What is mentoring?

3

Mentoring consists essentially in connecting 2 persons, where the experienced one is providing support, encouragement and guidance to the other.

As the concept of “experience” is only relative to a particular field or environment, it paves the way for cross mentoring where the 2 persons are alternatively embracing the roles of Mentor & Mentee.

In the digital area it is not uncommon, and often very rewarding, to implement reverse mentoring where a junior person provides guidance to a more senior one in the use of new equipment, software and social media.

What the mentee is expecting from you is:

•To be present and focused on him and his development needs•To provide feedback and guidance to answer questions or to make choice•To be a facilitator (when it is possible), to help him access resources and information, connect with useful persons,…
