Homeless CountASK Wellness Centre will be conduct-
ing their 2nd annual Homeless Count inthe Merritt area, today. ASK employeesand a team of community volunteers will
be out with a survey of questions that willbe asked to people that may be homeless.ASK Kamloops has brought donations toshare with the ASK Merritt office andgive out to the homeless population. TheHelping Hands Society generouslydonated bags of essential items, SurplusHerbie's of Kamloops has donated cloth-ing, and a monetary donation from theCity of Kamloops has helped to purchase
items for the bags. ASK truly appreciatesall the donations and volunteers thatmake this Homeless Count day possible.
Last year during the Homeless Count,27 people disclosed that they didnt havea home. ASK offered housing outreachservices to those who disclosed they werehomeless or at-risk of becoming home-less. Several people were housed, andcontinue to seek housing outreach sup-ports. ASK's model is: "Housing First",as secure and sustainable housing is partof healthcare. Sibling stabbingYesterday morning, just after 8:30,
Merritt RCMP responded to a report of astabbing at Grandview Heights. On atten-dance, a man was located immediately andtaken into custody without incident. Thevictim, the sister of the accused, was locat-ed with a stab wound to her neck, andtaken to hospital where she is reported to
be in stable condition. The suspect, a 33-year old man visiting from San Diego, is
being held in custody for court appearance.The incident is still under investigation.

This transition has been tough on allof us, my family, friends, and co-workers.It is now 1 year coming up from the daywhen I had my transplant. A process like
this usually takes longer in some casesbut, thankfully the match was perfect formy mom and me to have a successfulkidney transplant. Since I received thetransplanted kidney from my mother, myhealth has improved rapidly and Ireturned to work full-time at the Ministryof Children & Family Devt in HazeltonBC, and also furthering my educationwith a Masters in Social Work.
I would sincerely like to thank mymom for being so brave and loving bygiving me a second chance at life withno hesitation. I would also like to thankmy 2 beautiful children Amber & JosephPhillips-Garcia for being so strong, andunderstanding during those times, Ilove you and thank-you my babes.
I am also pleased to announce my
