EQUIPMENTThe playing court is a rectangular surface free from obstructionswith sidelines 94 feet in length and end lines 50 feet in length, measuredfrom the inside edges. The goal must be ten feet above the ground.
RULES
College basketball games are played in two halves of 20 minutes each with a halftime intermission of 15 minutes. The team with the most points at the end of this time wins the game. If there is a tie at the end of the second half, an extra period of five minutes will be given, following the same rules.
• Each team can have five players on the floor at a time.
• Players are not allowed to walk with the ball, they must dribble and cannot dribble a second time until after passing the ball to one of their teammates. Any case of this gives the opposing team possession of the ball.
• When a player is being substituted he/she must check in at the scorer’s table and wait for a dead ball or until the referees are acknowledged there is a substitution.
• A player shall not hold, push, charge, trip or impede the progress of an opponent by extend-ing arm(s), shoulder(s), hip(s) or knee(s) or by bending his or her own body into other than a normal position; nor use any unreasonably rough tactics.
• When a player is fouled he/she is allowed to shoot free throws; the foul itself determines how many free throws the player will get.
• Players are only allowed five fouls per game. If the player excedes five fouls he/she must be taken out of the game.
POSITIONS: Point Guard: calls players and brings the ball down the court setting up an offense Shooting Guard: shoots the ball well and is usually known as the team’s best scorer Small Forward: good at both scoring and ball handling Power Forward: known for rebounding and defense Center/Post: known for their height as well as blocking shots and scoring

Matt Newgent begins his eighth season as head coach for the Cougar baseball team and also serves as Athletic Director. Under Newgent’s guidance the Cougar’s have been ranked each of the last four seasons, and as high as a #2 national ranking in 2008. Since Coach Newgent’s arrival seven years ago, the program has again regained its prominence nationally. Newgent and his staff spent the 2009 off-season continuing a renovation of the Cougar baseball facility, while continuing to recruit quality student-athletes to ensure continued success for the program.
Newgent began his collegiate athletic career at Redlands Community College as a catcher under former coach, Don Brown. During that season the Cougars went to the NJCAA World Series in Millington, Tennessee, where they finished fourth. After leaving RCC, Newgent completed his collegiate playing experience at the University of Indianapolis. His collegiate accolades include all tournament catcher honors at the NJCAA World Series, two-time member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) All-Conference Team and Academic All-Conference Team, NCAA North Central Region Team, and Most Valuable Player during his senior season at the University of Indianapolis.
Prior to coaching at RCC, Newgent served as Assistant Baseball Coach at Olney Central Community College in Olney, Illinois, where they finished with a record of 40-20 and a trip to the Region 24 Tournament. He was also the Assistant Baseball Coach at the University of Indianapolis for three seasons and helped guide the team to a third place finish in the NCAA Division II World Series in 2000, and a school best 51-15 record in 2001.
Newgent is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association. He earned his Associate of Arts from Redlands Community College in 1997, his Bachelor of Arts in History in 1999, and his Master of Business Administration in 2002 from the University of Indianapolis. Coach Newgent, a native of Piedmont, now resides in Yukon with his wife Christa and their son, Ian.

Yaphett King enters his third season as Redlands Men’s Head Basketball Coach. King’s first year at Redlands he led the Cougars to a 13-17 record. King’s second year he led the Cougars to 14-16 record.
King began his collegiate playing career at Redlands in 2002. That year, his team won the NJCAA Div. II national championship. King averaged 15.6 points and 7.6 rebounds as a freshman when Redlands won the national title and he made the all-tournament team and was selected as an All-American.
Coach King then went on to Cal-State Fullerton where he helped take the Titans to post season play for the first time in 15 years by advancing to the sweet 16 of the National Invite Tournament. Coach King played professionally in Austria where his team moved from the second division to first division and won the middle playoffs.
After playing professionally, King came back and assisted the 2007 Redlands Men’s Basketball team. They finished the season as regional runner-up, had a 31-2 season record and saw seven players go to division one programs. The following year King accepted an assistant coaching position and assisted Cowley College in Kansas to go 31-2 in route to the Regional Championship Game. That team saw four players advance to division one programs.
“Becoming the Head Coach at Redlands was something that I always wanted to do, anytime you have a chance to take over your Alma Mater you want to make sure you do the best job you can and hopefully you can have the same success as coach as you did as player.”

Crumbley graduated from FAU with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2004 and played internationally in Mexico for a year following the completion of his collegiate career - where he played in each of the Owls’ 118 games during his time on campus. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native enjoyed a standout career at FAU, finishing as the school’s all-time leading scorer (1,559 points) while becoming only the fourth player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points in a career. He also holds the school records for assists in a career (505), 3-pointers made (286) and steals (181). Crumbley ranked eighth in assists and 17th in scoring in the Atlantic Sun Conference record books at the conclusion of his career.

While at UCO,Wrice earned Co-Freshman Defensive Player of the Year in the Long Star North Division Conference. Coach Wrice finished his collegiate basketball career at Texas Wesleyan, averaging 5.4 points and 9.1 assists per game.
Coach Wrice has his Bachelors of Science in Mass Communications and a minor degree in Kinesiology. In addition to being an assistant basketball coach for the Cougars, Wrice also runs a small business as a personal trainer in Oklahoma City.
The story of the Redlands Cougar is shrouded in mystery. The Cougar first appeared as the official Redlands mascot post-1970. Prior to that Redland’s (originally called El Reno Junior College) mascot was the Chieftain, which was cho-sen to correspond with El Reno High School’s mascot, the Indian. Now, this elusive nameless cat can occasionally be spotted around campus. Be On The Lookout!

SEASON
OUTLOOK“In my first two years at Redlands we were known for having a scoring offense. The focus for the 2010-11 season has been on rebounding and defense.” Coach King looks forward to this year’s season as he and his staff feel like “they are equipped with the personnel to compete for a conference title.”
Marin Zelalija, from Crotia, is the only returning player from the 2009-10 season. In the previous season Zelalija was counted on for his outside shooting ability. Coach King expects Zelalija “to play defense and keep knocking down open shots.”
Several players were red shirted the past season at Redlands and Coach King is expecting leadership on and off the court from this group of men: Nurideen Lindsey is 6’4”, 185 lbs. from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Joy Williamson is 6’4”, 190 lbs. from Oklahoma City. Ronnie Hishaw is 6’6”, 320 lbs. from Oklahoma City. Deshun Garrett is 6’3”, 205 lbs. from Houston, Texas.
Devonté Young is 5’10”, 165 lbs. from Washington DC and Myron Dempsey is 6’5”, 220 lbs. from St. Petersburg, both transfers to the Redlands basketball program. Coach King is expecting these players to bring some experience to the court for the team.
The incoming group of freshman will be expected to play a lot of minutes and be ready to go come conference time. Gary Inglett is 6’6”, 200 lbs. from Ardmore, Oklahoma. T.J.. Jordan is 6’6”, 240 lbs. from Choctaw, Oklahoma. Dustin Giles is 6’4”, 170 lbs. from Oklahoma City. Greg Womack is 6’5”, 185 lbs. from Edmond, Oklahoma. George Jackson, Jr. is 6’7”, 205 lbs. from Houston, Texas.
The team motto this season is, “Anytime you challenge a warrior, a warrior is going to respond.” – Ray Lewis. “I feel like I have some warriors,” says Coach King.
