    PARISH LIFE

Steubenville South / Life Teen CampIt is that time of year again where life-changing conferences and camps are o6ered for our high schoolers! For the past 20 years, the Steubenville South Conferences (June 26-28 Alexandria, LA) has served over 70,000 youth of our region, helping them to find the true love of God in Jesus Christ. Camp Hidden Lake is a week-long Catholic summer camp located in scenic Dahlonega, Georgia (July 26-August 2). It is a place where parish youth groups from all over the country come together to dive deeper into their Catholic faith and strengthen their relationship with Christ, while having unforgettable experiences.

With prayerful consideration, we encourage you to sponsor a high schooler for either the Steubenville South Conference or Camp Hidden Lake. While any donation is greatly appreciated, we ask that you would consider a donation of $250 for the Steubenville South Conference and $500 for Camp Hidden Lake. We also ask that you would keep us in prayer, entrusting us to the Immaculate Heart and Merciful Heart of Our Lady.

    SISTER EUGENIA BONETTI

Sr. Eugenia Bonetti will speak at the 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm Masses on Saturday, May 9th thanking you, our faithful parishioners, for the support you showed her last year during her mission’s garage sale.

Sr. Eugenia is an Italian Consolata Missionary Sister who performed missionary work in Kenya for 24 years. In 1991 she returned to Italy and was later appointed to work with immigrant women. It was at this time, she learned of the plight of thousands of women who were forced into the horrific trade of human tradcking.

As the Coordinator of the Counter-Tradcking Odce for Women and Children, Sr. Eugenia spearheaded a network of over 250 religious women from 80 di6erent congregations who have opened 110 convents and houses to shelter and assist the victims of human tradcking. Her network extends to over 30 countries and works in the prevention, rehabilitation, and protection of victims and their families as well as the repatriation and reintegration of the victims back to their homeland.

If you are interested in supporting Sr. Eugenia’s mission in combating human tradcking, donations will be accepted through the collection basket at all Masses the weekend of May 9 and 10. Please mark the envelope CONSOLATA MISSIONARY SISTERS. Donations will also be accepted through the church odce. For more information about the Mission, contact Ms. Elba Alexander, [email protected].

    ADORATION CHAPEL

    SAINT OF THE WEEK

    St. Catherine of Siena (1347-1380)

    FEAST DAY: April 29

:e value Catherine makes central in her short life and which sounds clearly and consistently through her experience is complete surrender to Christ. What is most impressive about her is that she learns to view her surrender to her Lord as a goal to be reached through time.

She was the 23rd child of Jacopo and Lapa Benincasa and grew up as an intelligent, cheerful and intensely religious person. Catherine disappointed her mother by cutting oT her hair as a protest against being overly encouraged to improve her appearance in order to attract a husband. Her father ordered her to be leU in peace, and she was given a room of her own for prayer and meditation.

She entered the Dominican :ird Order at 18 and spent the next three years in seclusion, prayer and austerity. Gradually a group of followers gathered

around her—men and women, priests and religious. An active public apostolate grew out of her contemplative life. Her letters, mostly for spiritual instruction and encouragement of her followers, began to take more and more note of public aTairs. Opposition and slander resulted from her mixing fearlessly with the world and speaking with the candor and authority of one completely committed to Christ.

Catherine ranks high among the mystics and spiritual writers of the Church. In 1939, she and Francis of Assisi were declared co-patrons of Italy. Paul VI named her and Teresa of Avila doctors of the Church in 1970. Her spiritual testament is found in :e Dialogue.
