,

and not unto men. —Colossians 3:23

Founder of Anointed Word Ministries, Portsmouth, VA

Dr. Antonio Bishop, Sr. is a native of Portsmouth, VA and a product of Portsmouth Public School system. After graduating from I.C.

In May 1999, Dr. Bishop along with his wife Angela founded the Anointed Word Ministries. This began as outreach ministries were people could receive counseling, teaching, and assistance with food, clothing, etc… Because of Dr. Bishop’s sincere belief that this ministry could be expanded, Anointed Word Ministries was organized and established into a church in 2001. In May 2001, Anointed Word Ministries held its first worship service.

Dr. Antonio Bishop Sr. continued to further his education, incorporating his education and experience into the vision he had for the people who would come into contact with the ministry to become empowered, encouraged, and equipped living a holistic life. In 2001, he received a Master of Arts Degree in Urban Education and Counseling. This led to the completion of licensure in Substance Abuse Counseling in the state of Virginia. As the ministry began to grow, Dr. Bishop recognized the need to be educated in the operations of ministry. In 2004, he completed his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Christian Life School of Theology.

In August 2011, Dr. Bishop was elected the Senior Pastor of Miracle of Faith Baptist Church, Independent in Portsmouth, Va. He was officially installed as the pastor on November 6, 2011. He currently serves both congregations as Senior Pastor. He is an international preacher and teacher.

Dr. Bishop is currently affiliated with the Mt. Calvary Holy Church of America under the leadership of Bishop Alfred Owens & Co-Pastor Susie Owens, The Next Generation Pastor’s Institute with Dr. Carolyn Showell, and he is the Overseer of The School Of Ministry for Kingdom Destiny Fellowship, International under the leadership of Bishop Derrick Robinson.

Dr. Bishop is married to Angela M. Bishop to whom he has been married to since September 1993. He and his wife are the proud parents of LaShawnda, Antonio Jr., Destiny, and James and grandfather of Shaniya Bishop. He also has two spiritual sons, Shannan and Josh.

Brother Wilroy Hill, Jr.

Brother Hill (71 years of age) has been a member of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) for 42 years. He is the loving husband of Sister Paige E. Hill (who is also a member), the father of one son, three grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was employed with Giant Open Air Market, Norfolk Naval Air Station, Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, and retired from Local 124

International Longshoreman Association.

His hobbies include word search puzzles and gardening. Brother Hill loves his flowers and yard and this year has bananas on his trees. Brother Hill is also active in his community as a member of the Cavalier Manor Civic League and PCR.

As an active member of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville), he attends Noon Day Prayer Service, Mid-week Prayer Service and Adult Bible Study, participates with the Men’s Ministry, sings in the Male Chorus, and attends Vacation Bible School.

His favorite scripture is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” and his favorite Christian song, “ My Heavenly Home”.

What Brother Hill loves about New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) — “Worship, Fellowship, and Friendship.” What a blessing to have Brother Hill and Sister Hill as part our church family. Let’s give a loud “Bless You” to Brother Wilroy Hill, Jr., our “Senior in the Spotlight”.
