Finish What You Start
During my most recent pack and move, as I was unpacking some
of my sewing resources and finding a home for them, I realised
that I had a lot of unfinished projects. We call them UFO’s in the
quilting world. Un-Finished Objects…
I made a promise to myself that this year would be the year of
finishing things; projects that have lain dormant for some forgotten
reason, awaiting the final binding, or some block to be re-made,
or maybe I had just run out of inspiration to get it done, or even
something more interesting has caught my creative interest. They
languish in the boxes, unfinished, but they seem to have grown in
number too!
Gordon McDonald, in his book A Resilient Life, says that a sign of a
resilient person is one who finishes what one starts. Do you have
‘unfinished projects’ lying around? They might not be necessarily
an actual project, but promises you made to yourself, with God in
mind, to see something through to completion. Or maybe there
was something you resolved to do in your ministry but haven’t
quite gotten around to. Do you make excuses for not finishing
things? You’ll get around to it one day?
The apostle Paul says: One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind
and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to
win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ
Jesus. (Phil. 3:13-14)
I am pleased to report that I have finished three quilts so far this
year! But the Holy Spirit has prompted me to bring to completion
some other areas of my life, so that I can continue to be resilient in
my life and ministry.
I pray the same for you too.
Abundant Blessings,
Jennifer Stringer (Captain)

RURAL CHAPLAINS REPORT
PASTORAL MINISTRY
Most of our visitation takes us to places where the
farmers are happy to have had much needed rain
and are hoping for even more. Some farmers had
dry planted crops and were pleased to see the rain
reward their efforts.
The rising cost of fuel and utilities is still a major
concern for farmers. We have visited folk who have
energy accounts in excess of $10,000. There are
many farmers under huge financial pressure and a
couple will possibly lose their farms before Christmas.
Some have had major health concerns and have
had to visit Dubbo or Orange for specialist
appointments.
We were able to host a number of farmers at the
quarters for meals or a cuppa the few days we were
home in June. Two farmers returned to their
properties after major surgery and we made a visit
to “Moyne” in Canowindra to visit a farmer who has
terminal cancer.
Much of our visitation has been in the Parkes, Forbes
area and between Warren and Quambone.
We had two emergency call outs to folk in distress
due to an accident and a suicide. We have been
able to give 12 farmers to date a Winter Linen Pack
and these gifts have been most appreciated,
especially the new pillows and blankets.

PRAYER REQUEST
Commissioner James Condon
has requested your prayer
support for the coming High
Council - commencing
29th July 2013.
118 of our leaders from around the world will meet
in London to elect the 20th General of The
Salvation Army.
To guide you in your praying, mySalvos will feature
a new prayer theme and guide each day from
15th July. You will find this at www.my.salvos.org.au
Could corps officers and leaders please announce
this in your meetings to make people aware it is
available?
For corps officers or those leading worship in
centres we will provide a five minute creative
prayer segment praying for the High Council. This is
for use in your meeting on 28th July. This will be sent
out next week.
Please join us and pray.

HEALTH UPDATE
Major Diana Harris is about to commence a stem
cell transplant at Royal North Shore hospital. The
cancer that she has is so aggressive that doctors
have decided to employ this very aggressive
treatment. It commences on the 29th July. Prayers
for Diana and the effectiveness of this treatment
would be appreciated.
Lt Colonel Wes Kinder is recovering in RPA hospital
following spinal surgery and ICU over the past
weekend. The family are very appreciative of the
prayer support and request your continued
prayer. Wes is in 8 West 2, Bed 6 and welcomes
visitors within RPA visiting hours. We praise God for
His presence, healing, grace and strength for
Wes, Mae and the family (Major Paul
Kinder/Rockdale Corps, Captain Lindon
Kinder/Hurstville Corps, Bernice and Merrilyn).
Major Brian Wilson has come through open heart
surgery and doctors are pleased with Brian’s
progress. Brian was in ICU in Norwest hospital and
is doing well. Your ongoing prayer support is
greatly appreciated.
Major Ruth Fischle has been discharged from
hospital and the procedure appears to have
been successful. Please continue to pray for Ruth
and Barry.
Please pray for Major Jan Fraser who is seriously ill
and would be very appreciative of your prayer
support at this time.
Major David Hodges is returning to hospital for a
medical procedure. David, Coral and the family
would value your prayer.
BIRTH
Congratulations to Adam Cole (Queensland
State SAES Coordinator) and his wife Michelle on
the birth of their first child. Their son, who is yet to
be named, was born at 3.14 pm on Tuesday 9
July at Warwick Hospital weighing 7lb 4oz. All
three are doing well! May God continue to bless
them abundantly.
PROMOTED TO GLORY
Captain Mark Williamson (Taree Corps) has been
bereaved of his grandmother, Linda Toft of
Bundaberg Corps. Linda was Promoted to Glory
at 4am, Wednesday 17th July - two days after her
95th birthday. Major Jean Evans and Lt Colonel
Elaine Hood are nieces. A thanksgiving service will
be held at the citadel in Bundaberg at 3pm on
Sunday 21st July 2013.
ICO Delegate
Major Robyn Smartt (Salvos Counselling) recently
travelled to London to attend the 218th session at
International College for Officers. Each session
involves 26 delegates from around the world who
come together for an eight week sabbatical period
that offers opportunity for spiritual renewal, study and
reflection. Please remember Robyn, Howard, Matthew
and Chris in your prayers.
DIVISIONAL ENVOYS
On Sunday 15th July, Envoys Darren and Belinda
Cardwell’s service to The Salvation Army (together
with their daughter Rebecca) was acknowledged at
Tuggerah Lakes Corps. Darren and Belinda have
decided to move on. We are appreciative of their
dedicated service and pray God’s blessing on them
in the days to come.
STOLEN FUEL CARDS
In recent months we have had an issue with a fuel
card being stolen from one of our vehicles. It appears
that the pin number for the fuel card was also
accessible in the vehicle; therefore nearly $40,000 of
fuel was stolen in a very short period of time.
Could all managers or officers that are responsible for
a pool vehicle, bus or truck, please check with your
drivers that the pin number is not in any way available
with the fuel card in the vehicle.
