They expect every commercial vehicle to be properly equipped for winter, and if they find you driving a commercial vehicle through mountain passes without proper tires or chains, you could face a $128 fine, and they'll turn you back. Winter tires or chains are mandatory for commercial vehicles from Oct. 1- Apr. 30, wherever there is a sign that indicates use winter tires or carry chains beyond this point. About 250 of these warning signs are prominent in moun- tainous terrain throughout the province. Drivers of commercial vehicles can expect increased enforcement through- out the winter, especially on the moun- tainous routes: Hwy 1 Revelstoke to the Alberta border, Hwy 5 Merritt to Hope, Hwy 5A Merritt to Kamloops, Hwy 16 McBride to the Alberta border, and Hwy 97 Cache Creek to Prince George Know before you go, and get up to date hwy conditions at www.drivebc.ca. or on Twitter at twitter.com/tranbc. BC manu- facturers & exporters are shipping near- ly $9.5 million more i n goods every day in 2010 to int’l markets compared with last year. And Export Development Canada says BC's positive export cli- mate is expected to continue. So far in 2010, BC-origin export s total $23.8 billion, up by $2.88 billion or near- ly 14% compared with last year's pace. Export gains have been recorded in: energy products (up 18%); forestry products (up 19%); agricultural & fish- ing products (up 2%); industrial goods (up 22 %); and consumer goods (up 5%).
