Managing Borderline Personality Disorder in Primary Care Prof Gordon Parker AO Scientia Professor of Psychiatry, University of New South Wales Gordon will overview the key features of borderline personality disorder and explain how it is best differentiated from the bipolar disorders. Several clinical vignettes will be provided to illustrate best practice management principles followed by candid advice on how more effectively to deal with tricky and sensitive scenarios that GPs often find themselves in when dealing with this condition. Anxiety in Children – What GPs Need to Know Prof Jennie Hudson Director, Centre for Emotional Health, Macquarie University If we want to raise healthy adults, then we need to focus on raising emotionally healthy children. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders and emerge the earliest. This presentation explores the development of anxiety, management options and how GPs can more effectively detect, assess, manage and where necessary refer children with these increasingly common disorders. Management of Metabolic Dysregulation in Patients on Antipsychotics Dr Matthew Warden Director AIS at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne Psychotropic weight gain and metabolic syndrome significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality of those taking antipsychotics, impacting both mental health and patients’ willingness to adhere to treatment. Matthew will describe practical strategies for GPs to manage metabolic problems associated with psychotropics.
