A RETROSPECTIVE OF THE ARTWORK OF

    EXHIBITION

    July 2 - 31, 2010

    RECEPTION

    July 9, 6-8pm

    New chief adminis-trative officer

The City of Merritt may not yet haveannounced their selection for new CAO,

but Swift Current, Sk is saying goodbyeto theirs and hes headed here

As of Aug. 16, Swift Current chiefadministrative officer Matt Noble will

bid adieu to the city he has proudlyserved so well (for the past 8 years).Noble has accepted another CAO posi-tion in Merritt, B.C. a city just shy of7,600 people located at the heart of the

    beautiful Nicola Valley.

Theres only so many opportuni-ties that come around in a lifetime. TheCity of Merritt has some needs at thistime, and it just so happens that theskills that I possess match their needs. The timing is right, he said.

    Swift Current Prairie Post

Pine beetle to peakin Merritt in 2011

The mountain pine beetle epidemicwill have cost B.C. 11,250 direct jobs bythe time it runs its course, according to anew study by credit union economists.

Central 1 Credit Union analyzedforests ministry data that project theimpact of the BC Interior's worst record-ed infestation will continue until 2028.The beetle kill peaked in 2005 in thePrince George, Quesnel and Vanderhoofareas, and in 2006 in the Cariboo andKamloops regions.

It has spread to the east and southand is expected to peak this year in theRobson Valley, southeast of PrinceGeorge. Infestation is expected to peakin 2011 in the Dawson Creek and Merritttimber management areas, followed bythe Arrow, Bulkley and Fort St. Johnareas in 2012.

By 2024, it is projected that 68% ofthe province's mature pine will have

been killed by beetles, representing 20 %of BC's total timber harvest land base.

The study found that another 9,500indirect jobs are related to the forest har-vest slump that is underway. Howmany of those jobs disappear depends

largely on the growth in mining, energyand transportation in each region.

Golden Anniversary An aged farmer and his wife were leaning against the edge oftheir pig-pen when the old woman wistfully recalled that the next week would marktheir golden wedding anniversary. "Let's have a party, Homer," she suggested."Let's kill a pig." The farmer scratched his grizzled head. "Gee, Ethel," he finallyanswered, "I don't see why the pig should take the blame for something that hap-pened fifty years ago."
