In the dictionary a principal is defined as the most impor-tant, consequential, or influ-ential chief. Being a princi-pal means you are selfless. There are times when you’d rather be playing the drums or planning a camping trip with the family, but you know that you have impor-tant duties. Imagine a day where the entire school looks up to you. Here’s a preview of your 2010-1011 yearbook.

Many of you will be buying a yearbook for the awesome year of 7th/8th grade, but I would like to bet you that many of you don’t even know what is in it. This year things are going to be a little backwords (or did I mean backwards?) and wacky. I won’t explain exactly what I mean, but I will tell you that the theme for this year is Splatter. The splatter theme is one of the best themes for those that are artistic to anyone who just likes psychedelic designs.

Inside this year’s yearbook there are your standard school pic-

tures, but there will also be team pages. The team pages are pages only for your team. These pages will contain pictures of awesome Mendive moments that your team pulled off. There will also be pages containing holidays and happenings, from the best Halloween costume ever to… the cutest Valentine sweethearts. So, go forth and buy a yearbook.

Yearbooks are now $35.00 and can be

purchased from Mrs. Reynolds. Due to the economy, there are only 400 this year, so ensure you get one by buying early. Once they are sold out, they are gone.

High school is full of drama. When a lie between friends turns into school wide gossip, Olive, the main character’s whole world turns against her. In this movie she is faced with many challenges including lying, love, friend drama, hate… and lots of gift cards! At the end all is well when her night in shining armor comes to rescue her. Easy A is perfect for almost anyone regardless of if you like comedy, drama or cheesy romance. Here is what others said… “A comedy masterpiece… You will be laughing your butt off the entire movie. “ “I love it. It was hilarious. “ “The best comedy I have seen in a long time…It was fantastic!”

50% of Mendive thought JEGGINGS were too tight

When we are older will we look back and be ashamed of what we wore? I keep wondering if skinny jeans are a fad that lives on forever, just like the Polaroid camera, peace signs, floral print and combat boots. So, what’s the deal with skinny jeans? It seems like everyone’s wearing them. We surveyed and found out what skinny jeans you think are too skinny:

34% of you said nothings too skinny, 38% of you said super

skinnyz are too skinny, 4% said straight legs are too skinny, and 24% of you said jeggings are too skinny. . Personally I think nothing is too skinny. Bring on the skinnyz; empower them!

DR. PHILBILLY

My best friend won’t talk to me anymore and I don’t know what to do. I tried talking to her and she totally blew me off. What should I do?

-Fighting

Dear Fighting, One approach to solving these kinds of problems is to call her and apologize. This way she can’t walk away from you, and she’ll actually listen to what you have to say. An-other approach is to just give her distance until everything cools down and gets better. Should I ask out the guy I really like even if I don’t know if he likes me back -Secret Admirer

Dear Secret Admirer, I know how difficult it can

be to ask someone out, especially if you are unsure of their feelings for you, but my advice is GO FOR IT!! The worst he can say is no, and if he does say no, find someone else who looks like boyfriend material. You are still just a kid, though you may not want to believe it, you are. You shouldn’t let boys bring you down. Yes, having a boyfriend is great, but if he does say no then just hold your head up high. Take a chance! He’ll probably admire you for having the courage and integrity

What’s your advice on friend arguments? -Struggling

Dear Struggling, Being a victim of friend argu-ments myself, there are many ways to approach the issue. One approach you may find yourself using is fighting back. This, in many cases, may not help you very much, but might make your friend angrier that you would talk to them in such way. The approach that I find works best is to just tell your friend you are sorry that you guys are fighting and maybe sit down to work out your problems. Good luck. How do I start a band? Like a rock band that will get me to be famous? -Rocking Dreamer

Dear Rocking Dreamer, I would recommend that you just get a band going with some of your friends. When you get really good, try signing up for a talent show or a performance at your school. Maybe you could even try posting videos of you on the Internet. Travie McCoy was discovered on MySpace, so was Colbie Caillat. Cody Simpson was discovered on YouTube. Try your best, practice hard, and best of luck to you!

to ask him out. Some advice I have for asking him out is

♥don‘t do it through a text message or a phone call-he’ll think your scared.

♥do it in person-he will think you are strong and won’t back down.

♥don’t tell everyone around you that you like him- they will try to pressure him into liking you back.

♥just get it over with and keep your head held high.

♥don’t act over eager-boys don’t like you to be clingy. How do I sign up for club? -Clubber Dear Clubber, To sign up for a club you go to the office and place your names on the clipboards of the clubs you want to join!!! There not on the same days usually so you don’t have to worry about signing up for two clubs that are on the same day. Right now there are a few clubs that have been decided for the year: Asian nation, anime, pho-tography, bridge, and chess !!!!! Hope you enjoy every minute of them and thanks for showing Mendive spirit!!

friends ask her and she probably won’t answer honestly. A better way to do this would be to maybe flirt or talk to her and see if she flirts back or seems inter-ested in the conversation. Keep in mind that at the same she might just like to flirt with guys or just want to be your friend. It is a sticky situation. I think the best way is to become friends with her and then ask her if she likes you. I would be careful with how you approach it.

I like a girl, but I don’t know how to ask her out. Please help!—Mr. Shy

Dear Mr. Shy, You don’t want to ask your friends to do it because then the girl will know that you had your

Pants usually rest on the hip-stomach area, but lately the pants of 11-14 year old boys’ pants have been slipping to the middle of the buttocks, revealing the layers of the boys’ undergarments. According to the American Hip Association, “sagging can cause the hips of the boy to become confused with the place-ment of the waist, thus causing it to adjust it’s height above the legs resulting in a loss of height of said boys.” Newer proportions of the chest and pelvis in height have not yet been indicated, but it is definite pos-sibility. Walking limps have also been categorized as a threat because of sagging pants. More information on the matter is being explored, but we have definitely proved that this is a serious adjustment in “t-ween” lives. The battle of sagging pants will take many victims.

Have you ever thrown a bottle into the ocean and wondered if it would ever be found? Well here is a story that you might relate to. One year ago student Corey Swearingen wrote a letter, put it in an old wine bottle, corked it, and set it sailing. It was just an experiment for school he said, and had never had any hopes of the bottle ever being found. Then on an ordinary day the letter was found by a son and father jogging along the beach. Inside the letter was contact info for who-ever found the bottle. In the letter it had his phone # and mailing address. So as instructed to do so, the two men con-tacted Corey. In the phone call Corey found out that it had been found in Ireland. So we asked you! The Mendive stu-dents what you thought would happen 16/26 said yeah I think it would be found 5/ 26 said ummm . . . heck no! So go out and try it! Maybe it works???

MT: What are some facts about you others might not know? MG: I played soccer for 35 years. I have 4 college degrees. Switzerland is my favorite place in the world. 3 aunts, 3 uncles, 1 full set of grandpar-ents, both sister-in-laws, 2 cousins, and my wife teach. MT: What is your favorite thing to do outside of school? MG: When I’m not at school, I like to play drums, listen to music, read, write, coach soccer, ski, and camp.

Most students think that school is hard and difficult, and it can be if you don’t take the necessary precautions to make it easy for you.

My friend, make sure that you are organized. Now I am talking more than just a binder here, I am talk-ing more like you backpack, your locker, and so on.

This is going to sound kind of stupid. For you to get credit for the assignment, you are going to actu-ally have to do it. The process is simple. When you’re in class instead of visiting with your friends and playing the social butterfly role, sit down, get working, and don’t goof around! I swear it works!! Trust me on this!

Teachers are going to nail you to the wall about this kind of stuff. It drives the teachers crazy when you don’t come to your classes prepared and continue to sit there while everybody else is working on something pro-ductive, there you are sitting there like a moron get absolutely nothing done. That’s when the teachers are going to have a problem.

Remind yourself when you have an up coming quiz. STUDY!!!! It will save your life; I promise you. Make some flash cards, do something fun. It will make your life a whole lot simpler!

This is something that you hear from everyone and I think it’s probably the easiest step of all. Eat some breakfast. It gives you the energy you need to do all the steps listed above.

MG: Well my dream job is to write

novels during the day and be in a rock

band at night.

MT: What’s the craziest thing you

have ever done?

MG: Once when I was your age, I

snuck out of the house and it started

hailing and my friend fell and broke

his arm.

MT: What is the weirdest place you

have ever been?

MG: Amsterdam is by the weirdest

place I’ve ever been.

MT: Do you have children?

MG: Yes, I have a freshman daugh-

ter, a son in 5th grade, and a son in

3rd grade.

MT: What was your first car?

MG: My first car was so ugly, It

was a hatchback and was a deep,

sparkly, copper color, but it got me

where I needed to be.

MT: What are your hopes for Mendive? MG: Well . . . The first is to be aca-demically successful. The second is that we respect each other and have no more bullying.

Cross country has just ended and we have the inside story on the meets. After interviewing one of the athletes performing in the cross country meets, Stormy Grennan gave us the heads up on what practice is like. Stormy informed us,” To begin the practice we run a half mile followed by our practice meet run and finishing up with 25 sit ups.” After asking her about what the hardest thing in cross country was, she smiled slightly and said,” We run up to 6 scenics and they mark us off as we run.” Her advice to everyone is,” Just give it a shot, don’t give up and keep pushing.” So, next year before the ground freezes over and you are unmotivated to do any physical activity, come watch or participate in a cross-country competition.
