O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University), Sonipat (Haryana) has established itself as one of India’s most promising humanities and liberal arts universities. In the QS BRICS University Rankings 2019, JGU is ranked among the Top 3 percent and among the Top 450 in the QS Asia league table. The university is a multi-disciplinary Global University with ten schools; Jindal Global Law School (JGLS); Jindal Global Business School (JGBS); Jindal School of International Aairs (JSIA); Jindal School of Government and Public Policy (JSGP); Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities (JSLH); Jindal School of Journalism and Communication (JSJC); Jindal School of Arts and Architecture (JSAA); Jindal School of Banking and Finance (JSBF); Jindal school of Environment and Sustainability (JSES) and Jindal School of Psychology and Counselling (JSPC).

JGU has witnessed remarkable developments relating to pedagogy, research and institution building. The University has forged a number of international collaborations and has played a pivotal role in organising seminars, lectures and conferences on important issues related to international aairs, law, business, government and public policy. JSIA oers unique postgraduate programme in the form of a Masters in Diplomacy, Law & Business (M.A. DLB) that recognises the symbiotic relationship between international relations, international law and international business. The students who are graduating from this School are educated on the basis of an innovative teaching pedagogy that fosters interdisciplinary learning – a hallmark of JGU. The students of JSIA have benefited immensely by the exposure that they have received through internships and career opportunities in National-International organizations, Corporate Houses, Media and Publishing houses, NGOs, Think tanks, Consultancies, Ministries of the Government of India and State Governments, Research Institutions etc.

The eight batches of 270 students from JSIA that graduated since 2013 have taken up positions in a range of corporate, non- governmental and inter-governmental organizations as well as government bodies and diplomatic missions. Along with B.A. (Hons) in Global Aairs, we are also proud of JSIA's unique B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science, launched in 2020, preparing young minds to take up high profile careers in diverse sectors of Indian and world aairs. JGU empowers its students to pursue fulfilling careers across dierent facets of the development sector as well as Corporate World. This ‘Career After JSIA’ brochure provides you with valuable insights into choices that exist for our graduates. The process of making informed decisions relating to careers in International Aairs is the first step in the direction of being a responsible citizen.

Established in 2011, JSIA has created viable career opportunities for its graduating students in a diverse range of sectors. JSIA fills the void in the Study of International Aairs in India which had been neglected precisely because universities were unable to show a clear career path in world politics and economics. The only options available to those keenly interested in international relations and related disciplines used to be the Indian civil services or academia. JSIA has dramatically transformed this landscape by opening up amazing jobs and internships for its students in a variety of prestigious organisations - governmental and non-governmental, public and private, within India and abroad. Today, I can say with satisfaction that JSIA's contribution to international studies is not just limited to the prolific scholarly publications and opinionshaping viewpoints of its faculty members, but it also extends to giving students a vision and a support system to find their suitable careers.

Our dedicated career support division and the references of our extraordinarily well connected faculty members have facilitated opportunities for students in areas such as human rights, humanitarian relief, peace and conflict resolution, risk analysis, economic development, diplomatic service etc. Our illustrious alumni increase the strength of our industry relations manifold. As JSIA grows as an institution year-on-year, so does our alumni base and this in turn produces life-transforming career opportunities for new students stepping into our portals.

This brochure captures the key highlights of how our graduating students and alumni have benefited from the world class education and career support system at JSIA. It should leave no one in doubt that taking up higher education at a top institution like JSIA is well worth a student's time, energy and money.

I and my entire faculty colleagues remain committed to taking student careers seriously as a core responsibility of our institution. I would like to assure every potential student and her/his parents that their future is secure by joining this temple of learning.

VOICES OF JSIA ALUMNI

Visually, through a brochure, JGU does appear to be a colourful utopia. Its humongous campus space, book-studded library, massive reading rooms, beaming tech-assisted classrooms, state of the art miscellaneous facilities, and the promise of an exceptional pedagogical technique does tend to overwhelm you, especially if you belong from a small town, like I do. Did it overwhelm me? Of course it did, and also filled me with due anticipation for moving into an academic world, which honestly in itself was half of the size of my own town, and boasted of knowledge-sharing at par with any benchmark Western university around the world.

I had the privilege of attending the prestigious Jindal School of International Aairs (JSIA) for my M.A. in Diplomacy, Law and Business for the batch of 2018-20. As you take admission into this behemoth, JGU promises you nothing but excellence gesture it delivers every time you call upon its promise of academic superiority. JSIA’s professors and experts do not possess the characters of a stoic academician as we once stereotyped and feared. In fact, in them, you will see the same extreme enthusiasm for dissipating knowledge as you will see in their students eager to gain knowledge. Classroom teaching in JSIA is not designed to regurgitate, but to receive, discuss, analyse, and achieve objectives. The professors activate the critical thinking of our minds, when they pitch us to the world of peacebuilders, or economic experts, and simulate our experiences into professional/academic roles that will take up in future. JSIA leaves no stones unturned in letting students receive knowledge from sources not particularly aliated to JGU, but extremely important. In my two years, I have been in the vicinity of retired/practising ambassadors, ex-ministers of foreign countries, and the high and mighty Indian policy-makers of Lutyens Delhi, thanks to the logistics provided by JSIA – JGU in achieving those goals.

Furthermore, JSIA – JGU has a vast list of administrative and academic collaboration with a multitude of foreign universities which makes it easier for students to be part of multifarious student exchanges, special summer schools, and semester abroad, without the administrative hurdle. I also had the opportunity to attend one such special summer school where I received a certificate in “Identity based conflict resolution” from Bar-Ilan University – Israel after month-long in-class teaching funded by the Israeli Government itself. Adding into that as a caveat, JSIA’s Centre for Israel Studies allowed me to extend my stay in Israel, and indulge in academic research on holocaust memory, state-building, and collective trauma upon which the state of Israel is founded upon. Other than that, I was also a part of the Centre of Border Studies and worked on a project on assessing and tabulating civilian casualties around the LoC between India and Pakistan. These experiences would in future help me in choosing my specialisation of graduation.

JSIA – JGU oer in terms of career placement? In JSIA, at least for the M.A., course demands for two specialising internships, and a long-term capstone as an option of degree fulfilment. To assist in that JSIA – JGU has its specialised Oce of Career Services to spoil us with choices on organisations, which range from Corporates to NGOs, to dedicated Policy Institutes. The experience imbibed from the internships, and the support of OCS in the upcoming years will prove beneficial to prove my professional mettle, as well as choosing my future objectives. I will also thank them for roping me with Janes Defense India for a full-time opportunity as a Research Analyst (Europe and Baltic States), which was a great gesture of support.

In the end, for those who are currently pursuing their degrees in JSIA, and also to those who will do that in future, I do welcome you to an adventurous path, where the inculcation of quality education is the milestone, and where no academic idea is stupid, or blasphemous. The journey here will surely increase your outlook to the world you’ll face in real time, you just have to engage your professors and peers in critical dissipation of knowledge, open yourself to academic theories, think as if your life depends on it, and inject out fun from day to day activities inside the campus.

Thank You!

Jindal School of International Aairs (JSIA) has provided me with opportunities that have placed me on a global platform. My memories at JSIA have been exciting, where I made a diverse group of friends from India and beyond. From internships in Kabul, Afghanistan to field research in Bhutan, everything has been possible due to support from the faculty and the Oce of Career Services (OCS). The faculty and the OCS have always been easily approachable and have continuously mentored the students. The OCS and faculty assisted me in my placements, and I was able to get selected by a corporate firm as well as the Indian Air Force’s Think-Tank, where I chose to join the latter. My ties with my university will remain strong and enduring.

Thank You!

ROHAN KHATTAR SINGH

M.A. Diplomacy, Law & Business (2018-2020)

Research Assistant,The International Scholar’s South Asia Programme

I’m glad I could honour the trust, faith and love you all showered on me by securing a Gold Medal in MA DLB and proving worthy of the scholarship that you provided me with. I’m humbled to inform you that I’ve been selected as a consultant for the Multilateral Economic Relations Division in the Ministry of External Aairs, Gov. of India, New Delhi.

I am grateful to Ms. Hemlata Sharma and Ms. Vaishali from OCS for their support. I was working as a research, quality & policy analyst at Janes Defence UK and I consider this new opportunity to serve my motherland Bharath as a sui generis opportunity. My ambition to work at the MEA is solely made possible because of the direction in which JSIA led me in. From day 1, I was awestruck at JSIA because I can say that this place is truly inching towards becoming the Bhoo-Swarga of education.

My deepest gratitude to Savitri Jindal Ji who oered a generous scholarship for my education. This, coupled with the inspiration I drew from our VC Dr. Raj Kumar who stood by me at all my challenges, truly is a testament that our VC is a god sent for aspiring students like me. I came into JSIA because of our Dean. Watching him speak his mind and heart backed with facts gave me courage to hold positions that gave me an edge over my competitors.

My career took all the right turns due to the guidance that I’ve received by the venerated Ambassador Dr. Mohan Kumar. I shadowed him like Ekalvya did Dronacharya in the beginning as I was awestruck by his personality, humility and knowledge; and he accepted me into his learning fold like Arjuna was by Dronacharya.

My interactions with former Syrian foreign minister Ambassador Dr. Abdul Fattah Ammourah is incomparable to any of my previous learning experiences, because he shaped me into a gentleman through his wide experience and knowledge from his vast years of service to his nation of Syria. He just gives and gives and gives with all his heart and I cannot thank him enough. Learning from a person such as him who has interacted as an ocial with Henry Kissinger to Nixon to Vajpayee to Manmohan Singh was a blessing for me.

Lalit sir imparted discipline, writing skills, mannerisms and politeness into my daily life. He is a perfectionist in his approach to anything and he helped me so much in all my academic and administrative requests. He always found a way to get things done despite any ambiguity; and Swarnima ma’am believed in my ability to bring something good to the university and was benevolent when I placed a request for scholarship. With a big smile on her face, she always facilitated any of my requests genuinely.

Thank You!

My time at JSIA was very engaging and enriching. The faculty at JSIA is excellent, engaging students in debate and discussions, and urging us to go beyond simple, bookish learning. The coursework is designed to push us to think beyond the obvious, and the learning atmosphere at JSIA encourages students to ask questions and put forth their opinions. The faculty is easily accessible to students, and always willing to assist them with any diculties. Dedicated courses on Research Methodology, along with other writing assignments helped me to develop my research, analysis, and academic writing skills. Faculty members have always taken time out to provide individual feedback to students on our assignments and tests, thus helping us to recognise our gaps in learning and improve our skills.

JSIA also gave me an opportunity to intern at think tanks like United Service Institution of India (USI), and Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), along with a humanitarian organisation like Humanitarian Aid International (HAI). The internships at USI and CLAWS allowed me to interact with experts in areas like National Security, West Asian studies, Chinese studies, Defence Technology, to name a few. These internships also helped me to cement my research, analysis and writing skills beyond the classroom and provided me with a platform to publish my work. Interning with HAI helped me understand how grassroots organisations work in the field and gave me a chance to explore refugee issues within a local and global context, complementing my learning in the classroom. My academic learning, along with my internship experiences have allowed me to push myself further and perform well in my current role as an Intelligence Analyst at Wipro Limited.

JSIA provides several opportunities for greater exposure, including semester abroad and summer programmes. I got the chance to attend a 4-week summer programme on ‘Identity-Based Conflict Resolution’ at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. My experiences at the Bar-Ilan University and in Israel will stay with me forever.

Thank You!

Jindal has played a pivotal role in my growth as a student and as a person. From having the best academic resources at my disposal to having a really safe environment to grow in, Jindal provided me all. Coming to Jindal for a master’s in diplomacy, law, and business I think has been one of the wiser decisions I have taken in my life. Jindal made my switch from Engineering to International relations smooth as I had all the support I could ask for in the form of the very accomplished teachers and cooperative administration at Jindal. Apart from academics during my time at Jindal I also had the opportunity to take part in an array of extra and co-curricular activities. I had the chance to continue my passion in dance and basketball and explore new avenues by being a research assistant at the Centre for New Economics Studies. Further in the troubling times of covid-19 it has been really comforting to see the OCS and the Jindal administration pay special attention to the students’ futures. This attention is demonstrated by the proactive approach taken by the OCS in finding us all the available opportunities out there and by the announcement of the GRIP and the TRIP scholarships by the administration. I personally benefitted from the said eorts which helped me get placed as a global incident analyst at Microsoft, Hyderabad through Pinkerton corporate risk management. I am indebted to Jindal for all the things I have learnt, these things have helped me be an active learner and participant in life.

Thank You!
