OUR PERFORMANCE SO FAR Much has been mentioned of the Group’s business performance andexpectation in the previous messages, and most recently in the Company’sAnnual Report. But we cannot stop emphasizing the need for better effortsand higher productivity in order to improve the performance of the Group.

The full report of the Group’sperformance for year 2011 wascommendable in that wemanaged to be profitable for a12th consecutive year since1999. This is no easy feat. 2011profit before tax of RM25.8million increased by 83% ascompared to RM14.1 million inthe previous year. Shareholders’equity also increased by 15% toRM129.0 million in comparisonto 2010 which stood atRM110.0 million. This is againstthe backdrop that our turnoverfor the last two years has verymuch been construction driven.

But the Management feelsstrongly that this can beimproved on with more genuineefforts and resources put intoimplementation of projects.Whether the Group can sustainits profitability path depends onimprovement of our presentworking system which includesplanning, strategizing, executionand management of daily workswhile supported by dedicatedleadership, teamwork and apleasant working environment.

ON-GOING AND FUTURE PROJECTS For the ongoing works, I have been repeatedly reminding all project teamsto work diligently and effectively to ensure that project milestones andtargets are met without compromising on the quality and safety standardsrequired at all times. We look forward to completion of several projects thisyear including the Mayland Regalia Apartment, PGA Camp in Muar, Pulapol,Plaza Merdeka, the Haven in Ipoh and the Abstract Condominium inBangkok.

With projects such as KLIA 2 and LRT Ampang Packages putting our Groupat the forefront of the construction industry, it is imperative that we deliverthese two landmark projects successfully. Although we have not securedany new projects since up to end May 2012 other than the Karachi-Hyderabad Pakistan Highway in January 2012, bear in mind that the Groupis confident of adding new projects to our order book before the year closes.

PROPERTY DIVISION EFFORTS To date, the Group has built up a portfolio of almost RM1.6 billion in grossdevelopment value (GDV). But it is of no use if these projects are not off theground. The development team must find ways to expedite the launching ofthese projects under our portfolio as planning and getting approval can onlytake so long. As I mentioned previously, we do not want story tellers in theGroup of why things cannot be done but rather we want pro-active teammembers to get things done.

So far, out of the 9 development projects under our stable, only Laman Vilain Mon’t Kiara has successfully been launched with an encouraging take-upat 30%. We are in the midst of rushing out the show unit to be ready by

September/ October to further assist in the sales. Other such projects as theMain Place Residence @ USJ21, Puri Tower in Puchong, Medini Square andPetrie Villa in Johor Bahru as well as the Jesselton View and One Jesseltonin Kota Kinabalu and a joint-venture development in Miri have yet to takeoff. The latest addition within the Group is another new propertydevelopment in Jalan Tallala, Kuala Lumpur. It will be 2 blocks of 36-storeyservice apartments. We believe that with the right product at the right priceat the right location, all these projects once implemented will contributesignificantly to the Group.

AWARD AND APPRECIATIONThe Group had a pleasant start to the year by winning the InternationalAchievement Award category at the Malaysian Construction IndustryExcellence Award (MCIEA) 2011 by CIDB in February this year. It was inrecognition of the successful completion of the 2,000 units housing schemein Brunei Darussalam. Well done to the Project Team!!

This was followed by another prestigious award at the BrandLaureate –Best Brand Awards 2011-2012 for Construction Sector in May. This showsthat the Group is doing something right in showcasing our Bina Puri Brand. The Bina Puri Brand has gained tremendous recognition over the last fewyears. Previously, only those involved in the construction industry wouldknow us, but recently, more people and industry players not within ourindustry have taken notice of us. This will naturally have a spillover onwhatever the Group embarks on, especially our property developmentproject as the Bina Puri brand name carries with it a certain goodwill.

For all these awards, my deepest appreciation goes to all staff members ofthe Group who have been working untiringly and whose continuous supportand commitment have led to this significant achievement. Thus, my heartiestcongratulations to all the winners of the Best Employees and Best SiteAward 2011 which has just been announced a few weeks ago. May all ofyou set the right example and become an inspiration for the others tocontinuously improve on their performance and together we shall achievegreater excellence in our overall business accomplishment.

I also wish to remind all staff that the company will always strive to improvethe welfare of its staff and this include the various recent revisions made tothe Group Policy with regards to staff allowances, medical and insurancebenefit, sexual harassment policy, training activities and many others. Allthese are additional cost to the company, of which we expect to receivewhat is expected of you when you first joined the Group, which is to workharder, smarter, speedier and with the right attitude.

ACTIVE KELAB SUKAN & SOSIAL Our Kelab Sukan & Sosial Bina Puri has always been the best platform forthe staff to interact among ourselves. Taking this opportunity, I would liketo congratulate the new committee members who were elected during therecent 17th Annual General Meeting of the club in March 2012. I believe thenew line-up will continue its tradition to serve the members and inorganizing many interesting activities within the Group.

BULLETIN BINA PURI JUNE 2012

Interestingly to note that, the new young blood in the committee has itsfollowers. Perhaps because they are young, energetic and full of ideas, asbeing observed, some of the main weekly activities have receivedoverwhelming response. For instance, weekly practice for the badmintonlovers. From only 15 participants previously, I have been informed that ithas increased to 30-35 participants in each of the practice sessions! Fromonly 2 badminton courts, the club now books at least 4 badminton courts. This is definitely a good start. Some of the information on these activitieshave been promoted via social media which has greater outreach thesedays. This is a good start.

Our members in East Malaysia are also very active, some of the adventuresactivities organized included water rafting. Kelab Sukan & Kebajikan SgLong has never been short of ideas, and recently they had a wonderful timeorganizing the “Quarry Race”. If KL has its “RAT RACE”, our club Sg Longhas their “QUARRY RACE”. Congratulations!

All these activities provide venues for interactions between the teammembers as we might not have enough opportunities to communicateamong ourselves during office-hours. Hence, I would like to urge all staff toplease do join the activities organized by the club. Also, the members mustshow their full support for those that have been nominated. It is very easyto be critical but remember, they are volunteering their time and effortoutside work for the social welfare of members of the Sports Club.

Committee members within the Sports Club must also stand united andshould not break ranks within themselves as previous committees have sethigh benchmarks for them to only improve on and not fall behind.

Finally, as we are approaching the middle of 2012, more challenges areexpected in the future. We hope, with the coming new line up in theGovernment of Malaysia, more projects will be announced and perhaps, theprivate sectors will be enjoying more initiatives and benefits from theGovernment plans.
