Robert Morris (17-8-3) at No. 5/6 Mercyhurst (21-6-2); Mercyhurst at Robert Morris Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 / Mercyhurst Ice Center - Erie, Pa. / 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 / RMU Island Sports Center - Pittsburgh, Pa. / 7:05 p.m. Series at a Glance Overall: 1-29-0 At Home: 0-14-0 At Mercyhurst: 1-12-0 Neutral: 0-3-0 Top Story RMU enters the weekend in need of three points to capture its first CHA regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the league tournament. Rookie Rebecca Vint broke the Colonials’ single-season goals and single-season assist records last weekend against Niagara. Robert Morris swept the CHA’s weekly awards this past week with Thea Imbrogno, Vint and Kristen DiCiocco taking home honors. Series vs. Mercyhurst In these two teams’ last meeting Jan. 21, Thea Imbrogno scored with just 53 seconds remaining in regulation to cap a furious comeback as Robert Morris stunned Mercyhurst with a pair of goals in the final three minutes to claim a thrilling, 3-2, road victory, ending the Lakers’ 28-game conference unbeaten streak. In his first season at the helm, head coach Paul Colontino, a former member of the Lakers’ staff, led Robert Morris to its first-ever victory over national powerhouse Mercyhurst in the program’s young history. RMU led 1-0 for much of the game before both teams provided a flurry of scoring action in the third period. The Colonials also held the Lakers’ power play to an 0-for-7 mark for the game. Scouting Mercyhurst Mercyhurst enters the weekend in a familiar spot as the Lakers are nationally ranked and sport a bevy of top performers. The Lakers have demonstrated an ability to knock off other top teams as they have compiled a 6-3 mark this season against other squads which are ranked or receiving votes nationally, including wins over both No. 3 Cornell and No. 4 Boston College. The Lakers rank second nationally in scoring offense, averaging over 4.7 goals per game. Senior Bailey Bram has tallied 25 goals and 37 assists in just 27 games to average 2.3 points per game, a figure which ranks second in the nation. Bram leads a quartet of Lakers that all rank among the top 20 nationally in points per game as sophomore Christine Bestland (1.86), senior Kelley Steadman (1.59) and senior Jess Jones (1.55) all follow behind Bram. Mercyhurst has been especially lethal on the power play as the Lakers sport the top unit in the country, converting on nearly 30 percent of their man-advantage opportunities. Mercyhurst also has a solid base between the pipes as Hillary Pattenden is just two wins shy of becoming the first goaltender in NCAA history to reach 100 career wins. 2011-12 WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time SEPT. 23 (Fri.)
