Newsletter C O N N E C T S H A R E P L A Y 1 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT - Doug Perrett March, 2019 As announced earlier in the week, I am excited to inform members that we have appointed our new General Manager, Steve Webster. Steve comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and will commence his role at the start of April. I trust members will welcome him and ensure his time at Tocumwal is a pleasant one. I would also like to take this opportunity to advise that we have appointed Bruce McCallum, Spencer Rutherford and Gerry Lawson to the Board, until the next Annual General Meeting. The new Directors will bring a great deal of experience and knowledge to our Board. On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to inform members that Michael Keen has resigned from his position as Director. Mick has been a Director for 3.5 years, as well as being involved on the Golf Committee, Marketing Committee and many other working groups, volunteering and the important role of Golf Captain. Mick has been an active member and I wish to thank him for his endless dedication to our Club during this time. At present the Board is investigating the option to install solar panels at the Club, as a way to reduce the ongoing electricity costs, while ensuring the best deal is obtained. We will keep members informed of the progress. This season has been an unusually hot one, and the Course Superintendent and the course staff have been working very hard at maintaining the course in such an excellent condition. This has been no easy feat with one of the pumps requiring replacement, and managing our current low water situation, which we are working through. Well done again to the Course Superintendent for his efforts.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT- Doug Perrett

March, 2019

As announced earlier in the week, I am excited to inform members that we have appointed our new General Manager, Steve Webster.Steve comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and will commence his role at the start of April.I trust members will welcome him and ensure his time at Tocumwal is a pleasant one.

Mick has been a Director for 3.5 years, as well as being involved on the Golf Committee, Marketing Committee and many other working groups, volunteering and the important role of Golf Captain.Mick has been an active member and I wish to thank him for his endless dedication to our Club during this time.

What a fantastic Pennant Season it has been.

Friday Pennant – Well done to the Division 1 and 2 pennant teams for a great effort over the season. Both teams reached the preliminary finals reflecting the high standard of bowling shown throughout the season.

Saturday Pennant – Our number 4 team played well but bowed out in the first round of finals. However, our other Division 4 team won their grand final to take the pennant and receive their winner’s medals. This achievement means that the team will be promoted to Division 3 next season.

Division 3 played an outstanding final only to lose by 3 shots against Jerilderie’s #1 team.

The Division 2 team qualified for promotion to Division 1 next year going down to Cobram by a mere 5 shots.

Congratulations to the coach, selectors and all the players who represented the Club and delivered our major goals for the year whilst we introduced quite a few new bowlers.

The Allan Seamer -We only have a few spots available for teams on 16 March. This event is shaping up to be a memorable event. If you would like to enter please let Bob Bowman, our Tournament Director, know ASAP even if you might be a single entry or available as an emergency.

Tattersalls Visit - On 15 April about 30 bowlers will be visiting us from the Tattersalls Club in Melbourne. Over recent years we have had very enjoyable competitions bowling against them. Please add your name to the entry sheet on our notice board if you would like to play on this day.

Men’s Triples Championship – John Wilson, Gary Beer and Harry Malloy played excellent bowls to win the triples, it is good to see these guys playing good bowls and knocking off this title. Keep celebrating fellas.

Bowls Strategic Plan – Progress is being made and your Bowls Committee will soon be sharing with you what we expect to deliver and what actions may have to wait until another time.

Bowls Vice-Captain – We are still looking for someone to nominate for this important role. Please consider who you could nominate. It is vital for our club to have this role filled.

Our Division 4 Winners!Left to Right: Ken Gaffney, Jill Whiteside, Allan Whiteside, Chris O’Connell, Lynsey Reid, Ben Gierveld, Steve Conrick, Roger Carter, Bob Adams

Tony Baldwin Memorial TrophyThe qualifying round of the Tony Baldwin Memorial Trophy is due to be played on Sunday 10th March. The top 8 pairs qualify for matchplay knockout, with the final being played on Sunday 14th April. Yamaha Veterans TournamentThe Yamaha Veterans Tournament is due to be played from Monday 11th March to Friday 15th March. It has been well supported and the field is full! “ The trouble with a new set of expensive matched golf clubs is that they don’t seem to know any moreabout the game than the old ones did”

Pace of Play SurveyAt nearly every Golf Committee meeting the subject of “slow play” comes up for discussion. It may be because a member has had a frustratingly slow round, or we receive correspondence from other golf authorities. Whatever the reason, “slow play” is a nuisance to many people. The new rules have introduced a range of things which will hopefully reduce the amount of time it takes to play a round of golf. In concert, with these changes, the Committee would like to establish a Tocumwal Golf & Bowls Club Data Base, that establishes the actual time we take to play an ordinary round of golf. There are a huge range of factors that impact on the time it takes to play a round of golf and this will show in the information that is collected. The Committee is seeking, on a voluntary basis, information from golfers on the following terms. 1. The time you hit off from your 1st tee.2. The time you hit off from your 10th tee.3. The time you putt out on your 18th tee.Your group only need to record the information on one scorecard and the information can be entered in the space above the signature boxes. The information will be collected over a 3-month period and collated to give a broad overview of how we travel. The exercise may show that we as a group play our golf in a generally acceptable period of time and need to do nothing. It may also identify ways that we can improve our playing time. We look forward to your involvement.

Up Coming events:SWAGGERS (for 55yrs+):Just a reminder that SWAGGERS recommences at the end of this month. Gayle has commenced collecting the membership money. For anyone that is not familiar with SWAGGERS it is a fun social game played once a month at a different course each month (membership is $10, and when you play it is $15 (I believe it went up this year, it was $10) this pays for a light lunch, the golf game is free). What a great way to get to play at other courses not too far from home and have a fun day out.

Winter Pennant:Winter Pennant will commence towards the end of April. I would like to encourage the Toc ladies particularly some of the newer members to put their names down for the team. The list is on the wall down in the ladies locker room. Pennant is a great experience and I’m a high handicapper but I just love the challenge of matchplay.

Silver Spoon and the Singles Knockout commence in March, check the Syllabus for the dates.

Happy golfing Ladies.
