Principal’s Message

Dear Mesa Families,

Happy November this week! It’s hard to believe that time is flying by so quickly.

Our TK-5 Student Leadership is inviting TK-5 students to dress up with crazy socks and crazy shoes on Halloween day (Tuesday). It’s a “knees-and-below” Halloween dress-up Spirit Day! It’s especially hard to dress up from your

knees down only, so let’s see how creative you can be.

Thank you, families, for coming out to Sharky’s last week for Restaurant Night in Camarillo and Oxnard. It was a fun event, and Sharky’s has already informed the PFO that they’ll be donating $400 to the Mesa PFO for the event—wow!

Speaking of thanks, thanks to our PFO for funding and planning the Red Ribbon Week activities last week. Your student should have brought home a red bracelet and a red pencil last week. Did you see the pledge poster hanging in the cafeteria? Here’s a couple of photos.

Speaking of thanks- #2, I want to thank Mesa music teacher Mr. Goad for his first ever day of Coffee Concerts last Friday. Here, his music students performed a 20 minute quick concert to show off the skills that they have learned, and it’s amazing to see how far his students have come in just two months. The PFO provided hospitality for the event—thank you!

This Friday evening, starting at 5:30pm in the cafeteria, is our first PFO Family Movie Night of the year. We’ll be showing the animated film Hotel Transylvania. These are always low-key events that are fun for the entire family, and it’s free. Free hot dogs, free drinks, free popcorn, free cotton candy, free movie, free collegiately between the families. I’ll be there, and I hope you will too. See the attached flyer.

Wednesday is our “Learning Wednesday” professional development for teachers and staff after school. This week, we’ll be meeting with our credentialed school nurse, Mrs. Michelle Olson, to talk and learn about important student health matters that could involve staff at school like using the Epi-Pen, understanding lice, understanding diabetes, and effectively dealing with bloody noses. We have this meeting with the nurse once a year.

I want to remind everyone about days off school in November, so you can plan your family trips accordingly and not miss any school. My expectation is that every child is in school every day that school is in session unless there is an illness or urgent matter to attend to. In November, there is no school on Friday, November 10th in observance of Veterans Day. We will also have our fall Thanksgiving break with no school Monday through Friday, November 20th to 24th.

And finally, I wanted to tell you that our annual Holiday Wreath Sale has begun. Your child will be bringing home the information today (or maybe last Friday). The holiday wreaths are very nice and fresh, and I enjoyed it hanging in my house for nearly a month last December and am looking forward to that again this year. Thanks to our Mesa

Education Foundation for sponsoring this timely fundraiser as we approach the winter season. See the flyer attached.

Calurosamente Dr. Bluestein.

Mesa Sports Update The 7/8 Volleyball Team had a win over Colonia on Monday, but took a loss to Santa Rosa Tech on Wednesday in a hard-fought battle all the way to Set 3. The 6th grade team took it home in 2 straight sets on Wednesday over Rio Vista.

Due to the heat, the Jr High Flag Football games were cancelled this week. On Saturday, the 5th grade won their game. Unfortunately, both the 3/4 team and the 6th grade teams lost their games.

Want to come support our tiger athletes? There are PLENTY of opportunities!! Be sure to come

Thank you all for your support of Carnival 2017! Thank you to all the room parents who sent emails, reminders, and coordinated booth sign-ups. Thank you to all the parents who worked in booths throughout the evening. Thank you to the brave souls who volunteered their time in the Dunk Tank! Thank you, Mesa families and friends who came out to support and enjoy the evening with your Mesa community. A special shout-out to the many high school volunteers from ACE Charter School and Rio Mesa High School CSF, Key Club, and WE:IB. This was our first time reaching out and coordinating with these high schools for help and they really did come through for us. They were truly appreciative of the opportunity and enjoyed interacting with our Mesa tigers. Please email [email protected] if you have any feedback to give regarding the high school volunteers. Planning for this one night event takes several months and countless hours put in by several volunteers. We thank you for your time and patience. Every year we look to improve this event, learning some things that work and some things that don’t work so well. We’re not perfect, but what we are is a group of dedicated volunteer parents and individuals who work hard and do the best we can. We value both your feedback and your help. We can always use help! If you are interested in helping us plan for next year’s carnival, please email us at [email protected] It truly is a team effort and we’d love to have you join us! : And lastly, congratulations to all of the raffle and silent auction winners! We are happy to report all the silent auction items have been paid for, but they have not all been picked up. If you were notified you were a raffle winner or you need to pick up your silent auction items, please email us at [email protected] so we can arrange a time for you to receive your items. Raffle items not picked up by the end of this week will be used for future PFO events.

Big congratulations to our Grand Prize Winners!
