YASS INTERACT “TAKES OVER” YASS ROTARY

Yass Rotary’s weekly meeting on the 18th of November was a little different than usual…. it featured

members of the newly formed Yass Interact club “taking over” and running a highly enjoyable night.

In addition to being great fun, the evening bought the Yass Rotary family closer together, and provided a

relaxed atmosphere for Rotarians and Interactors to learn more about each other's clubs.Upon arriving,

Rotarians were issued with new name tags that described one of their ‘secrets’. There was much amusement

at Rotarians wearing nametags that described secrets that included ‘’I always run with scissors’’, “ I secretly

dance to ABBA”, “I can break dance” and “I really am a hip-hop artist”!!

President Kirsty Holmes then handed over her Presidential Chain to President for the night, Interactor and

Norwegian Exchange Student Amalie Ringdal Birkhol who delivered the Four Way Test in both Norwegian

and English.

Amalie was quick to issue her first presidential decree that all Rotarians had to make animal noises prior to

speaking which proved to be spectacularly silly!

Her Sergeant at Arms, Interact President Brooke Garland was ruthless in her fining of Rotarians for poor

animal noises, cheeky comments and general misbehaviour throughout the evening, with all money being

raised during the night going to Interact's support of Shelter Box.

Throughout the night Rotarians were challenged to a number of quizzes and activities including a contest

that saw each table having to sing the Norwegian national anthem (in Norwegian!), and participate in a trivia

competition ‘Are you smarter than an Interactor?’ This proved to be a lot of fun with chocolates being

awarded to the winning table. Amalie concluded the evening by presenting a snapshot of her time in

Australia so far, ending with a quick fire quiz on Norway that again saw Rotarians have to reach in their

pockets!

The Yass Rotarians were extremely good sports and by all accounts, enjoyed the night very much. For their

part, the Interactors were warmly welcomed and made to feel a real part of the Yass Rotary family.

A highly successful evening that was enjoyed by everyone - a big thank you to President Kirsty for allowing

the mayhem to occur!!
