ABOUT MENTORSHIPHOW IT’S GONNA WORK

Technical mentors will be paired with business mentors, and each pair is as-signed to four competing teams. Please find your pair and team allocation on page 8 of this package. (If you have time, you’re more than welcome to check out the teams you’re not assigned to!)

Here at BizHacks, you can provide mentorship to the participants in various ways, such as:

• Proposing business problems that the teams can work on• Offering feedback on the teams’ product ideas and execution• Recommending useful tools/resources• Helping the teams with their product pitch

Most importantly, you’re here to motivate and inspire. For many partici-pants, BizHacks may be their first competitive hackathon (we can only imag-ine how intense and tough non-stop 24-hour hacking must be!); your words of encouragement would go a long way in helping them get to the finish line (and we’re sure that even the veteran hackers would appreciate your sup-port just as much). We count on you to make our dream come true: to em-power the participants to be the best hackers they can be!

We are opening a world of possibilities by simplifying the home improvement industry. In October 1999, BuildDirect co-founders Jeff Booth and Rob Banks had a vision. Their vision was to simplify the home improvement industry and give the power of choice back to the homeowner. They wanted to provide those seeking to build or im-prove their homes with an online marketplace to access the products they wanted, at the prices they’d love, and deliver them on time and directly to their doorstep.

And today we do just that.Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, BuildDirect is the world’s largest online mar-ketplace for home improvement products. We connect homeowners directly to the suppliers of home improvement products, which eliminates heavy retail markups and makes for a much simpler and trusted shopping experience.
