SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT This weekend October 4 and 5 our young people will begin their Faith Formation classes. They will also attend mass as a class at 5 p.m. on Saturday; 8:30 a.m. Sunday; 10 a.m. Sunday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. As it is our masses are very full! With an additional 650 children attending one of these masses space will surely be an issue. We need to reserve rows so that there’s enough space for the children to sit together. Please…be patient and especially kind to the children and our catechists over the next few weeks. We are very happy they are with us.

AVISO ESPECIAL Este fin de semana 4 y 5 de octubre nuestros jóvenes comenzarán sus clases de Formación de Fe. Ellos asistirán a la misa como una clase a las 5pm el sábado; 8:30am el Domingo; 10am el Domingo 11:30am el Domingo. Como se trata de nuestras misas que ya de por si están muy llenos! Con un adicional de 650 niños que asistan a una de estas misas seguramente habrá problemas de espacio. Tenemos que reservar filas para que haya suficiente espacio para que los niños se sienten juntos. Por favor, sean pacientes ... y especialmente amable con los niños y nuestros catequistas en las próximas semanas. Estamos muy contentos que están con nosotros.

Dear Friends,

This weekend we are beginning our Faith Formation program for the youth of our parish. We are blessed to have over 600 already registered! Many of them will attend the 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. English masses – please – welcome and encourage them. We will also hear a short announcement from some of our young adults preparing to meet Pope Francis in Poland this July. The second collection next weekend will assist in paying for their pilgrimage. 17 young adults will represent our parish in this World Youth Day in Poland. The total cost is $65,000 – your generosity in next week’s second collection will be appreciated. Finally next weekend is your commitment weekend for the Generations of Faith Campaign. Already, more than $400,000 has been raised by less than 100 families. As you know this campaign will assist the retired priests and youth of our diocese. It will also help us right here at home in St. Bart’s—we need to begin renovations on the exterior of the church and the bell tower. I will be speaking at all masses next weekend asking for your help in a pledge over the next 5 years. Working together I know we will make our goal and even more. P.S. – I look forward to next Saturday, October 10 at 11 a.m. where I will bless animals on the front steps of the main church. Queridos amigos, Este fin de semana vamos dar inicio a nuestro programa de Formación de Fe para los jóvenes de nuestra parroquia. Tenemos la bendicion de tener más de 600 ya inscritos registrado? Muchos de ellos asistirán a la misa en ingles de las 10am o 11:30am. por favor - demasle la bienvenidas y animarles. También vamos a escuchar un breve anuncio de algunos de nuestros jóvenes que se preparan para el encuentro con Francisco en Polonia este mes de julio. La segunda colecta el próximo fin de semana ayudará a pagar por su peregrinación. 17 adultos jóvenes representarán a nuestra parroquia en esta Jornada Mundial de la Juventud en Polonia. El costo total es de $ 65.000 - agradeceremos su generosidad en la segunda colecta de la próxima semana. Finalmente el próximo fin de semana es el fin de semana de su compromiso para la Campaña Generaciones de Fe. Ya, más de $400,000 ha sido prometido por menos de 100 familias. Como ustedes saben esta campaña ayudará a los sacerdotes jubilados y jóvenes de nuestra diócesis. También nos ayudará aquí en San Bartolomé-tenemos que empezar renovaciones en el exterior de la iglesia y el campanario. APARCAMIENTO: EL aparcamiento estará cerrado. Durante las últimas semanas varios coches han sido dañados con arañazos y golpes. El aparcamiento solo tiene espacio para 8 coches - la mayoría de los domingos hay 15 coches estacionados en el área pequeña. Además, es muy peligroso para los peatones que caminan por la acera mientras que los coches están saliendo y entrando. Por la seguridad de las personas y la de la propiedad ya no podemos permitir en el aparcamiento durante las misa del domingo.

PARKING LOT: The parking lot will be closed. Over the last few weeks several cars have been damaged with scratches and bumps. The lot only has space for 8 cars – most Sundays there are 15 cars squeezed in the small area. Also, it’s very dangerous to pedestrians walking on the sidewalk as cars are backing out and coming in. For the safety of people and the security of property we can no longer allow parking in the lot for Sunday mass.

The children and young adults of today are blessed with so many advantages their predecessors never thought possible. They have access to technology and social media, making the world smaller and more accessible. This new technology-driven era has opened up opportunities for education, amusement, and action. With all the benefits of these new technological and cultural advancements, come the side effects of distraction and alienation. Decades ago, Blessed Pope Paul VI wrote, “technological society has succeeded in multiplying occasions of pleasure, yet has found it very difficult to engender joy.” These and other factors produce barriers to their faith journey. We have witnessed lately more and more young Catholics cut or minimize ties to the church community. In response to these challenges, the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens funded the launch of the Youth Evangelization Program in 2012. The initiative is focused on restoring the connection in faith our local Catholic communities have with our young brothers and sisters - giving them a sanctuary for meaningful reflection to: Empower themselves to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today, draw them to live responsibly and participate in the life, mission and work of the Church, and foster their personal and spiritual growth Through a comprehensive youth ministry approach, the initiative funds on-site support to parishes through a youth minister and provides ongoing resources and professional development. The program began with seven pilot parishes, and has expanded to 26 parishes in two years. With an additional investment of $10 million over the next five years, we can look forward to successfully expanding to 150 parishes in Brooklyn and Queens by 2020.

FOMENTAR LA FORMACIÓN DE LAS FUTURAS GENERACIONES DE CATÓLICOS ¡Los niños y los jóvenes de hoy han sido bendecidos con tantas ventajas que sus predecesores nunca pensaron posibles! Tienen acceso a la tecnología y las redes sociales, que hacen al mundo más pequeño y más accesible. Esta nueva era impulsada por la tecnología ha abierto oportunidades para la educación, la recreación y la acción. Con todos los beneficios de estos nuevos avances tecnológicos y culturales, vienen los efectos secundarios de la distracción y la alienación. En respuesta a estos retos, y a petición de muchas comunidades parroquiales en Brooklyn y Queens, la Fundación Católica financió el lanzamiento de la Iniciativa para el Ministerio Juvenil Católico. La iniciativa unirá a nuestra juventud con la comunidad católica local, para que ellos también puedan apreciar la alegría de nuestra fe, y dándoles el poder para vivir como discípulos de Jesucristo en nuestro mundo de hoy, participando en la vida, la misión y el compromiso de la Iglesia. Por medio de un enfoque pastoral juvenil que ha sido probado con éxito en otras diócesis, esta iniciativa ofrece apoyo local a las parroquias con los recursos para cubrir el sueldo de un ministro para la pastoral juvenil en cada iglesia, y ofrece recursos continuos para su desarrollo profesional. Con una inversión adicional de $10 millones en los próximos cinco años, el programa se puede extender a todas las parroquias para el año 2020.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION Bishop Cabezas will be with us on Saturday, October 17th at 1:30 p.m. to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on 116 of our young people. Please keep them and their families in your prayers as they prepare for this special day. This is one of our larger classes in quite a number of years. If you are able, please plan to join us for the mass.

SACRAMENTO DE LA CONFIRMACIÓN El Obispo Cabezas estará con nosotros el Sábado, 17 de octubre a la 1:30 pm para conferir el sacramento de la Confirmación en 116 de nuestros jóvenes. Por favor, manténgales a ellos y a sus familias en sus oraciones mientras se preparan para este día tan especial. Esta es una de nuestras clases más grandes después de varios años. WORLD YOUTH DAY COLLECTION 17 young people from our parish will join the Holy Father Pope Francis in Poland this coming July. More than a million young people from around the world are expected to attend. It’s about $4000 for each person to attend – that’s a lot of money for a young adult. Next Sunday our second collection will be taken to help with the cost. Not all of us can go to Poland—as a parish, this is a great opportunity to support and encourage these Catholic young adults. Please be generous in this collection. Special envelopes are available at the entrance of the churches.

DÍA MUNDIAL DE LA JUVENTUD COLECCIÓN 17 jóvenes de nuestra parroquia se unirá al Santo Padre Francisco en Polonia próximo mes de julio. Se espera que más de un millón de jóvenes de todo el mundo para asistir. Se trata de $ 4000 para cada persona para asistir - eso es mucho dinero para un adulto joven. El próximo domingo se realizará la segunda colecta para ayudar con el costo. No todos podemos ir a Polonia-como parroquia, esta es una gran oportunidad para apoyar y alentar a estos adultos jóvenes católicos. Por favor, sean generosos en esta colecta.
