My dear Brothers and Sisters in our Newborn King,

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

In 2020 and always, and everywhere, may God give us all "20/20 vision" - the perfect vision of himself and of ourselves in relation to him to whom we belong! Please ponder and enjoy this sermon from Pope St Leo the Great (400 - 461) the theme of which is "Christian remember your dignity." It's a wonderful reflection on Christmas and at the same time a goal for the New Year!

On behalf of Fr Dave, Fr Ben, Fr Paul, Deacon Jim, Br Leland and myself, Merry Christmas and Happy new Year! – Fr Jeremy OMV

"Dearly beloved, today our Saviour is born; let us rejoice. Sadness should have no place on the birthday of life. The fear of death has been swallowed up; life brings us joy with the promise of eternal happiness.

No one is shut out from this joy; all share the same reason for rejoicing. Our Lord, victor over sin and death, finding no man free from sin, came to free us all. Let the saint rejoice as he sees the palm of victory at hand. Let the sinner be glad as he receives the offer of forgiveness. Let the pagan take courage as he is summoned to life.

In the fullness of time, chosen in the unfathomable depths of God’s wisdom, the Son of God took for himself our common humanity in order to reconcile it with its creator. He came to overthrow the devil, the origin of death, in that very nature by which he had overthrown mankind.

And so at the birth of our Lord the angels sing in joy: Glory to God in the highest, and they proclaim peace to men of good will as they see the heavenly Jerusalem being built from all the nations of the world. When the angels on high are so exultant at this marvellous work of God’s goodness, what joy should it not bring to the lowly hearts of men?

Beloved, let us give thanks to God the Father, through his Son, in the Holy Spirit, because in his great love for us he took pity on us, and when we were dead in our sins he brought us to life with Christ, so that in him we might be a new creation. Let us throw off our old nature and all its ways and, as we have come to birth in Christ, let us renounce the works of the flesh.

Christian, remember your dignity, and now that you share in God’s own nature, do not return by sin to your former base condition. Bear in mind who is your head and of whose body you are a member. Do not forget that you have been rescued from the power of darkness and brought into the light of God’s kingdom.

Through the sacrament of baptism you have become a temple of the Holy Spirit. Do not drive away so great a guest by evil conduct and become again a slave to the devil, for your liberty was bought by the blood of Christ."

THE FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILYFocus: God is at the heart of all Christian families.

Today we celebrate and recognize the Holy Family – Jesus, Mary and Joseph – as the model of all Christian families. Saint Joseph set a good example for all of us as his family faced the crisis of Herod’s plot to kill Jesus: He listened to God’s voice and cared for his family according to the word of God.

Sirach writes about family relationships and duties, especially that of honoring one’s parents all the days of their lives. Paul instructs the Colossians on how to love one another and live for Christ. In the Gospel, Joseph follows the instructions of the angels who led him safely into, and out of, Egypt.

PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITHSECTION ONE - "I BELIEVE" - "WE BELIEVE"

Man’s Response To God / I Believe – The Obedience of Faith

149. To believe in God alone

Faith is first of all a personal adherence of man to God. At the same time, and inseparably, it is a free assent to the whole truth that God has revealed. As personal adherence to God and assent to his truth, Christian faith differs from our faith in any human person. It is right and just to entrust oneself wholly to God and to believe absolutely what he says. It would be futile and false to place such faith in a creature.17

That Man Is You is currently on Winter break. We will meet once again on Saturday, January 18th beginning at 6:30am. We wish

you all a Merry Christmas!

OUR 2ND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND WILL BE FOR THE ST. MARY’S CAPITAL FUND

PARISH OFFICE CLOSINGIn observance of New Years’ Day, the Parish Office will close at 3:30pm on Monday, December 30th and will reopen at 8:00am on Friday, January 3rd. Overcoming Spiritual DiscouragementFEBRUARY 15, 2020 | 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

With warmth, understanding, and pastoral skill, Fr. Timothy Gallagher, OMV provides a hopeful invitation to all who struggle to overcome the greatest obstacle in the spiritual life: discouragement. You will learn practical ways to find peace amid your spiritual struggles, and patience in the face of even the most intense trials. In these talks, Fr. Gallagher will explore the spiritual teaching of Venerable Bruno Lanteri, founder of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary, whose wisdom guided many out of discouragement and into new hope. There is no shame in spiritual

desolation. Fr. Gallagher reminds us that the greatest of saints suffered from this affliction. The key is to learn how to draw closer to God in life’s darkest moments. Overcoming Spiritual Discouragement is a call to hope... a call to solace in time of suffering... and a call to stand tall in times of affliction. Learn how to enter into the sublime peace and joy that our Lord promises.
