    IMPORTANT IMMIGRATION INFORMATION UPDATE FOR F-1 &J-1 degree-seeking students only

    WELCOMEThe entire staffs of the International Student Office (ISO) at theTempe campus and International Student Services (ISS) at the WestCampus would like to welcome new and continuing students as youbegin the Spring 2007 semester. Throughout the year, you willreceive emails from the ISO. Please take a moment to read allmessages we send you. It is of utmost importance to reviewdeadlines and plan ahead according to your individual circumstancesto avoid immigration/visa problems and ensure you can be successfulas a student at ASU. We highly recommend that you print a copy ofthe emails for future reference.

    ISO MATTERS

    1. If you need any immigration related information or advisement it ishighly recommended that you email [email protected] beforemaking an appointment. Some matters may be resolved via email.You will be directed to meet an advisor if necessary.

    2. Please remember to always check your ASU email account towatch for future immigration updates and programming

    announcements from the ISO.

    3. The processing time at the ISO/ISS for any document/formsignature request is 7-10 full working days. Other requests may takemore time so please plan accordingly.

    SEVIS COMPLIANCE Information for F-1 and J-1 students

    1. Must maintain full-time status at all times. AUDIT GRADES are notcounted and only 3 ONLINE COURSE CREDITS can be counted

    towards full-time enrollment.

    a. January 19 - final day to submit immigration approvedexception to full course of study documents to ISO/ISS (i.e.,PROOF of concurrent enrollment, completion of coursework,etc.)

    b. January 22 - date that SEVIS record will be terminated forstudents not full time as of January 21 - published late registration &drop/add deadline. No exceptions.

    2. ALL NEW & TRANSFER students must report to the ISO/ISS forSEVIS initial registration processing. DEADLINE to report to theISO/ISS for SEVIS registration is January 19th2007. Failure to reportin a timely manner will result in the loss of your F-1 status and yourSEVIS record will be TERMINATED.

    3. Check the expiration date listed on your I-20/DS-2019. You mustfile a request for an extension at the ISO/ISS before your immigrationdocument expires. Failure to do so will cause loss of F-1 status andyour SEVIS record will be TERMINATED.

    4. J-1 students with J-2 dependents must provide ISO proof of validinsurance of the dependents. Failure to do so will cause you to loseyour J-1 status and your SEVIS record will be TERMINATED.

    5. OPT students who did not complete as reported on the completionof coursework form or any other reason must report to the ISO/ISSprior to the completion date for appropriate advisement. Failure to doso will cause loss of F-1 status and consequently, loss of the OPTbenefit.

    6. Students who have made any change to their academic programs,(i.e. switched degree options, major change) must report to theISO/ISS for immigration advisement as soon as possible. The impactof the change may cause you to lose your F-1 status and your SEVISrecord will be TERMINATED. .

    7. Anytime you move, update address information with ASUInteractive Online Services within 10 days. Use your home inTempe/Phoenix area as your LOCAL address and your home country

    residence as PERMANENT address. Do not list PO boxes for eitheraddress. Failure to do so will cause loss of student status and yourSEVIS record will be TERMINATED. .

    TERMINATED SEVIS RECORDS are subject to US Immigration andCustoms Enforcement review which could result to detainment anddeportation.
