I cannot think of a better way to serve your NAWIC Sisters than serving on the board. Happy April Members!

We kicked off the month with Easter and April Fool’s Day. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, but we

are not done yet, as during April we also celebrate Earth Day and Jazz Appreciation Month.

In March, our Annual Recognition Dinner was a success! We all enjoyed the opportunity to thank our

corporate sponsors that have generously contributed to our chapter throughout the year. We also had fun

recognizing and awarding the various scholarships to the much deserving students who are pursuing a career

in the construction industry. Big shout out and thank you to Committee Chair Elena Nuno for a fantastic job

being Master of Ceremonies, and Pauline McIntosh, CCA, CIT and Carolyn Mooradian, CCA, CIT of the

committee. Ah, but the fun doesn’t stop there. There are more fun times ahead with our Spring Luncheon on

April 28th. Jamie Ohanesian, Pauline McIntosh CCA, CIT, Donna Measell, Carolyn Mooradian, CCA, CIT

and Deanna Spencer are creating a fun-filled event, so invite your family, friends, coworkers, bosses etc.

Deanna and I are looking forward to attending the 2018 PNW Forum in beautiful Salem, Oregon, Friday, April

20 through Saturday, April 21. Attending Forum is valuable to all NAWIC Sisters because of the professional

development, networking, fun and food. Presentations include a Silica safety update, Procure Project

Management software demo, Blue Beam demon and Life as a Woman Welder. Moreover, our keynote

speaker is Sonia Miller, BBA, MSW, who will talk about going from invisible to invincible, finding the blind

spots that prevent us from achieving success as women. There is still time to attend (http://

www.nawicpnw.org/events/2018/4/19/pnw-forum-2018). Deanna and I would love to share this experience

with you.

One thing I love about this organization is the fact that anyone one can learn while serving. The meaning of

volunteering to me, is the altruistic activity towards the betterment of our NAWIC sisters lives while renewing

and developing certain skills to enhance my personal development. So, I ask you, what does volunteering

mean to you? When thinking about the answer for yourself also consider the personal development to

enhance your resume. Moreover, think about the skills you can bring to your NAWIC sisters by volunteering/

serving this chapter. Thus, think about your role and consider serving on the board for 2018-2019 year. I

cannot think of a better way to serve your NAWIC Sisters than serving on the board. It’s a great opportunity

to learn more about how boards operate and learn rules of engagement, i.e. Roberts Rules. Additionally,

travel to represent our chapter at both the Regional and National levels and so much more. We will be

holding the nominations during the May and June meetings, with elections held at

the June meeting.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our Spring Luncheon!

Wow just when you think Spring is here we get dumped on – rain in the valley and lots of snow in the mountains. Can’t complain

though – we definitely need it.

This month has found some of our members praying for the best. I’m referring to Elena’s dog Lacey, who went through knee surgery. She has had her

stitches out and hope by now she is up and moving ok.

Carolyn got a trip to KT-Lee Ranch Alpacas in North Fork, along with several other Zoo Docents. She said it was amazing and of course, they had a little retail store where you could purchase alpaca items. She chose a pair of Alpaca socks and says they are soooo

warm!

Michelle seemed to be in high spirits at the Rock ‘N Horse Salon in Tulare. Not sure just

what she was celebrating… you should ask her.

Deanna and Carolyn are adding to their blown class collections. They each crafted an Easter Egg at Kliszewski’s Glass Works. That is so much fun and each item turns out

differently.

Teri attended the Legal Shield training course in Oklahoma City. Along with her was Tami Taylor, also a NAWIC member from the Alaska Chapter and a NAWIC Past National

President. Looks like they were having a good time.

Doug and Carolyn were attendees at the annual Zoobilation, which is a party for Fresno Zoo Members and Adopt-an-Animal Sponsors. Guess it pays to be a Docent, as you get

to do and see lots of zoo things!

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to McCaffrey Homes and De Young Properties for being named as winners in the Fresno Bee’s 2018 People’s Choice Awards. In addition, McCaffrey Homes received awards from Central Valley Luxury Magazine, including the Diamond Award. It is good to see our Corporate Sponsors and members receiving the

recognition they receive.

Michelle attended the California Federation of Republican Women’s Central Division’s Spring Luncheon at Black Oak Casino Resort in Tuolumne. Hope she didn’t gamble and

lose – winning is fun, though!

Deanna and Carolyn were privileged to get tickets to Fresno Philharmonic’s The Virtuoso

Orchestra, showcasing Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio. They say it was a wonderful concert.

Think that is about it for March. If you have some special Easter plans with family and friends, please send the information my way. Would love to include all of our member

activities. And of course, pictures are always welcome.

Have a great Spring!

Industry Insights & Briefs

The Magic Bank Account

Legend has it, this article was found in the billfold of the late Alabama Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, after he died in 1982. Imagine that you had won the following “PRIZE” in a contest: Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400 in you private account for your use.

However, this prize has rules and the set of rules are: 1. Everything that you didn’t spend during each day would be taken away from you. 2. You may not simply transfer money into some other account. 3. You may only spend it. 4. Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400 for that day. 5. The bank can end the game without warning; at any time, it can say “Game Over!” It can close the account and you will not receive a new one.

What would you personally do? You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love and care for. Even for people you don’t know, because you couldn’t possibly spend it all on yourself, right? You would try to spend every penny, and use it all, because you knew it would be replenished in the morning, right?

ACTUALLY, this GAME is REAL…Shocked??? Yes! Each of us is already a winner of this “PRIZE.” We just can’t seem to see it. The PRIZE is “TIME.” 1. Each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life. 2. And when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is not credited to us. 3. What we haven’t used up that day is forever lost. 4. Yesterday is forever gone. 5. Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time WITHOUT WARNING.

SO, what will you do with your 86,400 seconds? Those seconds are worth so much more than the same amount of dollars. Think about it and remember to enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think. So, take care of yourself, be happy, love deeply and enjoy life!

Here’s wishing you a wonder and beautiful day. Start spending… Don’t complain about growing older, some people don’t get the privilege!
